Why the sudden hype?

Hmm.... I am kinda wondering where this hype is coming from? I know I am hyped for Earthrise and really can't wait for it to come out. However I hate for people to hype just to hype and not knowing anything about the game. What is attracting you to Earthrise or what you like most about Earthrise?

Get some interesting conversation going on in this forum. Trolls are welcomed of course!

Well, between the new Twitters, questions of the week that actually have real info, and Community Consensus forum topics the devs are giving out a bit more info than usual. Plus, both mmorpg.com and massively(massively a bit more so), post stories about Earthrise fairly frequently. Anytime more info is released on a game in development, gamers grab onto it and start discussing.

I don't know what you talking about massively having more stories and all that than MMORPG.com. Seems like to me mmorpg.com has been getting a lot of the exclusives and devs blogs. Also all the screenshots lately have been coming out of MMORPG.com.

I hardly seeing any discussion going on in any othe site about Earthrise let alone the main forums. So I am kinda confused why people do not talk about Earthrise more if more and more people are grabbing onto it..

Many ppl were put off by the lousy animations and boring combat system that was shown in the videos they released, so they decided to listen to the community and improve it before releasing the game. Theyare even redoing the combat system completely to become more fast paced and action oriented, while still being an RPG. (Mass Effect combat system? Omg... WIN!)

They have also said that the animations will be even better than the rest of the game, which can only meen we will see some really impressive animations. At least we can hope that. The graphics look great, so it would be sad to see it all down the drain because of horrible animations.

It looks like this game will be more polished than anything released in a long time. But only time will tell...

(Quote feature is being weird to me.)

@Joker: What I mean by that is that Massive just has more stories plain and simple. They often release stories about the QotW.

@Securiion: Telling me and Joker about the combat changes is like telling a Wow fanboy who Arthas is. Those changes were announced weeks ago, I gathered that Joker was wondering why there was so much hype lately. And, to be honest, activity has picked up slightly, but I wouldn't call it that much hype. There are still periods of days where no discussion happens on this board.

    Who is Arthas? LOL

But, I mean the hype picked up by .10 or so. That is kinda hard to do with the amount of votes that Earthrise has already locked in. I mean that is like at least 5-10 people. WHERE ARE THESE PEOPLE! Why no talkie?!

Hmm.... I really wondering when they will release their next video. I mean it can't be that far off since we had a vote of what the community would like to see next. They must have put that up there for a reason.... That video better be freaken GREAT or else Earthrise will suffer.

Earthrise is the last straw for me.

If this game doesnt deliver Im leaving the genre for good.

Been playing Eve for years, Ryzom is fun and DF/FE needs time.

I really just hate the way the genre is going so ER is my last shot.

If this game releases like DF or FE im gone.

I'm getting too old to follow the hype of mmos for 5-6 years each.

Doesnt help that games like WoW and now Aion are leading the genre.

Lets hope Earthrise is an awesome game with minimal issues and enough content.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

Yes that is very true and I am with you on the same boat. If Earthrise does not work out for me, I will simply drop mmo's all together as I really can't stand fantasy games. I also want a game that no longer uses lvls and is instead skilled based.

However, this was not really what I was looking for, I was really looking for what parts of Earthrise interests you. Is it the territorial warfare? That it is skill based instead of lvl based? That it is full loot unless you insure you items? How the faction system works out? The lore? How you can craft everything that you see and that all items will be for the most part player created (well the really uber gear will)? The list can go on if I wanted to keep on asking questions but that would just be silly. Essentially what is getting you excited about this game and creating hype for this game. Is what I am asking.

Personally, I like how the game seems to cater to everyone. How you can choose the level of risk.

THis is one of the reasons I like Eve so much.

In Earthrise If I want to minimize risk and be more of a pve guy I can, If I want to get into FFA pvp and territorial warfare I can.

It gives me the option to do what I want something a Game like DF (even though I enjoy it) Doesn't do.

I've been saying this for a while, If your going to do a sandbox/skillbased game, Nothing should feel forced on the player. We should have options on how we want to play.

The game shouldn't be about freedom of character development only, I should also have the freedom to choose my gameplay style and feature set without pvp or pve shoved in my face and ER seems to be doing this from what I've read.

As for my favorite features I'm looking forward to the skill system, sci-fi setting and crafting.

Well, as far as I read it you'll need to do PvE to some extend it seems.

Gaining skillpoints will only be possible by doing PvE and the designs and technologie-blueprints needed for crafting will only be obtainable in the LP-store.

So PvE is mandatory unlinke in EvE Online, where you train up your skills without ever logging in becides for switching your skills, and crafting isn't possible by simply buying every material needed from the market.

From what I read missions and roaming boss mobs will be the pve content. Since I plan on being more of a pver and crafter guy at the start then im ok.

once I get good skills and am able to craft nice stuff ill be worth more and ill join an alliance in the game.

Metalhead, you might want to wait until CCP releases that World of Darkness MMO they're working on (in incredible secrecy, it seems) before you decide to leave the genre. As an EVE player, I'm sure you can appreciate that if any company is almost a sure bet to release a new complex, difficult sandbox game, CCP is it. I played EVE for a couple of years and moved on, but it's the only MMORPG I've played in my life which, even after I left it, I still believe is truly excellent and speak highly of to anyone who asks.

I haven't played any MMORPGs in almost two years, and if I don't find something at least remotely like EVE, UO or SWG in the next year or two, I will also be abandoning the genre permanently. This industry is getting ridiculous with all the shovelware fantasy theme park games it produces.

And I 100% agree with you about the 5-6 years of hype, that too is getting completely ridiculous. That's like 8% of my entire bloody lifetime. It's too bad Earthrise probably won't come until halfway through 2010, but I pretty much expected it to be pushed back. They always are.

    Currently Playing: EVE Online
Retired From: UO, FFXI, AO, SWG, Ryzom, GW, WoW, WAR

You know as much as I agree with you that it is too bad that there has not been an official date to the release of Earthrise. I however agree with Masthead Studios on keep on working on Earthrise. Last year and early this year there were a string of very poor released games. I am hoping for a smooth launch and I am also hoping for Earthrise to be able to compete with all the new upcoming games.

There is, you the people have to ask them. They come out weekly with the QOTW. As for news, what more do you want? The only things missing is new gameplay videos and also an exact release date. They are very active when it comes to GDC or gaming conventions. They have been to all the GDC from my knowledge. Sadly there is not anymore.
