SWG is about as dead as dead can be short of having the final act of mercy done - actually pulling the plug. I think TOR will put it out of its misery soon enough for it to be the next mmo to shut down.

I read somewhere that Sony wants SWG and SWTOR to coexist. Guess they could coexist in the same way a cut of beef would with a hungry white shark.

I read that SOE was making a Clone Wars MMO, so I have a feeling that somewhere down the line if SWG hits some new low (some population number that SOE has in mind) that SWG will be shut down, leaving just the Clone Wars MMO and the TOR MMO running (as I am sure the Clone Wars MMO will be aimed more at a younger playerbase).
Then again SWG might live on another 5-10 years before its finally axed.

Muahaha Coexist like one is on volunteer Life Support because they are too pig stubborn to realize that they made an epic fail years ago - then yes they will coexist.
An SOE game, soon they have to many mmorpgs up and running now and all of them are dead or near death with the exception of maybe EQ/EQ2 they have a some what alright player base to keep it alive.
Ima go with either SWG or POTBS.
SWG should have been shut down months ago. The game has such a horrible rep and dismal player base. I guess they really are just completely stubborn. I mean TR was in better shape and it got shut down.
Lineage 2 might get shut down soon too. Although I think even that is doing better than SWG at this point. To be fair though I really want SWG to die. Right now it's like looking a three legged dog with mange, a chewed-up ear and a missing eye. The thing is only kept alive because it's owner is too stubborn to give the poor thing so relief. And SWG isn't even endearing like such a dog might be seen as. At least with the dog it could still be an energetic thing that makes everybody smile at how tough it is.
SWG is just plain sad. It needs to be put down for the good of the industry and for the good of the entire Star Wars franchise.
It needs to be put down so SW: ToR doesn't have a retarded, flipper-baby cousin hanging off its shoulder. How Lucas Arts hasn't pulled the license to keep running the freaking thing is beyond me.
In terms of MMO's that people have actually heard of its a tough one to call. Older games like SWG are certainly more prone to closure however SOE have a generally decent track-record at keeping titles running even when they're not a huge commercial success such as Vanguard and Planetside (ignoring Matrix which must have had super low numbers).
I do feel that Warhammer Online is at a huge huge risk of going. With EA at the helm and the fantasty-mmo market being hugely competitive it's subscription numbers are falling rapidly, and with desperate attempts being made to rekindle interest it seems all of them are falling on deaf ears.
I honestly think in the near future Champions Online will shut down. By near future I'm talking a year and a half to 2 years (relatively short in MMO's lifespans). Their numbers are clearly taking huge hits with them having multiple free weekends already, officially dropping the retail price and publishing the old 'number of characters created' statistics rather than actual subscriber numbers, which generally means a developer is trying to 'pretty-up' the stats which realistically look bleak. Especially considering all this is going on when the game is literally just over 2 months old - that is not a good sign at all. Not to mention the fact that Cryptic have imo bitten off far too much than they can chew releasing 2 big MMO's within around 6 months of each other, not even any of the bigger companies would attempt that - and I honestly feel both games will suffer for it sadly.
By no means do I have any personal hate towards any of the above titles. It's always sad to see any MMO's close, but these are just my opinions and guesses based on some 'goings-on' in the industry.
This thread is funny, lots of wishful thinking from disgruntled ex-player of such games
My guess is one of the low populated SOE games, like PotBS or Vanguard. They got 2 games launching next year, with more coming up, they can't keep staffing for games with very low population.
I keep thinking to my head... "Did the OP put magic marker text on the thread title that actually turns to "Place ya beta! Next mmo YOU WANT to shut down" When you put on special glasses?
If that's not true, then alot of idiots who can't distinguish between personal opinion and what is actually realistic are missusing the thread. When you think Aion will be the next MMO to shut down, something it wrong with you. I don't care how much you hate the game, theres no chance in hell it would shut down anytime soon. That's what we call a "Losing bet"

PotBS isn't an SOE game, nor do they provide any staff for it. FLS owns and operates it, SOE just does the billing. Because of that I don't think PotBS will be leaving anytime soon as FLS didn't have to go outside the company for any money to design or run it.
To be honest, there are so many thousands of MMOs out there and only a few major ones have ever actually closed down - it's a relatively small percentage. I think none of the games that people have mentioned are in a position where they're likely to just leave, except maybe some of the struggling SOE games. You have to be severely hemhoraging money to not break even month to month.
Conan and LOTRO are both out of companies that are not known for pulling the plug quickly, going free to play with item shops and other such deals with their previously in danger games so they're relatively safe. I can see WAR doing the same as they've already made a never-ending trial for Tier 1 to get more players in the game world, which in turn makes the paying players able to enjoy the game more - in that tier anyway. Perhaps they could extend it somewhat.
Aion by all accounts is doing extremely well financially, and Alganon is too soon to really know anything about.
I'll say FF11 after the new FF14 mmo comes out. Personally though FF11 is one of the last "TRUE" mmo's on the market that isin't easy mode, and that actually needs the community to get stuff done in game. In terms of other games, I still have a Retail Warhammer online cd-key i've never used because I thought the game was crap during the early access.. Never did bother using my retail key to sub.
lol get real lotro is proberbly the healthiest pay 2 play fantasy mmo in the western market outside of warcraft . Aion worldwide is the second most popular fantasy mmo outside of warcraft and has millions of players worldwide inspite of everything thats said in these forums the servers in Europe at least are still busy and no amount of trolling online appears to be changing that . Age of Conan and Warhammer do appear to be faultering somewhat but i think before they close thier doors you ll see some sort of free to pay system tried first . So we have to look a little further afield to the likes of star wars galaxies or vanguard saga of heroes but given they are part of the station access pass maybe they will survive longer than we d expect
my money is on one of the smaller mmos something like darkfall
First off, I agree with the comment above about changing the name of this thread to "List the MMO you hate". The only way for this to work is to put prejudice aside.
My opinion is that AoC will be closed with in a year, this is unfortunate since it is a pretty good MMO. With the closing of AoC and the current economy Funcom may have to close there doors thus ending AO. I feel that unless the economy improves any big name high cost MMO closing could spell doom for a company.
Next is WAR. Warhammer online simple cannot stay open in its current state. Once it closes I fell EA will close Mythic along with DAoC and maybe even UO.
Various minor MMOs will probably be closing soon, Fallen earth is the first to come to mind.
Now remember this is realyy just speculation. Had this thread run 6 or more months ago I am sure DDO would have been on it.
Also any SOE game will not be closing with in the next year, SOE has a habit of keeping games around longer then it should. Look how long it took to close Matrix online. But maybe the economy will cull the herd, not just for SOE but for the market in general.
Only time will really tell.

Alganon, soon after it's release. With any luck it will not make it to release and we won't have to continue to listen to the Alganon community say how nothing matters except that we all believe in the game...

I don't see this game getting more than 1k subs
hope they're ready to make it f2p in the first week
Hehe, Alganon is getting so much hate so yeh its very possible they wont last long at all lol

Going with a longshot, but Star Wars: The Old Republic will be next!

Easy Star Wars Galaxies. As soon as they realize 9.99 for their game isnt going to save them.
I personally love age of conan but i think it's time is coming soon
If only we could sacrifice john smedly into a volcano to stave off any game's demise :P

One of the hundred or so MMO's on this site iv'e never bothered to look at and wont even realise its gone when it collapses.
I have no clue, since I don't play that many MMOs that would be considered a failure.
I will go with WAR or SWG, though.
Although i hate to say it i would have to go with either war or any other SOE game.
EDIT: Ah i almost forgot about alganon, ye i would bet real money on it shutting down or going f2p.

SWG (pre-cu) - AoC (pre-f2p) - PotBS (pre-boarder) - DDO - LotRO (pre-f2p) - STO (pre-f2p) - GnH (beta tester) - SWTOR - Neverwinter

surprised that every second answer is not Darkfall (and of course it aint, being the best mmorpg made in the last century and all-har har har)
