People who complain about other games that they don't like or whatever reasons they have are just WAY to damn funny. Still don't understand why people come on these forums to just flame other games. What's the point really?
They flame, because they are afraid that people will leave their beloved game..Yes this game shines.
Hey everyone,i dont post too much on here but i felt i should give my opinion on Aion from my experiance in game. There has been a lot of talk about Aion being a "WoW clone" or "WoW 2" and while something will remind you of WoW,Aion is very much not WoW.I've always been a gamer that like to play "risk for reward" PvP games,i've played Neocron,UO ,Shadowbane and Darkfall to name a few,so when hearing about Aion and they hype behind it turned me off about the game. It took a lot of begging on some of my friends parts but they got me to try Aion, and i must say they have done a very good job with blending a lot of things i like about MMO's,and belive it or not ....there is risk i PvP .So maybe its not full loot, but there higher level you are the more you risk (meaning if you die you going to pay a ton of gold to get a soul heal and you also going to take a nasty hit on your abyss points ,and that could be hours of work ,or worse yet ....you set them back so they cant obtain that new peice of gear they wanted ). So in short i want to let people know that you should choose for yourself to try it or not and dont belive the BS for so called 'hardcore gamers" ....because this game has some hardcore values and i myself think its a very good step in belinding what everyone likes about MMO's.
Yeah I'll probably try it when they release a free trial.
There are way to many people who think Aion is a quest grinder to put it down to them personally disliking Aion for some reason. Indeed on a recent feature on this site we heard how the localisation team was adding more text to quests to give better reasons for people to do quests.
But Aion is already a success and will make at least a decent splash over here. What is more interesting is what this bodes for the future. Will Korean MMO’s now be designed in a some what more western way like Aion was? Almost certainly the next Korean game that tries to bridge the gap will be more westernised than Aion. Aion shows where Korean gaming could be taking the MMO industry in five to ten years. All they have to do is sort out those quests and polish up the UI and PvP by the sound of it.
All right, so I assume the game has the same crappy instanced world as Age of Conan? Once a zone is filled up with players (let's say 100), it opens up a new instance/channel. Why don't people mind that suddently? I remember all the hate on AoC and Tabula Rasa especially for that.
The channel system is pretty much the same as AoC's instances. Not all areas in Aion have this tho that's the difference from AoC, but the way it works is identical to AoC. If a channel is overcrowded you can simply change channel or instance if you want to call it that instead.
Playing: Battlefield - Bad company (Xbox360) Arma2, DFO (PC) On my radar: TSW, MO MMO's played: SWG (pre cu/cu), WoW, AoC, WAR, DFO, Planetside MMO's that I have tested: Lotro, L2, Aion, Ryzom
How is this different from Tabula Rasa / AoC instanced world again, which was heavily flamed here?
1: Channels in Aion are way bigger and not limited to a number of people. Channels dont get full, and you could easily find hundreds of people during the first hours of aion regardless of your channel choice.
2: Channels aren't there to help the game's performance, game will run perfectly wether you're surrounded by 100 people or 10.
3: Channels end when interactivity between players start (PvP, big groupping areas, commercial zones, crafting hubs, etc).
That's why channels didn't work in AoC, that's why they do no harm in Aion.
We all know that in REAL MMOs when you roll a character you should be tied to the piece of hardware you were connected at the moment. If that hardware fails, you should be praying they had a backup. If it wants a reboot you should be praying it comes back as well cause otherwise you should be re-rolling on another server.
If people of your server are too little or too much, instead of playing the game, you should be spending all your time posting drama on internet forums about how bad your server is and that you need character transfers even if that means you 'll have to pay a decent amount of money. When - if at all - you manage to convince the game developers about it, you 'll have to sacrifice two blue eyed frogs under the light of the full moon in order to get the option to actually transfer to the server you dreamed about, the server that some friend of yours plays. And if that wasn't enough, in REAL MMOs you are thrown on your new server nude like a convict. Forget about your gear, your "bank" and your guild. It's a new start adventurer!
"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."
You still did not answer me how is this different from the instanced world of Tabula Rasa (which in fact did not have instances in higher level zones either) and was heavily flamed here. Because of that, I have to assume again and agree with what Josher said. Selective memory. You would even call it an advantage here right?
It's because of the way it's implemented. You play normally, you don't know about the channels at all because the chat is common to all channels and there is plenty of people around. Then one day you group, around lvl 15 and can't see your mates, you ask around and discover about it. Then change cannel and find your friend. Then a few levels ahead there are no channels. So not a big deal.
Aion is just a korean version of a game that wishes to be wow but fails due to amazing linearity, instanced zones and just all too boring for anyone who experienced wow. NEEEXTTT
P.S Wings... gee great
How ignorant can wow fanbois be.
Oh i forgot u get to play a goblin in cataclysm , it must be really amazing lolllllll
It's a good sign when critics of the game sound like the guy above.
Aion is the typical asian grindfest, just dressed up a bit. It has all the junk usually associate with such. Personal shops that clutter and lag the cities. Channels which means everything is instanced, want to play with a friend, find the channel they are in. Bad pvp design, 2 faction wars just don't work, once someone starts winning constantly the rest leave. Little to do at end game except pvp, oh yeah that will eventually break too. Minimal crafting design, nothing to keep anyone playing.
So enjoy your journey to end game, but don't race through it, because you will quit when you get there.
Let's see you can have a "open" world where you have 5000 people trying to kill the same boss, npc, or pick up a quest item. Mmm lots of fun waiting to try to jump on the object of your desire before the other 5000 nimrods. They had a quest like that in S.U.N., and guess what NO one liked it.
You can have channels so you divide that number by 10 so you only have to deal with 500 nimrods. Which believe it or not, makes the experience alot better ala Aion. The number of channels become less and less the higher you level in Aion. It was put in to ease the rush of new players which is btw hundreds of thousand which reduces lag, kill stealing, and generally makes idiots on here bitch less.
Finally, you can slap things in instances ala WoW...Wailing Caverns, Gnomer, BlackWing Lair, Ulduar, etc... Those are all instances aren't they? Where other people besides your party can't go in and steal your precious items?
This totally "open world" being better is b.s. , well i suppose you can have 500 of the same boss cloned all over the map so each of the 10000 newbs on the server gets to kill one of them before the end of the day. I think open world is a good concept but it has a place and a time in the game, and it's not when you have a huge rush of people at the opening of a game. It's later in the game ala the abyss, ala the old days in terran mills, etc. It's not at lev 5 when 10000 are trying to finish they same quest,

Seems ignorance got up out of the wrong side of the bridge this morning.
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
Someone I know has told me how he has his meal while waiting for the queue to count down. Now this happened in the early days with WoW, and was eventually sorted. But just trying to dismiss all these issues, well you deserve some fanboy medals guys.

We get it. The game hasn't been out as long as WoW. You got us. You said it yourself that these are issues like what happened when WoW first came out. I'm still trying to decide whether or not i like this game (keeps going back and forth between a grind and a flood of quests and pvp), but I think if they fix some of the rubberbanding, and add more (non-gathering) quests the game would be much better. However, trying to hold up a fairly newgame (been out a lil over a year now) to one that's been released for over half a decade and on it's 3rd expansion, and at the same time call others fanboys, seems a bit hypocritical.
I used WoW to show how I don't think the queues will last forever, same goes for rubber banding, servers just to highly loaded currently.
I was more concerned about how all these issues are being dismissed in advance of them being sorted out, which is a tad fanboy.
I have no doubt the quest system will flesh out, but time is not on their side. Well not on their side, when you realise that players think you should be able to fix issues like that in a couple of weeks.

So those aren't features in Aion? Sounds like a typical shit grindfest to me, complete with outdated "personal shops" (spending 5 hours visiting all the towns and a bajillion player shops = fun, yeah riiight). I've played plenty of them. He's right, they're all crap.

1. Aion has Auction House and personal shops which after 30 minutes are logged out, but good way to sell some stuff at hotspots e.g. potions.
2. Zones where there is pvp are not instanced.
3. NPC faction also meddles in so there is basically three sides.
I rather play Aion than WoW, got enough of that before the first expansion came out, while not perfect it's something to do while waiting SWTOR.
