Champions Online: IGN Create-a-Character Contest

MikeBMikeB Community ManagerAdministrator RarePosts: 6,555

A new Character Creator contest is being offered by IGN, with an extremely sweet grand prize. Players will create and submit characters for the contest, and the most awesome looking characters, selected by the folks at IGN, will be featured on the contest website for users to vote on. The winning character design will be featured within Champions Online (details currently unavailable), and will also win a brand-new Scion!

Outside of the awesome new car, there is another interesting aspect to this contest. The contest is not limited to active subscribers of Champions Online, instead, an offline character creator client is being offered, so even if for whatever reason you aren't interested in a new car, you can still mess around with the creator.

Players who are actively subscribed to Champions Online do NOT need to download the offline creator, according to a post by Daeke on the official Champions Online forums, players can simply select "Scion" from the dropdown menu on the launcher to play with it. You will still need to register at the contest site to access this option, however. Speaking of which, you can sign up here!

    Exactly how I felt.

I'm getting really annoyed with these MMO development companies that only cater their promo competitions for the US market.

Yes I know there are different rules regarding contests for different countries but it would be nice if for once they would try to make the effort to acknowledge there is life beyond the US.

Available to U.S. Residents only hey?

Just like the PAX contest they had.

Just another example of Cryptic's crappy customer service philosophy of telling us their customers what we want, instead of asking what we went.

I have already cancelled my subscription to Champions Online.

A: I am not even sure Xion has retailers in Europe so why would they be interested in marketing here

B: This is nothing new, every company to this date have different competitions for different regions.

So why the rage... Also a better thing would be to write Cryptic and rage instead of posting here.... just my 2 SEK

This have been a good conversation

The contest is being hosted by IGN people complain to them they chose the car company.  Scion is a US car model and they're relatively inexpensive.  Now if they wanted to give a way a more world worthy car like say a Volkswagon they'd be paying out the nose since Forgien cars are not cheap here in the US.  Well except for Honda but thats only because we have Honda factories here in the states.

All contests have region requirements when it comes to giving away physical items...get used to it.

A: I wasn't raging I was making people aware of the fact that I have experienced poor customer service from Cryptic recently, that's just good consumer responsibility.

B: I live in Canada not Europe so I am not sure why the "SCION"  and Cryptic/ IGN wouldn't be able to include Canada in the contest.

C: If a company is going to host a contest, they need to set it up regionally so that each region that they market their product to has access to a version of the contest in their market, otherwise yes, customers in the excluded markets will eventually get tired of bhaving their subscription dollars go to paying for customer loyalty to the fan base in another region. I realize Canada is not the lions share of the business but constant exclusion is not good customer service... but what more could a customer expect from Cryptic? Not much I suppose.

P.S. this post was a little angrier than the first but is certainly not "Raging." lol

Actually, if a company is going to host a contest, they can host it however they damn well please. Get over yourself.

And no subscription money is paying for the contest. It's called cross-promotion. Scion coughs up the car at no charge to Cryptic, they hold a contest, and both companies get some good publicity.

Of course you can ignore these facts and just post some more exaggerated QQ  "I'm not raging!" posts. Whatever's cool with you.

    Ok...

    I stand corrected.

I have rage issues I apologize.

And there's these things called "laws" which tend to make international competitions hard to pull off when the prize is something valuable (a car). Giving away free beta accounts won't make lawmakers blink, but a car costing many thousands, yeah, they'll notice that (They want their taxes).

Then there's the bit of is the car truly legal in the place it was won? Whose emission standards were used on the car? California's? Or someplace else?

Then there's the logistical nightmare if someone won in say the Yukon Territories and the nearest place he could pick up his car is in Edmonton or Calgary. They ain't gonna ship a car to you.

Not to kick you while you are down....

But IGN is hosting the contest, not Cryptic.

I don't think I have ever seen a car-give-away offer that spanned multiple countries, as a matter of fact I believe every time I see a car raffle or other give away promotion it always has the fine print stating:

offer valid only in the continental United States

So I wouldn't expect to ever win a European car in a give away (I live in the States). Mainly due to huge shipping costs, taxes and emissions standards problems.
