Look, it's absolutely pointless to make a blanket post like that here and expect to get real detailed opinions as to why one is better for you and your friend to play over the other especially when no one here knows either you or your friends playing styles. Here is what I will tell you.
- Played WoW since beta and leveled 3 characters to 80
- Wow had HORRIBLE LAG and I do mean HORRIBLE in it's launch.
- Loved WoW in the beginning for it's questing and the open PvP but the raid grinds and all that goes along with that in terms of spending ridiculous amounts of hours in hopes of getting a piece of gear and having to regrind that same raid over and over again until you do got really old. The BGs were cool at first but they too got repetative and moreover after WoTLK, PVP was broken as the class ceiling was increased and characters had to be rebalanced.
- Class rebalancing and/or nerfing has been trying at best and created alot of flavor of the month players and/or players taking advantage of the situation (usually less mature players) which have since caused the community of the game to go sour which is probably one of the most dissapointing issues of the game now.
- Combat system is outdated, was great for it's time but something fresh is definitely needed.
- Graphics have always been an issue for me PERSONALLY. While I understand it allows for a fun and cartoony humored environment, it just never appealed to me personally. I enjoy graphics that push the envelope.
- Lacked real character customization.
So all that said and I could say alot more, I loved WoW for it's time and even gave the expansion a chance to see something new but found it to be the same old same old unfortunately. Aion on the other hand is a very very fresh game with outstanding visual landscapes, very detailed character creation, a very nice combat system, and a questing system that makes you feel more a part of the story with it's voice overs and cut scenes. I'm not saying it's not without it's issues (Hate auto following my target) but most are able to be customized in the options and as for the grind, you don't even feel like you are grinding because of the multitude of side quests and then the main storyline quests as well. Sure you could sit there and grind away too if that's your cup of tea but there are a multitude of options available including a great crafting system which you also get (while minimal) experience for as well.
If you've never played WOW, I'd recommend you play Aion for now, and wait until the WOW expansion comes out next year as there'll be tons of people re-rolling new characters/class combos and experiencing the "reborn" world.

Just want to say based upon the above this is not some Pro Aioin, Bash WoW session. It's merely an opinion by someone who has played both games, in fact, played a crap load of MMO's. I wish the upcoming WoW expansion tremendous success and truly hope I hear g reat things. But don't let anyone here tell you that Aion isn't a great game because I went in with horrible expectations and I have been unbelievably surprised but you won't find that out here on the boards. Play it yourself for a while (more than 10 minutes) and see for yourself.
WoW is the King, no doubt about it. It ain't my favorite by any means, but facts are facts. But nothing beats that New MMO Smell. Noobs running around, questions aplenty, no one knows where anything is, fewer people being jagoffs... If you want the polished-to-goodness, battleworn old shield that is WoW, or the shiny new model in the store window that is Aion, you need to ask yourself just what you feel more comfortable sinking money in. Either choice you make, you'll have a good time if you are with friends.
If your only element for Aion is " a shiny new box in the store with noobs", I guess it sums up quite nicely the full list of Aion unique features.
Guess how many weeks that will hold your interest? The past average for new MMO launches ... was 3 weeks.

Hey, did you know that my cousin is the driver of that MMOADD bus?
If you love PvE and don't mind PvP in a box or with a legion of bots and terrible balance issues: play WoW.
If you love PvP (open world and almost balanced) and don't mind dull as dishwater PvE: play Aion.
How does Aion have "dull as dishwater PvE" when it has many dungeons for endgame? Aion is way more polished at release than WoW was and will only continue to get more polished, and it has many convient features that aren't available in WoW. Aion has actual world PvP that matters.

He who ask stupid question recieve stupid answer.
If you cant decide on WOW vs AION play WOW because we dont want you in AION.
If you've never played WOW, I'd recommend you play Aion for now, and wait until the WOW expansion comes out next year as there'll be tons of people re-rolling new characters/class combos and experiencing the "reborn" world.
