How many past/present WoW players do you know who are at least going to try AION ?

I m coming to what will proberbly be my last month in Warcraft for a long time ( if i ever return that is ) . Its not souly because AIONs about to be released but i feel brunt out with WoW and disallusioned at Blizzards attitude . I know i m not alone . The majority of people i know in Warcraft have pre ordered AION and there is real hope and expectation that it may offer a real alternative to WoW  for the first time .  Maybe the expectation is too high but if AION does offer the goods it is the first game released since WoW that has real potential to deal a significant blow to its subcriptions numbers . While the same could have been said of Age of Conan and Warhammer there are many differences. Age of Conan was obviously going to be released to early and was not accessable to a lot of players because of its graphics requirements .Warhammer had some glaring misconceptions in terms of its look and gameplay . AION is a polished game because its been active in the asian market for quite a while now . Of course we wont know for a couple of months or so if it will appeal to the western market in the same way but i dont see why it wont because it follows a more westernised mmo model than the average asian game . I m trying not to expect too much because it may end up being another fail but i m hoping/suspecting this time it ll be a huge success .

I played WoW a few years ago, back when 60 was the cap, I was a level 60 paladin and I loved it for a while then lost interest for one reason or another. I've tried a fair amount of MMO's both before (beta'd lineage 2) and after. Bar perhaps guild wars and planetside, nothing has gripped me the same way that WoW did.

Until now. I really love the concept of Aion, especially the nonsense of the lore that still manages to remain intrigueing and enticing. I read that thread on here that was named "Story?!?!" or some such before it was deleted, and the guy was annoyed by the "stupid" plot and the fact that the world was inside the planet, defying the laws of space and physics. I couldn't help but feel he'd missed the point entirely. I don't claim to understand all the ins and outs of the game's lore, but I like the bitterness in the tone of the NPC's towards everything, the authenticity of their motivations. The game just oozes class, at least from an early impression based on the beta. I doubt it will ever be as big as WoW, but hey, less screaming kids on teamspeak can't be all bad right?

I just cancelled my WOW subscription yesterday. I still logon, have it payed until 4th october, but it feels so boring after playing Aion. And I don't really know why. I mean I could tell twice as many things I don't like about Aion than things I like, but I really can't wait to play it again.

  • majimaji Member UncommonPosts: 2,091

None of my buddies who play WoW are going to play Aion or would even more stop WoW to play Aion.

Actually I don't know anyone personally who is going to play Aion no matter what.

Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)

Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)

I can't speak for you, but I have this feeling too.

For me it's because it's something new. I always enjoy something new a lot more.

I have not decided yet if I will try Aion. I might in a few months, but will not cancel WoW until I know for sure that Aion is where I want to continue. Something new can get old quickly.

To answer this topic... maybe 1, myself. Have heard no one else about it.

I have canceled my wow account and will be moving over to Aion.  I to also got burnt out on wow after 2 years of playing.  I do have 2 ? about the game though.  I am not a very good player at pvp but i do try hard.  Can this game be played to the max lvl without doing pvp most of the time.  The other ? is the drops.  I really like to play the healer in online games if i do not kill something in a group because i am doing just the healing is there a chance i can get the drop on it?

    No thanks.

In gear/level based MMOs I prefer my PvP to be consensual thank you very much.

The thought of leveling 20-50 while be ganked/griefed by people with even less of a life then I have is not a pleasant one.

    I'll pass.

    Your opinion is immaterial.

When i first was offered entrance into beta with tabula rasa I was not very impressed by it, it appeared to have nothing much over what WoW had when i quit other than fancy graphics and music.

I do know that some of my workmates are turning to Aion... whether they will stick with it I dont know.

You cant know too many people in game . Have you just started playing WoW with your buddies ? . I play on 4 WOW servers and its impossible to come across at least one person thats going to be trying it .

Zero, this game looks awful and everyone I know feels the same way. Before I knew this was only a english port of a year old game I was given a beta key, didn't use it.

I tried Aion but will not be playing it and have played WOW. Two of my grandsons play WOW and are quiting to go to Aion along with their father. So in my world Aion is 3 for 4 , with WOW losing 2 as my son in law and I had left WOW anyway.

After the OP, meet the second most reknown Wow hater on our WOW forums.

Get over it: 12 servers on each continent.

The game already stumbled from its WOW beating statue in open Beta when number of players are concerned.

And posting OP's like this on the 250 people on mmorpg.com won't help a cent.

You can try the official WOW forums to seek help, they need trolls there because 99% of the WOW players don't even know the thing.

I sometimes think why you have to gank the most succesful mmorpg to be satisfied and have fun in ... another game.

Calm down Zorn, we didnt count anyway as none of us used x-fire.

I know 2 that are and they happen to be my brother and I.

As great and wonderful as WoW has been, it has continously become nerfed and to a point where it's boring to play to a large degree.  Aion is the ticket to fix that for now.

    Momo sucks, I have proof.

Among past/present WoW players about half say they are going to try Aion at some point. Some will wait for a free trial, though. What's more interesting is that none of my friends who never liked WoW have any interest in Aion.  I don't know anyone who is going from EVE to Aion or from AO to Aion or from UO to Aion. I do know a few who are going from WAR or AoC to Aion, but those are all former WoW players.

The Xfire stats of around 250K players max in open Beta seems to confirm this official number.
As are the 12 EU/ 12 NA servers which can be found on the Aion website.
That simply means Aion has only 50 to 60% of the players both AoC and WAR had at the pre launch period. (500K each).
So the number of WOW players interested in Aion is far less than for both War and AoC.
That also shows on the number of posts of Aion trolls on the official WOW forums btw. The 60% market share of WOW also stands as proof against the 54% of  last year ... So GL.
The OP has been haunting and screwing  WOW on our WOW forums for months now. Making OP threads to spew the bitter hate for his ex-love. Silly.
So I am glad he's gone for good.
I am baffled what he would like to find in Aion though as about a thousand WOW features are lacking in the Korean copycat.
Until he has his first boss fight in Aion of course.... to be sure ... I will notify Blizzard they block his IP adresses on leaving so I will be sure he will not come back anyway.
    :))))

Meh WoW is shit, go back to it please..

And I am playing both eve and aion, and know of others. WoW is still shit though.. ;)

That makes sense. Those who like WOW should like Aion as the gameplay is very similar. Those who do not like WOW will not like Aion due to the similarities.

I played WoW .   I am playing aion.  This goes for me and my 25 member guild.   i know that's not alot but hey that's 25 hardcore gamers that have played  beta for aion and we love it.  i like the similarites to WoW and enjoy the twists and polishes that ncsfot has given the game.  The open pvp aspect is a great twist to an mmo.  It really keeps the game play interesting.  WoW is just raid / gear up/ repeat/  new expansion / raid / gear up / repeat.   We attempted to raid in Aion and we were ganked by Elyos, nearly failed, fought them off and resumed the raid, and it took a fair amount of skill for a low lvl raid.  Had we not all been using Vent we would have surely failed.  Aion is more adult oriented IMO  and for myself and my guild that's a good thing.  we are all 23-35 yrs old and we play to get away from our screaming kids lol.  I saw very little bantering and slander in the chats and that was another big plus ( now this could have just been the server we were on i am not making a generalization)    All in all it's a good game so that's 25 coming to Aion from WoW

I played WoW and i tried aion.... Goin  to stick to Aion :D

WoW is like (like what Syron101 said) Get to lvl 80 ---> Raid ---> New Expansion --->Raid ---> Repeat....

Its is boring............. Aion is much better IMO :D

XFire is completely clueless about OB numbers, in fact, if someone was playing the European client of Aion, XFire couldnt even detect it and count towards a total number, check it

This is a great policy, its better to open servers as soon as theu are needed than completely divide the population is small numbers around 40 servers.

As the blind wow fanboy that we all know =) you keep inventing stuff you dont know about by using completely unrealistic numbers. I am sure that you know that this game's OB was in fact limited to some sites distributing keys and the already said pre-sales.
So, how the hell can you know the number of ppl that may be interested in this game but simply had no chance to get a key or havent managed to buy the game yet?
You have become over the last months and weeks a ferocious attacker to Aion and everything about it, simply because you sense that wow is going to loose many ppl to it, and this you can already tell, like many other ppl can, by checking their servers. Mine already lost many ppl and i know for sure that some major guilds on my server are migrating to Aion, and didnt participated on the OB.

So get over it man, nothing you can do or make will erase this reality. Aion is here to stay, and no stupid arguments or misread numbers about limited OB's will change this.

First of all, can you point me the site where it specifies the number of players a Aion server can hold? I know you must have it.

Second, this is the release list, ofc they are being cautious about it, this is an open world pvp, thay want all servers full, not some dead ones like in WAR or AOC.

There are already new servers being prepared to open as soon as those 24 are full, and this will be sooner than later, you will see.

PS: Hope you also read that xfire wasnt counting euopean aion clients.

Korea: 400K subs and 42 servers.

Look up the report yourself. You are good at it.

I fail to see the number of players a server can hold there, and waht i want to know is how many players a western server can hold, you certainly know that depends on the hardware they have.

Plus, those numbers dont tell me anything because i have no way to know if half of there servers are at 50% or 30 % or 100% capacity
