I currently play WAR, I'm thinking of switching to one of these. Could somebody with experience with one or both of these games give me some direction in my decision?
Also, anyone with experience with one or both of these games, and with WAR (Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning), please give me some comparative feedback if you can.
Thanks,
Jack

Well if you like WAR then I would think you would like Aion alot better because both center around rvr combat. Champions is more of a pve game that offers arena style pvp.
I only wish Champs had a free trial... It would be nice to be able to try them both out before buying. Right now, I can only do that with Aion.
I find it hard to compare any of the three new MMOs that release this month (Aion, CO and FE).
All three are so different.
Both of the games that the OP is referring to have gotten good reviews.
Flip a coin.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
Of the two, I'd pick Champions.
I really like the way that they don't split players with separate servers like most games do, and it's refreshing to have such freedom in the naming convention and group roles.
Aion seems like a relatively decent game, but the eastern-inspired anime graphic style is a big turnoff for me; I hate games where male characters look effeminate and female characters look about 12. I'm also not too happy about there only being two different playable "human" races and classes that seem heavily role oriented and lacking in hybrid elements.
It's a concern that Aion has only one "tank" class (the Templar) and only one primary "healer" class (the Cleric) and I'm not too happy about the group content being heavily reliant on 2 of 8 classes.
Champions on the other hand has an item-shop; I know that puts a lot of people off.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
Personally I would and did pick CO. I tried them both and Aion was a snoozefest for me. The CO shop isn't going to have anything game changing that you can't get for free in the game. So the story goes anyway. Right now all they have are some action figures which really have no purpose at all.
Co has PvP. Not RvR like WAR or Aion. It's all cage matches. But I have found it to be a lot of fun and spend most of my time doing that.
PVP wise i would rather go with Aion because believe it or not, Champions pvp isn't really balanced or much fun. PVE wise i think both of them are great and its just a matter of picking which style you want.
I've played WAR for months, and only recently quit
Lemmie just say that Aion is a big over hyped pile of crap. This game is horrid. If you think that warhammer was too repetitive, then just try Aion. It is so freaking boring, and has 0 replay value.
When I was playing the Champions Online Beta, I had tons of fun. CO is more of a solo game, but is 10x more fun than Aion. It's just...much , much better.. If you liked City of Heroes or Villans, then you will greatly enjoy Champions Online.
If you like the stupid Asian grindfest mmos, then play Aion. If you like super hero-ed, awesomely fun mmos, then play Champions Online.
If i had to choose between CO and Aion, i would pick Fallen Earth
Oh, i already did.
Like Single Player RPGs with super heroes? Play CO.
Like MMORPGs with PVP + PVE encounters and extreme polish? Play Aion.
Champion's Online, Aion is a copycat Korean grindfest.
This.
if you already played western mmo for the last 5 years such as wow or vanguard, war... you will be tired of aion first without even starting it.
aion is different from usual asian grindfest. it is 100% exactly like western in gameplay. it mimic western well but the skin is still asian style. art and design is still asian but the gameplay is western.
to choose one... ill go with champions. maninly cause i despise slow auto attack and slow boring mage nuking out fireballs must wait for slow boring bar. in champions everything is fast.
Aion is not an a further evolution in fantasy mmorpg's. It is a mechanical game that gives quests to level and a central pvp zone to go through that leveling process. Korean games only show tank/spank boss fights, so it is a kind of an end stop instead of a new beginning.
CO is also a further evolution of CoH and the only new things about it is that it's free to play, with Micro transactions. But the hero theme can already be found in other games. It is very nice to play a super hero .... until you see that all other players are also super heroes. So my advice would be: test both for 1 month, but chances are you will not be playing them more than a month or two. You can try them and refer to them in your future knowledge of mmo's.
My bet is these two games will be long forgotten within 2 years time. Bigger and better titles will certainly launch in future years. Both games are a stop gap between GW2, Wow expansions, Kotor. They simply lack innovation.
Ignore the posts by people who seem to utterly devote themselves to one of the two titles and bash on the other. It's quite obvious you're not going to get a decent response from them. That being said:
AION is your basic fantasy MMO. Many people have said that it gets boring quickly. Many people have said that it does not get boring quickly.
CO is your basic superhero MMO. Many people have said that it gets boring quickly. Many people have said that it does not get boring quickly.
It depends upon the world that you want to play in. Both are quite decent but nothing evolutionary or revolutionary. I think that CO tried to be revolutionary and evolutionary however where AION didn't particularly, so maybe CO failed more.
I'd also suggest just trying both or decide based upon which type of game you prefer. Swords-and-magic fantasy or superheroes.
Enjoy.
EDIT: From what I have seen AION is built to offer a better PvP experience than CO but only at high levels (25+). There are no scenarios, just world PvP, however the central area in AION for high levels (the Abyss) is one big area split into several sections so each of those is like multiple scenarios. You can't PvP at low levels like in WAR unfortunately (1-10 was the best in WAR IMO).
Objectivity is delivered with a lack of personality made for the mainstream but never used for the mainstream.
I've only played AION for about 5 hours now and the only thing that was able to get me off of it was the fact that they realeased a new patch for the OBT and the servers had to be brought down. The game in general seems pretty good so far, I can't really give a good review since I've played it for such a short time, but the graphics are pretty good, the quest system is freaking amazing because you can look up where the creature/item/whateverelse thing that you have to find/kill is through the actuall quest window and it puts a little mark on the map showing where it is, the controls are a lot like WoW with a few little differences. I think this game will progressively get much better as you level up. Not sure what the PvP is like, but judging from the combat system it should be pretty damn good. Oh, also the character customization is out of this world, besides the limited hair and facial hair, you can pretty much make a copy of yourself without a problem.
In AION gameplay up to Level 10 is like this (precisely):
//ENABLING AION GAMEPLAY EMULATOR
Ok. Did that all. Took me some hours.
What about Wandering Nonos? Have you killed them? If not kill 7.
They are no more. They Have ceased to be.
And Nenes?
Expired and gone to meet their maker.
And Boss Nenes?
Yeah, all dead.
And Wandering Nenes?
Last week.
…Alrighty …
<SILENCE>
What about … men with pointed sticks? We could go kill men with pointed sticks!?
WANDERING BOSS NENES! You did not kill those!
sigh. Alright then.
This is silly. Don't know how this ended up in my post. Anyway. It's a most accurate description of the gameplay of AION.
Still better then reading 3 paragraphs of LORE about a mysterious ring that is located in a mysterious cave on a mysterious island when all you see around you is one million and 2 islands with 5 caves on each.
No it's not.
Play Age of Conan. It has a free trial and is amazing. Plus a new expansion is coming out soon.
where did you get this? why i dont hear anything about champions is free to play?
Champions isn't free to play.

If you like WAR and PvP, then Aion is likely the best game for you
