It may not have eyecandy graphics, it may not be ZOMG HARD(even on hard difficulty), it may not have a 5 stars movie story and it may not have a huge world, but I think this is one of the few games that I actually had lots of fun playing. Hell, I'll admit inFamous was better but I'm still suprised on how companies reviewed this so bad.
It's one of the few games that kept me near the monitor for so many hours and it was straight fun. No competitive spirit that makes you play it to become the best(like certain MMOs and online FPS), just the fun of being able to do certain things. The story wasn't half-bad either, it became rather interesting at times.
I think this game deserves at least a 8.5, maybe because I'm just a sandbox games' fan but:
If I'd follow all these reviews I'd probably end up with playing shitty, hyped games and miss some really cool ones.

im the best reviewer of the games i play, you should be one aswell. prototype rocked
I have to agree with the above poster. Prototype was awesome. Course, I wish it took place in a city that looked as cool as GTA4's Liberty City, but you can't have everything. GTA4 didn't let me throw cars at zombies, or slice through peds like a Tasmanian Devil.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I'm sorry but most reviews are so far off when it comes to games that I find enjoyable.
Problem with alot of Reviewers since they consider themselves Pros is that they rate Fun factor very low. If a game has average graphics and good gameplay but is freaking fun as hell they will still rate it about average due to the graphics and shit like controls.
Just rent games like I do and if you like them buy the damn thing.
I loved prototype so all those reviewers were obviously wrong in my eyes.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
Personally for me Prototype was a big let down, I was hyped about it and then when I have tried it I was dissapointed. For me, singleplayer games must have quality storyline and story telling, must have good gameplay in order to keep me in front of screen, prototype simply did not offer thouse things to me, idea was great, but for me story was awfull. And while playing I always had some deja vu feeling like I had played this, for me game is too much repetative.
I it possible that someone likes it and they should play it, but it is just not my cup of tea.
Because reviews are just educated opinions, and not everyone's going to have the same opinion of something as you do?
Yeah I tried the game and I got hooked played 3 hours non stop !
Don't know what anyone's complaining about the controls to be honest, I got a controller for it and it plays just great. Only problem I'd point out is that somehow targetting doesn't get the nearest one you really wanted to but it doesn't really ruin the game at all.
It's smooth, gory and fun !
I think a lot of people lost their gaming skills due to too much MMO and theorycrafting (myself included! but no more :P) and they kinda start looking for efficiency and goals etc. things like that where you only need to do whatever you want :P
It probably got a low rating because most people were sick to death of these "Anti-Hero Supermutant-man" games coming out all at once.
I'm sure people had fun with them anyway, so what's the point of caring whether or not your game got a good rating? I'm tired of seeing people complain that "Their" game didn't get a good rating.
Prototype was good, not a very long lasting experience though.
