I think It could very interesting to see what kind of MMORPG's they make when they start getting into them. They're catching up in regards to technology to North America and such places as Japan, South Korea etc.
They have some very original and talented artists over there and when they do get in, I'm sure there will be no shortage of programmers. It will be interesting to see If they create there own unique style of MMORPG'S.
They may very well have an innovative and unique twist on MMORPG's when they get into this genre. Western games are more Quest and story driven these days and Chinese/Japanese/Korean games are more grind focused, or social action based etc

Yes, It will be very interesting to see. Delhi is really moving fast in regards to technology and computer science.
It will be cool if they come up with a unique design and model for MMORPG's if and when they get into MMORPG's.
Are you kidding...I see more more of the same being made. Nobody wants to make virtual sandbox worlds anymore and all we'll most likely get is the same old same old stagnate boring themepark worlds we're seeing flood the market today! God I am so sick of games that are so not game worlds anymore. ::sigh::
The future of when India gets into Online gaming and MMORPG'S in specific has a certain layer of unpredictibilty of It. Atleast have some optimisim about It. You cannot say for sure what will happen. Let's atleast be positive about It.
I have some friends that live there and as you know education is stressed there so from what i've been told kids there really don't have much time to play video games or do these sort of things, as for if they go global and what not in my opinion its really hard to say. There's some extremely talented people there but alot of poverty aswell which makes it hard for them to be successful but one thing i know for sure is that there hardworking and dedicated so if people have the money and vision im sure it would be a good quality item.
Cool idea, I never really thought of india getting into the mmorpg market. I bet they would bring their own flavor to things, chances are it wouldnt be sandboxy though.

Check out the MUD I'm making!
With their population, vegetarian diet (which greatly develops the intellect and creativity compared to a carnivorous diet.) and spirituality, I think we could really see some fascinating and great games. Totally original designed games with unique and brilliant ideas could very well come out of India.
Also they have a great amount of sunshine all year around which is also great development for all parts of the human body.
The cynic in me demands sources for these statements. You don't get to just say anything you want and have it be true. And unless your source is a primary, empirically researched source then you're wrong and need to shut up. Sunshine is primarily an easy and completely free source of a vitamin. You can take supplements to get about the same benefits.
Other than a difference in vitamin and mineral intake I have read ZERO conclusive evidence that says a vegetarian diet is superior to an OMNIVOROUS diet. You would have to try REALLY REALLY hard to find a human being that eats ONLY meat. There are a number of minerals and vitamins in fish that are extremely good for the brain that you can't (as far as I've read) find in other animals or plants.
India has a LOT of industrialization and development to go before we're going to see other entertainment industries pop up there.
Besides that - thinking that somehow our current industries across the world are somehow missing something major is more than a little asinine. What? Do you think that somehow all of companies like Bioware and Activision and such are completely filled with white people? If you do then you live an extremely sheltered life and probably need to get out more or something. Most good development teams are multi-cultural with people from many different backgrounds.
If your entire development staff is from only one or two cultures with similar backgrounds then as far as creativity goes you're probably going to suffer. More variety in your staff breeds a meshing of ideas and many times, conflict. Conflict, if managed correctly, breeds great ideas.
India is a world unto itself. For the one part the brits did leave in the country decidedly western understandings and attitudes, but then the enormous mosaic of its culture on the other part, remains largely incomprehensible to the rest of the world. The indians developed an evolved philosophical tradition that predates the hellenic world, an yet some of the practices amongst their religious minorities came a close second to the civilized savagery of the Aztecs.
An Indian MMO could very well become practically unplayable to foreigners and make so called "cultural differences" with far eastern games minuscule in comparison. Or an obscure game might suddenly become the veritable WOW killer and a revolution to the whole genre. Neither would surprise me. An anecdote that i would quote on such respect refers to the fact that no Indian team has ever attended the World Cup. They did got to qualify once (this was for Brazil 1950, the one famous for the Maracanazo) although they refused to make the trip after they were informed they would not be allowed to play barefoot. Now, it seems ludicrous to think that the second most populous country in the world (and one with a strong anglo influence) could not muster a competitive team. Theyre the worlds largest functioning democracy and a nuclear power. India remains a mistery a lifetime could not unravel.
The next couple of decades will very likely see new competitors enter the scene. Im pretty sure Russia, Brazil, South Africa and Australia will all produce at least one quality MMO within that timeframe. The evolution of their software industries as well as local demand would point in that direction. India may not produce an MMO in the next 50 years or it could also become the worlds biggest developing hub within the next 10. Its anybodys guess...

dont mind him hes from neverland..... everything is make believe there. As far as the India thing goes, I think their multicultural background, and ties to the classical world (see Alexander the Great) there will be an untapped database of ideas yet to be utilized in this area.
It sucks being a hardcore player at heart but a casual player in availability. ~NightCloak
India could bring a different religious/mythic back drop to the development of MMO worlds.
Reincarnation, karma other regional stories could all be used to create a fascinating new take on the fantasy setting.
We all know dwarves, elves, and goblins have been done to death. Weather MMO gaming in India goes sandbox or theme park would be entirely up in the air.
Asheron's Call, Champions Online, Dark Age of Camelot, EVE Online, EverQuest, Lineage 2, Star Wars Galaxies and World of Warcraft.Waiting for SWTOR
Sadly your statement at the begining is againest known scientific research on brain development, a diet higher in animal protein more so if fish, but still varied, is better for the brain. Pure vegetarians have their diet dictated to them to a degree, due to having to constantly chase certain minerals and proteins, iron being one of the main issues, as it takes a whole plate of spinach to replace the iron of one very small steak.
For best overall development a diet containing ALL food groups, balanced is best as humans are omnivores, and for a damn good reason, as it gives a major advantage over herbivores and carnivores.
I think your confusing a mostly vegetarian diet because of poverty and in some cases relegious reasons, and have fallen for the spiritaul dogma some attach to vegetarin lifestyle, which as in allot of new age methos has been proven again and again to be well just plain bollocks.
Vit D ifrom constant sun exposure is good for general health and bone growth, however there is a pay off, eye damage, skin cancer etc etc so having cateracts and being patialy blind would be a bummer, but thats the only part that at least is correct.
An Indian mmo would look like this...
Now joking aside, watch movie trailers and music videos from the 80s to today and you'll notice that nothing ever changed. My girlfriend is really into India movies, and makes me watch them sometimes with her, and believe me, it's always the same story and they always use the same filming techniques that are devoid of imagination.
Don't get me wrong, I am not talking about their culture, they do have a beautiful culture, but they don't know how to innovate, and an Indian mmo in my opinion would not be very good in terms of originality.
Reincarnation could be an awesome mechanic, imagine being forced to play a different animal for a couple of hours evrytime you die.
Just to make things clear...

I kinda agree with you, my mom for some reason used to be into that stuff aswell and it was pure torture for me to sit there but at the same ground i saw some very original things and ideas presented in the movies. In my opinion a cultural game would be amazing but maybe not that appealing to others because of vast cultural differences, another thing to note is that most of these developers that are into the genre move to other countries and work for companies like blizzard, EA etc. There's an EA studio near where i live and whenever i go past it i always see many different cultural people coming out of there, maybe its just because i live in canada but ye. I think the biggest problem would be money, right now 1 canadian dollar is worth roughly 44 rupess and in general the country is not very rich so taking a big project like a MMO would seriously be a big step and quite risky.
These stupid forums totally messed up this post's formatting and it came out as abunch of HTML codes.... see next one. Sorry.

I actually lived with an Indian guy for 8 months, who barely spoke English but spoke 8 Indian languages. He contributed all his knowledge and the fact that he could study for hours w/ no problem what-so-ever, to his spiritual mediation practices. He tried to teach me, but I guess it's something you have to really be into or grow up doing for it to be really effective.
As far as the food thing goes, he was strictly a vegan (I guess that's what it's called? no eggs, meats, etc. Dairy was ok though) and he was extremely tiny. He weighed about 100lbs and 5'3" and was 32.
The problem is, even though there are alot of smart ones, they all tend to think in pretty much the same way. There really isn't a whole lot of uniqness among them.... you can really see it in their music. All their music is almost identical and really hasn't changed much in hundreds of years. (I've been around Indian culture alot more than just him.... I just lived with him for awhile) Of course, there is a billion Indians in India and idk how many in the world. It could just be that only the smart ones are able to make it to America, they still live very much in a Social Caste System over there. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caste_system_in_India

This is kind of starting to devolve into bigotry... Not pointing any fingers, just saying...

no one knows how the game would like..
if they choose to show their culture and other beliefs
in the game so that it can be unique and new to all mmo
gamers then it would be great.. but if they choose to
follow the trend of other games nowadays that would be
quite sad lol..
Talking about another culture isn't bigotry, the reason it seems like that is because of warped American politically correct thinking BS. But yet, it's pretty much OK for anyone here to talk bad about Mexicans, but it's not OK to talk bad about Latin Americans. :-/ I was talking more about culture influenced things, where as pretty much everyone knows someone who's full heritage is from X country but born in the US isn't like anyone else they know from X country who was born and raised in X country. Be it Mexico, India, Korea, Japan, China, etc. Who's to say that's a bad thing?

Not saying its a bad thing per se, just started to see a lot of generalizations. As for anyone talking bad about Mexicans, i was born and raised in Mexico, so they better be ready to go down in flames. Bola de nacos igualados estos...

Why would an Indian based developer make anything different? I know many IT jobs have been exported to people who work for $1 an hour.
But that doesn't mean anything innovative is going to come out of India as far as MMO's go.
I think It's more than possible that we could see some entirely original and innovate creations from India If they get into this genre.
Cell phones games are quite popular over there at the moment, just like in South Korea and Japan.
Save me from this abyss of Hell Serge!
I personally believe the future will be bright and full of wonderful things. I think we will see good games from India if they decide to take that path.
Many sports are played in the world. Among them, World Cup of some games are conducted. If you talk about only soccer / football then you are right but we in india dont play this game much.
If we talk about other sports, we have won world cups and secured high positions in many of them including Cricket, Hockey, Chess, Tennis etc
As far as MMORPGs Development in India is concerned, I dont think developers here will develop a MMORPG in this decade for the following reasons:
1.) Piracy is very much here i.e we can buy pirated games / softwares @ less than 1 $. Then many ppl wont pay for playing for an MMORPG. However, A3 India was a pay to play MMORPG with population of 20,000 players. I never played Ragnarok but it had much more players than A3.
2.) Very high developing and maintaining costs.
3.) We do have talent and brains for developing but most have moved to other countries for a better opportunity.
Now for the gamers here, they had some MMORPGs to try this genre.
1.) Ragnarok India
I never played this game but it was the first ever mmorpg in india.
2.) A3 India
Nice graphics, pay to play, fantasy game. It is closed now but it was so popular that many private servers like A3 mania, A3 elements , TTA3, etc spawned. Noticeably, A3 mania has nearly 10,000 players still.
3.) Cronous India
low graphics, Free2Play, fantasy game.
This game was here for a short duration of nearly 3 months. Due to lack of players it was shut down.
4.) CABAL India
nice graphics, free2play, fantasy game.
This is the latest MMORPG in India. Currently it is suffering from low number of players but this is only because of low advertising. It was having a new episode lauch few days back. I am not sure if it is shut down or not cause the game and its website also is down for some days now.
5.) Legend of Katha
browser based, first MMORPG to be developed in India.
I never played it.
