Sandbox fans what are you playing now?

I'm an oldschool gamer. I started with Ultima Online and continue my sandbox craze with a sub to Eve and a off and on relationship with Ryzom.

What I'm wondering is what do you sandbox guys play?

Have you kept to the old ways of UO and SWG Emu? Moved onto Eve,Ryzom or Wurm? Are you attempting to whether the storm of Darkfalls infancy? Have you started Fallen Earth? Or are you waiting for games like Mortal Online,Earthrise or maybe even core indy titles like Link realms?

I find it interesting to know what my fellow sandbox fanatics are playing these days as we have less and less quality games to play.

I myself have partially jumped ship a bit to themepark games but my heart and soul will always be with sandbox games.

So what's the deal? what are you playing, if not playing what are you looking forward to?

Playing: WoW, EvE

Interested in: TOR, ER, GW2, WoD, Dust514

If you don't mind a mix of themepark and sandbox, keep an eye out for FF14. The character progression system resembles Ultima Online more than anything, so I guess that's a plus? You can get to the max level without fighting once and just by using gathering and crafting classes for example.

    EVE,

I also get my theme park kicks in with CO now (used to be CoX) and I am looking forward to Star Wars: TOR.  Eve is the closet thing to UO I have found but better IMO since I really am not that fond of the fantasy genre.  Fallen Earth looks promising but not a game I am currently interested in.

The one I am truly waiting for is APB, regardless of MMO type.

Not at all actually. Some of my best times in a mmo were during my Anarchy Online and AC1 days both games are considered Hybrid and very good at that time. Thanks for the FFIX info I will keep an eye on it.

I have been playing fallen earth, i would say it isnt a total sandbox though more of a hybrid. Also been thinking of going back to ryzom or finally trying to understand EVE. Future games that look good i guess are mortal online, swtor, Earthrise, ff14.

    Darkfall.

Or I would if my computer was working properly.

no levels, all proffesions and skills for one char, I haven't seen anything like it, though the animations are bad but less important

Sounds nice as I'm a huge themepark/sandbox hybrid advocate.  I don't think either is as good without the other.  I'll be investigating this game now.  :)

As for the original question....nothing.  Well, at least no mmos.  Mostly, I play civ 4 and poker nowadays.

I have the GTA games and Saints Row 1 and 2 for my Xbox360.  Sometimes when I feel like running around an imaginary world I'll play one of those.  I also have GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas for PC, and the graphical upgrade you get playing on PC is awesome....it really adds to the game.

     Playing Darkfall now.

Im waiting for Fallen Earth to settle as well.  Then i hopefully have two nice different sandbox MMOs to play : )

Age of Conan..... and waiting for The Secret World... hopefully that will be even more sandbox. AoC is not really sandbox, but the only game I like right now!

FE has a sandbox sort of feel to it, but really, I wouldn't call it a sandbox at all.  It's more like just a skill-based themepark.  I didn't feel like I could just play a crafter, or a scavenger, and even if you could, crafter/scavengers can master all crafting skills.  IMHO, it really takes away from how open it feels, when there's really only one flavor of crafter.

And FFIV?  Really?  I haven't looked into it, but I'd have thought a game like that would be as themepark as they come.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

Me too, me too. It still is more a themepark than sandbox though, except that the character progression system resembles sandbox (think UO with slight differences).

I think a sub to Mortal Online and TOR simulataneously will probably be at the end of 2010ish. But for now I really want to try Aion as it looks interesting and possibly the best thing for me on the market right now. WoW is just not for me, and AoC... well I won't get that started.

    Darkfall.

No matter how trashed it is on these forums the amount of sandbox features that came out with the expansions - especially the October one- is unmatched really, besides EVE. But its catching up to it and are basically very different games.

    WURM Online,

the controlls might be a bit hard, and the learning curve a bit steep, but there is no finer sandbox IMO. you can do anything and everything you can think of in that game, from digging a tunnel though a mountain to constructing watchtowers and large houses. your skills increase as you preform various tasks and you have to pretty much build ever piece of ever item you make. its an awsome game and would recommend anyone who is looking for a good sandbox to try it out.

the only thing wurm lacks i think is more diversions other then work... after 6 months i felt like i was going to work instead of having fun on a game, but after a break it has regained the edge and sparkle i came to miss.

Not subbed to anything right now. Will re-sub to EvE at some point. Have a long ongoing love/hate relationship with EvE. Easily the best sandbox game out there in my opinion, but get tired of being a ship. Need to run around green hills, hitting things with a stick or blade once in a while. Usually when I realize I've only been logging on to kick off a skill for a month or two, I know its time to cancel for a while.

Holding out for a sandbox with quality and feature rich client that LoTRO provides.

Playing nothing now. I don't think I'll be playing any Mmo's within the next year or 2 , nothing peeks my interest. I have been considering getting a Ps3 ,Resident Evil and Street Fighter are a lot of fun but other then that, I'm dead in the water. Hopefully in the near future mmo's will utilize the hardeware thats out there and stop making games for Dells built back in 2000.

    Waiting on Guild Wars 2

I support both themepark and sandbox MMOs.

I'm playing the game of real life, internet, and debating on forums. hehehe

Seriously though I'm playing Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Xbox360 games like Viking: Battle for Asgrad while waiting.

I'm waiting for a time when I can feel more free in pursuing exploration both in group and solo. When min/maxers aren't making me feel oppressed in that manner.

    I want exploration king again.

Ask not, "How quickly can you reach this objective?/Do you know the area?"

    but instead ask,

"Do you feel like exploring this area?"/"When do you feel like exploring this area?"

Oblivion, Morrowind, Fable 2, Neverwinter Nights 2 toolset, Guild Wars, and WoW occasionally. I play most of my sandbox games on my Xbox 360 and I haven't played a sandbox MMO I've liked since Star Wars Galaxies.

The truth is I'm not really interested in sandbox MMOs anymore. Games like Darkfall, Mortal Online, and Shadowbane(previously) are too hardcore PvP oriented for me to enjoy long-term. I'd much rather play a sandbox game that's more of a cross between a virtual world like Second Life and casual pve, crafting, city-building, and a friendly, roleplay-oriented community like SWG had.

Not subbed to any MMO right now, nothing on the horizon for my sandbox taste in the MMORPG genre for me. Though I love many of hte feature's EVE has but for me it aint a sandbox, but a game that has many sandbox type of feature's. I loved SWG but also with that game it had many sandbox aspects but still was not really a sandbox.

If I had a PS3 I would play LittleBigPlanet, that's to me a sandbox game.

Overall get my sandbox fix more from games that offer things that fit well in a sandbox scene, but have not seen a sandbox in the way I feel sandbox games could be, other then games offering sandbox like feature's, as a example I love the freedom in games like GTA4/Fallout3/SaintRow2 and the like.

A sandbox game to me is where you create allot more then only a character and not limited towards a almost 80% combat game. And like I said there are some games I consider to have feature's that fit well in the sandbox catergory, but still they arn't to me, which is my personal view on how I see it which is does not have to be a fact for everyone but pure my own opinion.
