This question is more for WoW haters, and Anti-WoW-Fanboyz.

I was wondering, what is your favorite thing about WoW?

And by favorite,,, I mean,, Even if you hate everything in the game, what do you hate Least?

Also share your current Favorite MMORPG game that you play. And your Favorite Sub-Genre of MMORPG (Si-Fi,Fantasy,Sandbox,TP,PvP,Solo-Friendly, ext)

My favorite thing about Warcraft was Blackrock Depths.  That was one of the most amazing dungeons I've crawled through in an MMO.  The visuals were great, the dungeon was expansive and had the feel of a giant maze, just like a dungeon should be.  The story behind Blackrock Depths was well done and it was really fun to play though, even if it did sometimes take 10hours to do.

I'm currently playing single player games until Mortal Online comes out.  I have a thing for fantasy sandbox games.

I liked how the game ran well on almost every system even crappy ones and still ran well and looked great.  I was always a fan of blizzards style of cartoonish animation and really liked the look of WOW.

I'm trying really hard to think of even one good feature in WoW.

I would have said Dungeons if CC wasn't phased out of the game or maybe BGs if arena didnt make them worthless.

    Shit........ Sorry dude.

As for the game I play I've officially joined the "Hate all MMOs except Eve online" fanclub.

Favorite genre would be Sci-fi sandbox I guess.

Edit: It's pissing me off that I can't answer your question. Its just WoW is a totally different game now then it was during Pre BC. Everything I enjoyed in WoW has been altered and made worse (for me).

Almost feels like Blizzard pulled a NGE on me.

I am weird. Unlike most other people who dislike WoW, I like the gear grind.

Or rather, I like the ability to find all this extremely rare/valuable/powerful items completely by chance. This is also why I loved Diablo and more recently Borderlands. I love having a randopm chance to find this great gear that is extremely hard to get completely by chance and out of the blue. It's a thrill. I feel pride in running around in a piece of gear that might last me another 5 levels. It's a great feeling. Unfortunately most of this is in the end-game in WoW and I can't get to it very easily. It's too tedious to get to the really fun parts. That's what disappoints me. But finding gear is great, when you can. I think there should be more dropped loot in games. I like it. That's me.

Right now my favorite MMO is probably City of Heros. But the one I play most often is Eve.

I also think Sci-Fi/Sandbox is my favorite genre. But that's just cause I like the look of most sci-fi stuff.

Gear doesn't work that way anymore. Most gear comes off vendors that you use tokens to buy and noone is ever surprised by a drop since everyone knows in full detail the loot table of every raid/dungeon boss.

In WoW you look up the gear you want and you farm that specific content until you get it. No surpises. No WOW! factor on anything.

I agree Diablo was awesome though :)

I'm like you, its very hard to come up with a favorite part of WoW now. The WoW then I did have one favorite, and that was the dungeons - back in the day. I used to love being the hunter puller for the dungeon run, back when that was a viable tactic. You know, the one that set the traps, marked the main target, set the pet on the off tank mob, kited the 2nd off tank mob and fed the team each mob one at a time until you had them all down. Ah but then again that was old school WoW - now its all tank and spank AoE DPS - who cares for CC and tactics to make it thru a dungeon anymore. It was great back then when sheep, imp sap, and imp traps actually had a purpose.

My current games are CoH/CoV - FE - LOTRO. Don't have a genre - anything that lets me play 'my style' is all I care about.

I don't know.. unsubscribing or selling my account. One of those is my favorite part.

Honestly, playing pre-1.9 Paladin and the fact that the game was still an MMORPG back then, was my favorite part.

  • GrrlGrrl Member UncommonPosts: 354

    1) Barbers

    2) Many mount/flyer selections

    3) A big ass world to roam

    4) BLOOD ELVES

    5) Upcoming races; goblins/worgens.. C'mon! Im lookin forward to that.

    6) Achievements

    7) Able to run this game on any kind of machines is a plus.

    8) Blizzard. For the fact that they come up with so much ideas, add events, promotions, and still makes the game successful after all these years. :)

Favorite thing about WoW, also what kept me playing for so long (I'm still subbed), is healing mechanics.

I love healing in the game, with every class, although 95% of the time I played a pally healer.  I even developed a slight reputation even on my server, as a good healer, which in turn allowed me to get in groups as soon as I would log in.  I'm taking a slight break now but I'll be sure to come back in time for new LFG system.

My favorite thing about wow is the non instanced, seamless zones. I hate when new games have to partition their world. Less loading screens means more playing.

"Pre-BC"...sigh, do you people even know what this means or you just copy each other like every WoW hater on this forum? Do you even know how many great features BC brought? Do you even know what a large part of the game was very frustrating(no, not hard, just annoying) in vanilla, how many bugs it had?

BC was harder than vanilla in all aspects, at least in BC raids you didn't have to carry 10 retards that would cast an ability every 15 secons because they were staring at the screen and had no idea what to do. All 25 players had to know what they are doing in BC raids(and you can look at BC boss mechanics for yourself if you don't trust me).

Indeed WOTLK is far more casual, but who cares? Skilled PvPers and PvErs will still have access to the best epics, titles, mounts and they will be well known on the server compared to those people who wipe in heroics.

Favorite of all time = TM/SS battles.

Favorite currently = Ganking lowbies. I know WoW takes alot of flak for having most of its "important'' PvP done in instances, but the game really does have alot of potential for open World PvP. Most players don't participate because they are gear focused and there are few gear rewards for World PvP.  I'm glad there aren't alot of gear rewards, but I do wish more players would participate.

For me it is the multiple options of things to do when I log in. If I want to level, raid, craft, farm materials, PVP, or just chat with friends I can. I enjoy crafting the most. I can log in and set out to get materials for what ever I am interested in.

Bleh, your rewards are shallow and material. Your boss fights are difficult only for the sake of being difficult. Some people don't like to jump through hoops every 10 seconds just to win a fight. I like the big old mindless raids better because they were more about being social than being an elite action player. BC can suck a fart out of my ass.

Well here's something I am really glad I avoid now that I play EVE, egotism about peoples "skill"  and gear in playing a game.

I can only speak to Pre-BC because I quit before it came out since it brought more of the same. (higher level gear, more levels, more meaningless pvp)  Wasn't a direction I cared to go.

But I did enjoy leveling up characters and how they all played a bit differently on each pass through.  Of course, after I had about five 60's and had played on both horde and alliance the magic wore off.

Hmm, and what rewards you'd expect? Have your name written on a structure with a huge font: "CONTROLLED BY PALEBANE"? That's just as e-peenish as titles, uber gear and ladders. And move? Yeah, on some bosses, but one of the hardest bosses, M'uru, was more like tank-and-spank with adds that tested your reaction timers more than bunny hopping around so it isn't everything about jumping.

And social? You'd be amazed how it actually was, when officers were raging because there aren't enough people and some people said they come to <X> raid and they didn't come at all. Then when they'd come online everyone started raging on them and everything was pretty chaotic. Just like the fabled epic Tarren Mill Southshore battles which were funny for max 1 hour, then people would get bored, some of them would hearthstone, some rogues would just camp the graveyards and corpses, etc.

If only, Vanilla was as cool as people on this forum are trying to say...

And Kyleran, that's as much as you can do with WoW's model...you can't really start changing WoW into something else that was designed and planned to be.

  • theAsnatheAsna Member UncommonPosts: 324

    1) The big "seamless" world (quite a lot to discover, e.g. sunken ships, mountain passes, etc.)

    2) All the dungeons on the way up to level cap. (Sadly with time it was more and more about quest grinding up to level cap and then to start doing dungeons for specific loot)

An interesting thread. After 30min of thought, I'm still struggling with this one, trying to deliver a substantial post. *Current* WoW...

I could provide many examples why vanilla was the best era of WoW, or redeeming qualities of BC, but current WoW... this is difficult. I'm trying to come up with something that has no obvious negative kickback.

Updated graphics? I never minded the cartoony graphics as they fit the franchise name, and definiately were 'fun'. But updated graphics was nice. It's close to meaningless, because of the aforementioned, however.

Something really solid, that wasn't present in 1.0/2.0 or was present but better then. WoW is attempting to return to its lore? The devs realized they were chasing content in BC, rather than staying 'true' to the franchise, and are trying to 'involve' key NPCs to make things feel more epic again. So that is a good intention from devs. Gameplaywise, I am coming up with blanks.

That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.
So - Stand up, pull up your pants, and walk away.

PvP: 10+hour AV battles. Where you can log, eat dinner with the wife, and still enter the same AV battle hours later.

TM/SS battles before pvp ranking came out. WSG/AB premade battles before Battlegroups ruined server community.

Raiding: My first time fighting Rags. The camaraderie with guild friends on vent while raiding early BC stuff like Kara. The joy of first guild kills with friends.

Questing: Some long and epic quests like the zelda quest in Un'goro. Wraithgate quest in WOTLK. Find treasure maps in Tanaris and looking for X.

Exploring: Fidning the dancing troll village. Finding old SW. Finding the landing strip above Ironforge. Exlporing Caverns of Time before BC. And lots of other stuff.

Gameplay: The best Melee gameplay mechanics in the MMO business. (gnome rogue from the start!)

While I enjoyed all that stuff, the WoW of today is a much different place for me. Knowing every corner of the game world, every quest, and raiding in 95% of the raids, WoW today is boring :(

But I had an amazing time while it lasted. Now to wait for WoWv2, not cata.

This. Also the population. With a population that large you always could find someone to run an instance with (depending on your server of course) and you always met some interesting people.
