And I just wanted to know, is there a friendly community? I've seen videos of the game and it looks like this game has a huge learning curve. I'm just curious if the game has a nice community that at least have a few people that are willing to help a new player. Thanks in advance.

Well, you start off in an NPC corporation right off the bat. Tons of (helpfull) people in those. Dont bother joining the rookie channel, your question will drown.
And do the tutorial. For gods sake, do the tutorial .
Lots of friendly ppl in EVE. Look for a Corp that specializes in what you would like to do and join. EvE University is a good one.
Alright thanks. Just one more question. Which race should I pick?
Stats are no longer an issue since the latest expansion. Go for the one that suits your style cosmetically. remember, you can learn to fly other races' ships at any time, should you want to.
What is that keycode in your signature for?
Its a sentence. Try reading it .
Its not a learning curve, its a cliff And also the word community and Eve....well i'm not really going to go into that but if your stuck and need help on figuring out I heavily suggest hoping into the regular "Help" Channel (F12). Its a channel where all vasts amount of players go to ask questions and help each other on game issues.

Alright, thanks everyone.
Beta Codes are for people who don't beg
There are lots of nice, helpful people. There are also plenty of people who will kill you or get you killed just for laughs. Learning to distinguish between the two is probably one of the primary skills you will need to acquire.
There are player-run several organisations that exist specifically to help new players. Look up EvE university.
Give me liberty or give me lasers
Well, let's see. Caldari races are genetically superior to all others, I'd suggest making one of them. Also, best advice for starting out. Train up to your chosen race's battleships, then train up to large smartbombs. Equip enough smartbombs to fill the highslots on that battleship and go outside Jita IV - Moon 4 - Caldari Navy station and then set them all off. You get a special treat. Oh, and send me the KM, plz, thx, Bai!
By now I'm sure you've already downloaded the client and started playing the game. Regardless, I'll give you a brief rundown of the major factions/races as this will help you out later on.
Amarr
RP Stuff: Evil, religious, theocratic society. Very organized.
Battle style: Phalanx. (Tough ships with good range, a handful of these together are tough to beat conventionally.)
Defenses: Armor (Best of all races)
Short range weapons: Pulse Lasers - Medium range and good punch, but can't really hit anything at point blank.
Long range weapons: Beam Lasers - Long range, good punch, excellent accuracy.
Caldari
RP Stuff: Organized capitalistic rebels.
Battle style: Long range (most ships have good range, but are slow and usually don't work well solo.)
Defenses: Shields (Best of all races)
Short range weapons: Unguided missiles - They hit pretty hard, but only against big slow moving targets. Short to mid range
Long range weapons: Guided missiles and railguns - don't hit very hard, but they have the longest range in the game.
Gallente
RP Stuff: Evil, independant, democratic society.
Battle style: Hammer. Forces are individually very capable in offense, defense, maneuverability, and ability to tackle opponents.
Defenses: Armor (sacrifices some armor for felxibility)
Short range weapons: Blasters - Hardest hitting weapons in the game, but not terribly accurate.
Auxillary weapons: Drones - extremely flexible point-defense weapons that compliment blaster damage.
Long range weapons: Railguns - second in range to caldari railguns, but with lots more punch.
Minmatar
RP Stuff: Ex-slaves, independant, not too smart.
Battle style: Skirmishers. (dances around opponents and avoids toe to toe confrontations)
Defenses: Speed (don't need as many hitpoints if you don't get hit as often) Also uses shield or armor.
Short range weapons: Autocannons - Short to mid range, most accurate weapon in game, but relatively low damage output for short range weapons.
Long range weapons: Artillery - Range, accuracy, and damage over time are all bad, but the alpha strike can destroy some ships in one shot. Overall still a good weapon.
I hope this helps a bit.
Caldari got the highest numbers and their starting NPC corp is the worst. Most of the people there are clueless bears, that's not a good place where to get help and info about the game from.
I agree and disagree with some of the people here of course.
Races - it doesn't matter what you pick in the long run, they're all pretty much the same. If you enjoy RP then read the stories and pick whats best for you. There is no uniqueness in the world.
Is the community nice? That depends, do you have ISK to give them? Do you enjoy playing a game with mindless zombie hordes that have no soul because they dump their lives into an online game?
There is no learning curve. Atleast there wasn't one for me. It's more of a learning snooze fest. Did you goto school? Or are you in school atleast? If so, remember those classes that you fell asleep in no matter how hard you tried to stay awake? That's EVE online.
Enjoy your trial.
