What Age of Conan needs to be great!

I just resubscribed to AoC, for like the fifth time (that's just the way i play mmos I never left because I thought the game was bad or had major problems).  I think that AoC is doing well despite losing subs and all the bad hype going around and I believe this game will be around for many years to come.

In the time that I have played AoC I have never reached to far into the higher levels(highest I've got is 46), but again that is just the way i play.  So I can't comment on any of the issues i've heard about concerning those lvls such as lack of content, broken sieges and such.  But I have noticed two things that could make this game soooo much better if Funcom fixed them.

It seems that adding in much, much, much more voice acting beyond tortage would be a very welcome addition to the game and the other thing is adding in more variety in armor and weapons.  It seems that from lvl 10-40 the appearance of my gear never changed ( and neither did the stats really, i kept many pieces of armor for 10 lvls or more).  I know that this is to make combat determined by skill and not gear but i think that this is kind of extreme.  Now I haven't played the game consistently so I don't know if any changes have been made to armor or other items recently, so please correct me if I changes have been made.

If these two things are addressed I would consider them a BIG improvement to the game.

What do you think needs to be done to get AoC back on track?

I don't get this they should add more voice acting to the game. I guess some possible reasons is most people don't make alts? I don't know. I don't mind the voice acting, but if I'm running an alt through the same quests later I'm skipping all of it and clicking as fast as I can since I know the story.

This has me worried about the new star wars game being all voiced. Just my opinion.

Do you make a lot of alts Bagguns?

great question, I love it because it is an opportunity to post a positive post instead of just ranting!

So, after playing the game steadily for more than one year on the European's most populated PvP server (and no other servers), and playing most classes "a little" and Demo, Necro, Sin, Barb, and now Pom quite a bit more, here is what I think could improve the game :

    - balance classes

This is a serious issue that has caused many players I know to leave the game out of sheer frustration because they WANTED to play a melee class, they invested time into that class, they learned to master it, however they get pwned by newbies who play OP classes or happen to have a group setup that is OP. It is especially true for minigames but also for world pvp and sieges.

    also, nerf cc

Why should players be forced to play heal and caster classes?

    - fix how the game runs

(fps) DX10 needs to be optimised. I have a pretty high end PC that is less than 1 year old and a good video card, but if I want to do any kind of PvP, I must play in DX9 with low settings otherwise my FPS is just too low.

(crashes) Other thing to fix are the crashes, whether from doing alt tab or doing a BK or zoning

(lag) Also in certain situations, you may encounter severe lag. Some say it is because people are using lag generators. Others say Funcom had to downgrade the servers in its effort to cut costs.

This is most severe in BK fights or on rest of server during BK fight, but also happens any time to big forces meet in a pvp fight.

However, there was a patch today which might have resolved some of these issues.

    - bring content faster (pvp and pve)

We are expecting a patch in a few weeks, maybe more, which should bring content (T3 for pve and PvP towers), but we've been waiting for that for months ! There is not much to do really once you've hit level 80.

    - fix the pvp XP system so that it does not encourage a gank festival at lower levels

I was against fixing this at first because I relaly enjoyed pvp on tortrage due to different class balance, shorter combos, faster action, less guards and different map. People have managed to convince me however that this can have a very negative impact on newcomers.

It's not so much the pvp fighting that is the problem in itself, it is the guys that make groups and actively seek out questers to repeatdly gank them

    - improve the pvp rewards

Right now, most people who want to optimise their gear for PvP combat spend most of their time in raid dungeons trying to gear up. This is ironic considering that PvP xp eventually gives PvP rewards.... these rewards should be more rewarding (even if only for pvp)

    - improve the scripting system for chat

First of all, it's not very intuitive, but lets forget that. The main problem is that the amound of information you can publish in a given channel is dependent on the amount of people subscribed to that channel. So if Global has many people reading it, you will not be able to use a script that has a lot of information in it. However, in the mornings, or at times when there are less people, you can write more. Sometimes, there are so many people reading global that the only thing your script can include is the website of your guild !

This forces many people to simply use a coloured text instead of a link that opens a window with more information etc. Whichi is kind of silly IMO...

    - improve ergonomy of emoticons and macros

they are just not  very intuitive

    - fix the damn bugs

at the moment, there are bugs like you being naked even though you have your gear on.

It means the system thinks you are naked, though you think you got your gear on, so bosses hit you hard, what kind of a crazy bug is that?

No need to go through all the bugs, but there are still many out there, fix them !

    - Improve the trader

it's not very ergonomic at all, no need to write a wall of text to explain why

    - give meaning to crafting etc and help develop an ingame economy

at the moment, there hardly is an ingame economy

    - enforce official rules

for instance, it is considered an exploit to hide your BK. However, when guilds do that and get reported, nothing happens...

    - make sure cheating and exploiting is kept to a minimum

    no comment

    - increase the amount of people who can play in one instance before a new one is created

I think it is good to have 2 instances running, so guys can get away from griefers, but if you make a new instance any time there are more than 10 people, you will hardly ever get any interesting fights..

edit --> things I forgot + change in colour on request ^^

    - allow server transfers

    - do something about mounted combat

    - fix the way pots work and cost

    - fix stamina issues (currently a character with a small stamina pool is at an advantage over a character with a big one, so casters > rogues)

    - increase amount of storage

    - fix murder system that allows lowbies to attack higher levels in groups while giving Murder Points to higher level if he attacks back.

Make Crafting results differ from those drops, Give the option to change the look of the armor. Pretty much what Aion atm has actually.

oh btw SirPaco  can you not use that blue please, its hard to read on black background.

    - Performance. Mostly resolved but the engine should scale better on a variety of machines.

    - Content. Leveling is fine, its the level 80's that need more to do.

    - Crafting. Basic system which does hold a decent economy, but it could be better devolped.

    - PVP. Minigames and zergs get boring. They should revamp the minigame system, along with the planned border kingdoms revamp.

    - Itemisation. Needs more armor sets and more diversity in the Raid armors.

I think these are the main issues for me, but the dev team really are doing a decent job...looking forward to seeing the 1.06 patch roll out.

At least 5 more level 80 zones, about 4 new raid instances containing 5-10 bosses, more mini games with various mechanics and rules, revamped sieges, etc. etc. For Age of Conan to be great it needs to negate itself.

First off, the answer to your question is no I do not make a lot of alts.

Voice acting gives you a reason to listen to the npc, it makes you feel more involved with what is going on and makes you feel more like you are actually doing something.  The second time through if you want to skip through fine, but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it the first time.  But really are you going to say that once you have played through the game once, even a couple times for that matter, you experienced every little bit of the questing content, know exactly what the npc is going to say?  This kind of thinking is a problem with mmos if you ask me.  It's becoming all about the end game and not about the journey.

Why do single player rpgs, such as fallout 3 or oblivion, do so great?  Not just voice acting (which is done throughout), throughout the whole game you aren't thinking of reaching the end of the game at all, your just concerned with what you are doing at the moment and what you will do next.

In my opinion Tortage is good enough quality to be released as a single player rpg (not talking of the length of it, just quality).  If the whole game where like that from the start AoC would be one of the top mmos out today, which I think it is right now.  Another reason why people should come to the game or come back to the game is that , despite other problems, Funcom has proven that they can make this game great, they just need the time and your support.

    Bagguns,

Once I have played beyond a certain point (usually at the middle life of my second character), I simply "esc" all the conversations, and click randomly the quest conversation and options.

I want to get my quests done ASAP.

But that's just me of course :)
