I've played so many f2p games over the years I can't name them all, I mean it's probably 50+ titles at this point, but a few days ago I finally got around to downloading Requiem, figured I'd give the f2p genre a go once again. So far I've been nothing short of impressed.
The graphics remind me of lineage 2 a bit, (which is good). I love the blood effects. The classes are diverse, they multiclass and branch out sort of like lineage 2 as well. However, I think thats where the similarities to L2 break off. So far there are quite a few quests, I'm level 15 and I haven't ran out of things to do, I've been able to upgrade my equipment, and I've actually found quite a few 'magical' items for myself off of killing mobs on quests.
The game lacks the huge tutorial that most games have, it kind of throws you into it to figure out most things on your own, which depending on how you look at it can be good or bad. However, since this is my opinion I liked for once not being thrown around on tutorial quests for an hour or so to basically find out that it controls almost like every other MMO out there. However I suppose if I was new to the genre I would've liked a bit more of a tutorial, (I don't think many people new to MMO's have even heard of Requiem though.)
I found the sound to be decent, I liked the way a few of the mobs sounded when running towards me.
I can't judge the community as of yet. Which is the biggest deterent I have seen from really getting involved. I've seen lots of players, from the looks of it the population on my server is about as healthy as some of the average wow servers, maybe a tad less. I guess the difference is there are only 3 of those servers instead of 150+ wow NA servers. However, I've only talked to one of the players i've seen so far, partially becuase with a free acount you cant use the region chat. So being relagated to General chat, which I believe has about a 50-100 yard range around you, means you have to be pretty damn close to someone to say anything to them.
It might take just finding a guild you like playing with to really get into this game, but so far for a free to play MMO, it's definety one of the better ones. It wont draw the type of crowd flocking to the cute anime style games, and will never have the huge demands of AAA titles, but seems to have a decent 'cult' following, and I am going to be part of that cult.

I really liked this game when it first came out, i havel ike 4 guysi nthe 20s but my computer wasnt that good at the time so i stopped playing, it was laggy.
I recently bought a new computer and i download requiem, log in and realize that graphics are same, and its a bit choppy and kinda annoying.
I do have to say the dungeons are pretty awesome, and the transformations are cool to. Nightmare mode is awesome lol...
I might dl it again.. idk...
O and one thing that i found to be annoying is the lack of quests... its pain in the ass to level when u get up there.
no mouse invert
no rebindable keys
among other basic UI things, i wanted to try the game but they decided to make it look good but play like crap =(
Gotta admit for all the years i've played MMO's it's been about 10, I've never really cared about ever doing anything to my UI, except when raid leaders forced it upon me. I've seen some UI's for WoW that we're decent and WAR, but just not my thing I guess.
after watching the trailer again i am forced to try it again... eowewoeq looks so good lol.
I wish I didn't have to focus so much on how customizable UIs are, but I am forced to. It's just disappointing especially with a game like this that looks like it would be a pretty decent game then they go and make the interface terrible. One of the easiest parts of a game to make changes to and fix and they screw it all up. The crucial thing that these companies don't realize is that for someone that needs or wants a customizable UI experience it becomes the most important facet of their game. Sure most people don't care if they can't rebind keys but for the ones like me who do care, we don't buy their stuff. People that need or want to remap keys don't just get over it, we rule out those games and play something else, even if it looks good like this 1 does.
I just got done downloading, being disappointed, and then uninstalling ether saga online for this exact reason =(
I respect your opinion, I suppose customization is part of what makes RPG's fun, and the UI is just one of those things, in an MMO that a lot of people have grown accustom to being able to tweak to look the way they desire.
For me, and maybe it's becuase I have stayed somewhat uneducated on the UI's available for a lot of games. The UI is just not that important unless it clutters up the game to a point where I'm staring at UI instead of what is going on.
@rehp
so you don't care about the game play or about how the game looks. all you care about is if you can customize your UI? hahah....
i respect your retarded opinion. LOL.
I'm giving it a shot, did the dl and now updating 5 patches. Ugh, probly wont be until tonite that I can play. What server and class does someone suggest just starting out?
Any newbie advice?
I suggest Hammerine server because only PK enabled server and generally most populated. I have a level 53 Forsaker(Bartuk Shaman) which is mostly a PVE aoe party class(good in server vs server pvp). When choosing a class, my advice is to figure out what end game class you want before taking any skills. After hitting 2nd job change, some of the first job skills open up to higher levels, depending which class you pick for that race. It cost $5(from item mall) to respect your skills so choose wisely. I would recommend looking up a guide on the official forums or possibly looking at wiki site for better skill information. Leveling is easy with all the quest between 1-60, but after that it starts to get grindy, It might be a good idea to invest in Premium later on.

The game is still not fully developed so expect more content releases in future.
This game is definetly one of the best F2P games out there that is MMORPG ...
Definetly a must try ...It is very good of a game and the horror factor is in the game as well.
Butterfly effect
but i believe this is the hardcore game, means ned a lot effort to raise level with free account. but thts shows ourself bout the consistency and spirit of gaming. ^^
but overall i really likes this game a lot....!!
I have tried and I have like it!! Best thing is the death sequences. Overall landscape is very good, totally in accord to the game's theme.
Will have to juggle myself between Rf Online and Requiem
wow you play RF too? hahaha, looks like we have some interest on taste of game-theme.
I played RF too after quit wow, but now came to this game and i like it, only thing i miss is more different abilities. And why the hell you say u can't rebind keys, i binded every skill i have and some other things i needed, but yeah UI could be better :x .also feel bit lack of quests it would be so much more fun to lvl if there were some more quests. We'll see what tommorows update will bring, i hope memento mori will fix atleast some things.
i just hate the fact that EVERYONE looks the same
Yeah requiem lacks customization in character creation, well it atleast has 4 different races and all of em looks fine (Kruxenas is awesome) .
wow you play RF too? hahaha, looks like we have some interest on taste of game-theme.
Actually, Im doing a Pharaonic task by juggling myself between Requiem, Rf Online, DDO and real life duties!!! Organizational skills anyone?
yea its lack of customization, like RF online, all player looks same...only the rare equiep can make it different, and also the glow of the weapon.
4 character i thin' is good, and also each race has its own job's tree...thtas awesome too, it gives much exerience to gain from some F2P MMORPG.
Yeah, I can sum it up in one word.
Prioritize.
