New player - SA UO

haddasmhaddasm Member Posts: 11

Well, I've been around a while and had my play at many an mmo. I actually started with EQ in '99. Recently, after loosing all faith in mmo's ever becoming worth my while again... I decided to give UO a try as everyone has given it a good review. Well, I'm am nothing more than very very pleased and horribly addicted already. This game is great; simple as that. It's old and yet holds my attention and really brings me into the world more than any mmo that's been out in the last 8 years. The skill system is wonderful and the new enhanced client is much better than the old, of which I've seen some screens. It's great to be back in a world again, one that I can grow in and feel at home in. So thanks UO for actually having depth, apparently that is impossible to do these days.

Hey there! I am so glad you like UO, I currently have two active accounts myself.. None of my old mates play UO anymore which is a shame, I currently don't have much going on it the game either, I plan to get back into it.. The game is not what it use to be, it use to be much, much better and if you really want to find out what it use to be like there is free shards, we cannot talk about them here but can elsewhere, just contact me through my AIM: Eyrothath24.. Now and days I wouldn't recommend UO to anyone due to the fact that you will never get to experience what I got to experience in my time of playing, it somewhat saddens my heart, but people end up enjoying the game none-the-less, which puts a big smile on my face.. I am glad you enjoy UO!

I got  a reinvite to UO (played it over 10 years ago ;-) and it's still a great game.

Can't quite understand what happene dto all the different engines though.

Once there was a 3d engine (Blackthorn'e revenge?), and years later a Kingdom Reborn one.

Both looked nice. SA looks just like the old UO but the magic looks nicer. Any idea what happened to the other engines?

They are no more... Gone.. Eliminated by the devs.. You can actually still use KR if you don't have SA.. I don't have SA yet but plan to get it..

    Shame.

I managed to download the KR version btw (fileplanet) but can't run it.

When logging in i receive a message KR is no longer supported.

Oh well, the SA graphics work as well, just thought KR looked nice ;-)

Ahh, well then I guess KR no longer works, you can play on the SA client actually without buying all the content for SA, which is nice, I have not gotten the expansion yet but I plan to.

Just in response to the whole "saddened by how the game has changed"; we get this stuff a lot in the EQ community... oh boo woo bring back Classic EQ. Nostalgia. But the more I think about it the less I'd like to be in classic EQ again, we dealt with how shitty the game ran back then because we didn't know any better.

I'm of course new to UO but as a "new player" (which I think is rather important to the community as a whole to have such people coming to check out their game)... UO is masterfully worked at this point. Very open to new people and polished, I can see that easily.

Well.. It is a game that I have played 8 years or more, it is not so much as the fact that it has changed so much, but that most new players will never get to experience what we all got to experience during all those years, its crazy thinking about it cause it is such a old game, I didn't even know there were still new players joining the game.. I should probably go back to UO, as nobody knows me in it anymore, I use to play in guilds and lead guilds with 100+ people.. They all quit the game, I have trouble playing without them these days.. It's just, not the same.. I am trying to gather up most of them though and bring them back.. I think its time for players to start coming back, I wish they all would. Somehow I don't see UO lasting another 8 years, or any new player from today, playing it 8 years from now.. That is the part which saddens me.. I feel like they are coming in too late, too soon..

I guess I am just not walking in their shoes though, so I really do not know.

Here is a interesting video someone made that you should watch.. This is basically how I feel..

Good old fashion roleplaying that happened on Pacific..(before I was into roleplaying)

We use to have this orc guild called the shadowclan.. And orc isn't even a player race, but people roleplayed as orcs, we all spoke black speech which is a tolkein language, there is a entire dictionary..

    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ultima-Shadowclan.jpg

You currently don't see stuff like that anymore XD, you kind of do on Europa, which has some amazing roleplaying going on, you can get on that server, just walk to Cove, and you'll be shocked by the community on that shard.. It is actually the closest thing that resembles what we got to experience in UO is the roleplaying guilds on Europa, they are amazing...

Here is a link to one of the roleplaying guilds on Europa, they are a amazing guild... You would like it a lot I think.. I am in it.. We have tons of guilds doing RP warring in a very classic and specific way, its actually a real blast here on Europa. There is plenty here..

I'm a 100% supporter of RP and I will agree with you there. In terms of games changing, I think EQ went bad when all the good RPers went elsewhere.

Now that's old school. I remember Shadow Clan.  I  haven't played in like 10 years, but didn't they wear armor that dropped from orcs and wasn't their main color yellow? I was in Shadow Wolf Justice back then.

Speaking of which, I  started playing  UO  again with the return to britannia event and I  noticed that when choosing character faces on the SA  client, an orc is an option along with undead, vampire and some other weird ones.
