Blacksmithing

ArchgriffinArchgriffin Member UncommonPosts: 39

Greetings, I'm looking for a MMO where I can roleplay (I need a good roleplaying comunity) as a Blacksmith, so I was wondering if you can post some titles that have a nice metalurgic crafting system. Thank ou in advance.

Well, upcoming "Mortal online" have 100s of metals and thousands of combos.

Otherwise do Vanguard and EQ2 have some ok crafting systems, not nearly as evolved as MO but you can make a character that only lives as a smith in both, without adventuring.

MO is still in beta but if you preorder it you can join the beta (but MMO betas are full of bugs).

VG and EQ2 have free trials.

Mortal Online looks fine, are you playing the beta? What more can you say about the crafting system?

Mortal Online is supposed to be so far away from playable that it is hard to describe. More Alpha than Beta. And not even close to Beta. At least that are the replies I got from some guildies who made the pre-purchase (and mostly regret it).

Define nice. Almost every game has a blacksmithing profession. WoW has one and there are at least official RP realms. But I wonder if that profession will be enough to make the daily life as an RP'er enjoyable (however that is possible in general...). Aion, being the new kid on the block, has one too. Crafting is damn expensive and will take a lot of time. There are, at least in Europe, unofficial RP realms voted by the communities. For the English speaking that is: Castor I belive, or Gorgos.

The best way to roleplay a blacksmith may be to find a game that encourages roleplay which also happens to have  blacksmithing.

Best bet would be LOTRO or perhaps AoC. Although MOrtal Online may have a great Metal/blacksmith system, if there is no other roleplayers it wouldnt be a good fit. What good is roleplaying a blacksmith when everyone else stands around, looking at you funny  saying "Dude, I want +5"

I've taught about those two, I've played LOTRO before and I may go for it. AoC has a good fluf (not that I'm saying that Howard is better then Tolkien) but I must check the system before. Thank for your help.

I'd say Dofus... If you want a "serious" community, you might want to try the "heroic" server, though I think most there are French and you definitely need to suscribe to access this one.

They are lots of sorts of blacksmith in Dofus: swords, daggers, shovels, hammers, shields, axes (the newest one, there may not be as many level 100 (level cap in jobs) in this one). You can have up to three jobs (but I'd recommand having a miner on the side for smiths). Each one can specialised, so you can modify the stats of a forged weapon.
