I doubt anyone here posting that this game will die and this one also, isnt really playing any of those atm. Most of these opinions are based on "I read the forums" and especially these forums are very reliable... This is a stupid thread!
For some, why do you think AOC will die? Why would game as that good just vanish? Theres expansion coming and the game is better than ever. My server Fury aint ghost either, today I got sick amount of players at lvl 60 doing pvp and got full group for questing in minutes...go play and see for yourself
I am amazed every time I encounter somebody I find that says EVE is fun. I wonder if perhaps they were the kids offering to do the other kids' math homework in school, years ago, for the "fun" of it...
EvE is innovative. Innovative =/= fun. They need to take what was done in EvE and make it a little less of an interactive movie and a little more of an actual game.
Isn't that a bit like abstract-artists going, "Well, this painting of the Mona Lisa with me peeing on it is innovative and new, thus, it is important art..."
It's like... no... my 4 year old can come up with an "innovative" finger-painting but that doesn't mean it is artistic.
Some people seem to love EVE though so - whatever. To me it seemed like a lot of office work, just transferred to a game setting. When I played it I thought it was a joke - like EVE was some person's idea of a fun way to get boring work nobody wanted to do "done" by pretending it was a "game..."
Like when you tell your pre-schoolers to play "let's clean the bedroom!"
I know EVE has its subs and people who love it. I just don't get them.

I pay for and play both AOC and DDO right now as well as starting WARs free to play tier 1 trial thingy.
WAR and AOC are good to great games that. The problem arent the MMOs, its all the other things that go into the MMOs. Look at Tabula Rasa. This game had some great aspects but not enough to make NCSoft want to keep it around. The same could be said for AOC and WAR.
In the end who knows? Either game could become "Game of the Year 2010".

Also who ever mentioned EA would close all of Mythics games has no idea what they are talking about. ......
I stated that EA would close all of Mythic games. What makes you think they won't? Where is your proof that EA wouldn't close Mythic and drop all their MMOs if they thought it was a wise business decision?
EA sports produces one game and sells hundred of thousands of units and make a load of cash, do think they will cut out making another Madden to save money or close down the basement where they keep all the MMO devs?
Besides, why so serious? This is just an exercise, a mental game. Nothing said here is going to happen. Some company will probably develope the MSORPG (Massive Single Player Online Role Playing Game) and then WoW will have to close its servers for lack of interest.
I don't think you realize that Mythic owns UO, DAoC and the other titles but is partnered with EA on WAR >_> . I would love to see your proof of how EA would take those games which are doing well and shut them down with out Mythic saying anything about it. I'm really shocked that the mmorpg.com community is like this even though the editors constantly throw articles trying to stop people from thinking this way and view all the major business steps and facts about all these MMO's.
I realize many things. I express many opinions, just like everyone else on this forum.
If you feel the need to try and change the over all attitude of the forum then more power to you.
I'm not trying to bring a civil war among the internet I was just stating that I thought MMORPG had a community who knew better. I appreciate that you are giving your opinion and I replied back with mines. It's starting to feel like your upset that I made a post that is disagreeing with what you said.
If I'm so wrong then please give me referral links to your info that backs up your opinions that will show me that I'm wrong. Instead of just confronting me about being "so serious" or that I'm trying to start a revolution why not just confront me on the main topic of this thread. I apologize for offending you in saying that you have no idea what you're talking about but what you said was very very extreme and I'm sure there are more people who will disagree then agree with you. With your logic about EA saying that it owns every inch of WAR and that EA is known for shutting games down for no reason then WAR would be shutting down a long time ago. DAoC would have been shut down a year earlier and UO. Yet they are still there AND EA is teaming with BioWare who is developing SWTOR as well as using some of the resources from BioWare team to aid WAR team.
Some one mentioned thread should be renamed to games people dislike the most because from it looks like people who are posting most of these games which are well known through out the MMORPG community are either not playing the game anymore or have some resentment towards the game.

It was a chore, and a boring, monotonous, and imho unrewarding chore and at that. As I've said before, and will say agsin, while playing the EvE trial, I actually (in different play sessions) found time to do things such as take a shower, cook dinner and do homework with minimal input from myself during the course of it.

That makes no sense. You say the games suck but are great but suck because of some mysterious force that will make the companies shut them down and then you say that games are potential candidates for 2010 GotY. Tabula Rasa was bad from day 1 and the whole concept of it was just planned out wrong. Like I've mentioned already and the fact that you are playing AOC ,DDO and WAR just shows you that they are doing some thing right. The problem with WAR is that there is Warcraft. WAR gives no reason why people should choose that over WOW. WoW has better PVE raids/dungeons, better PVP/Battlegrounds. WARs graphics are not even that good. Lets face it WOW dominiates war in every way.
For the record I don't believe WAR is on the "shut down" list at all. However...Who thinks the game would have done/been better if they had built it upon the Warhammer 40k universe instead?

I wish the esteemed Lord British would get the rights to it already so he can re-open it...oh and maybe fix a few things with it. =]

THQ and Vigil Games are developing Warhammer 40k MMORPG estimated to be released in 2012 but we all know how companies are with release dates :P so we'll probably be getting it in 2013 at the latest but if you look around theres lots of info on the game. It was announced in August or July a month or two before WAR's release. WAR maybe lacking in some areas that WoW has but WoW has been out longer then WAR and have had the time and money to perfect their game. To compare WAR to WoW is like comparing a seed to a tree.
I'm looking forward to watching Alganon fail. That'll likely be the next game to die. That is, if it makes it to launch.
Important facts: 1. Free to Play games are poorly made. 2. Casuals are not all idiots, but idiots call themselves casuals. 3. Great solo and group content are not mutually exclusive, but they suffer when one is shoved into the mold of the other. The same is true of PvP and PvE. 4. Community is more important than you think.
The problem with WAR is that there is Warcraft. WAR gives no reason why people should choose that over WOW. WoW has better PVE raids/dungeons, better PVP/Battlegrounds. WARs graphics are not even that good. Lets face it WOW dominiates war in every way.

I agree about the WAR vs. WOW debate (didn't mean to really cite that portion of the post). That discussion has been beat to death as well.
Yeah, I heard about the THQ/Vigil game and did the happy dance...Now, not so happy because I never put much stock in release dates == the game actually seeing light of day (especially when the date is that far out). Keeping hope alive though.

Whoa there young fella! At no point did I say any game sucks. This thread should not be about a game "sucking" it is about what the future of the industry is and which games will not survive. All MMOs are the best game in the world for someone, doesn't mean that they will be able to survive.
Never said WAR was a bad game, WAR just doesn't have what it takes to continue pulling in long term subs. Will it be able to change this? Of course it can. WAR can make itself into the game many people want to play and go on till 2012, when the world ends
In the end who knows? These are scenarios based on what I see and my opinions. You want proof? Got none. You want links? Sorry. I am going on what could happen, and to my mind will if nothing changes.
Same with AoC and in the end with DDO. DDO's current success could be just a flash in the pan with servers drying up in 6 to 12 months and then Turbine writing it off to spend more time on the next LOTRO expansion.

I think its reasonable to asume that with the launch of Star wars; the old republic, that SoE will have the excuse/reason they have been waiting for to cut their losses on SWG. Most likely it also wont cause too much upset because a number of the players would migrate to Biowares title anyway.
Warhammer looks like another game that may be on the chopping block. However Im not so sure they are going to be able to close shop without a long winding down process. Probably turning the game f2p or something similar. Closing a game down outright, is never a good idea if your company ever want to sell another game title. So I dont think War will dissappear outright.
EVE was mentioned by several posters. Considering the twin title being released next year, and the ambulation plans for the EVE pc client it seems a little premature to put EVE on the chopping block. If the correlation between their shooter game and EVE fails, well maybe they will take a financial hit which could toss things up in the air, but who knows. Currently the game has a sound niche which no other company seems able to infringe on.
WOW... well thats another fun suggestion. The game that brings in billions of dollars to Blizzard/Activision. Why is it they would shut the game down exactly? Getting tired of making all that money? LOL - When they release their next mmo title, WOW gives them an amasing platform to harness players to their new game. Not only can they offer some type of free playtime for current wow players, or trials to wow players or discounts or what have you. But even after they grab the wow player base over to their new mmo, they can keep wow up with a payment plan of a few extra pounds/dollars than the usual 15 for a monthly subscription and thereby keeping players happy with 2 game accounts for the price of a deluxe 1. The options to exploit their current subscribers attention towards getting both their new mmo and wow sustained life are almost endless.
Vanguard is more of a safe bet. The game has had no attention for ages, and the player base is so small its not such a large stone to throw into the pond if they close it down. The ripples that would reach us here, would be merrily accompanied by; About bloody time. I doubt we would be rallyed to the indignant Vanguard players defense in all honesty.
And finally Aion:
Another puzzling suggestion in my opinion. I dont know why so many suggest it will be shut down. I asume those of you who suggest it meant, shut down here in the west, and not the korean/chinese servers who seem to be bringing in a healthy subscription retention.
It is way too early to firmly state anything about Aions success or failure. Those of us who have been around the block a few times, understand the difference between boasting box sales and the subscription retention 3-4 months down the road. But there are many who dont. And when you tell them that the touted success might not be all that set in stone they wont understand your point, and most likely become very agressive - In their defense, it isnt over till the fat lady sings, and that means; till we reach the overall consensus we saw on the AoC and WAR cases where everyone kinda got the point a few months later. Which was; noone was resubbing except the stubborn few who seemed to like the games anyway. If Aion turns into another WAR/AOC then it will be evident in a month or two and I suggest to keep a token reminder of the most avid of doomsayers, and the most excited of fanbois, and repost the funnies later
As to wether Aion would shut down here in the west if they settle around, say 300k subscriptions or even less. I ask you why? Why would they need to shut down? Due to their incredible expenses in customer service? or the community management services..don't you guys think even a 10k sub would be able to pay three or four times the amount than what we currently see in those areas (ok joking aside :P)
No Aion would not shut down even if the subscriptions ended at 100k-300k. They would merge servers and diminish as much as is possible the hardware costs of running the game. But unlike the monster machine that is 5000 employees Blizz, these guys dont need that much green to keep up the present commitment. And that might be what killed/ and saved Aion. Ironically.
though not quite released yet i see alganon going down quickly
swg should go - please
i'm afraid MO is in for a short life
star trek may not crash and burn but would like to see it scratched and started over (new developer of course)
and last but not least i see Ryzom once again leaving the stage - - - wish a company with some money and good devs would pick this game up for a song and run with it
I think Champions Online. Cryptic has ran off most of the population, the only ones left are the 6 monthers/lifers. Once those 6 monthers leave it will be a ghost town.
While I have no clue which (if any) game will be shut down I think that one of the shurest bets is AoC followed (not to closely) by Warhammer. I doubt that War is in that much trouble, but AoC is.
I'll place my bets on Horizions. now called Istaria. I am absolutly amazed that with all of the drama this game has been through that people still play. Absolutly amazing that it hasn't been listed yet. Perhaps people are ashamed to admit they played lol. A lot of people are using the thread to pick games that have no chance of closing soon. Just because a game wasn't fpr you doen not mean that is dying a most horrible death. You may wish it to die but that won't make it so.
Istaria deffinatly won't be the next game to shut down. It went through a time where people weren't allowed to register and subscribers were being charged double for their accounts. It's under new ownership and was just made Vista/Win7 compatable, plus it has a free for life demo account option. It's doing better then it has been for 2 years.

They may not be the greatest games ever but they are good games and they can only get better WAR you have to admit has one of the interactive dev team with the community. Since Closed beta WAR 's devs have been taking feedback from the members to make WAR better and even though it's taking time to release these fixes it's not like we can expect these people to fix our problems with the wave of a wand. If everyone remembers how WAR was like in Closed beta you would see how the game has improved greatly. in CB with the same computer I have no I Was never able to partake in oRvR because of the lag and now I'm able to be their every night with no lag or CTDs.
I loved TR
I wish the esteemed Lord British would get the rights to it already so he can re-open it...oh and maybe fix a few things with it. =]
Check out the MUD I'm making!
For the record I don't believe WAR is on the "shut down" list at all. However...Who thinks the game would have done/been better if they had built it upon the Warhammer 40k universe instead?
THQ and Vigil Games are developing Warhammer 40k MMORPG estimated to be released in 2012 but we all know how companies are with release dates :P so we'll probably be getting it in 2013 at the latest but if you look around theres lots of info on the game. It was announced in August or July a month or two before WAR's release. WAR maybe lacking in some areas that WoW has but WoW has been out longer then WAR and have had the time and money to perfect their game. To compare WAR to WoW is like comparing a seed to a tree.
I say SWG (due to
I'm looking forward to watching Alganon fail. That'll likely be the next game to die. That is, if it makes it to launch.
Important facts:

I say SWG (due toSW:TOR coming out).
That or FFXI as FFIV is coming out.
THAT or Guild Wars as Guild Wars 2 is coming out, also you can transfer apparently your chars from GW to GW2.

""But Coyote, you could learn! You only prefer keyboard and mouse because that's all you've ever known!" You might say right before you hug a rainforest and walk in sandals to your drum circle where you're trying to raise group consciousness of ladybugs or whatever it is you dirty goddamn hippies do when you're not busy smoking pot and smelling bad."
Coyote's Howling: Death of the Computer
WoW in 2012
Alganon, although TBH I'd be slightly surprised if it even made it to release, or stayed open long enough be even have been considered 'released'.
After that, I'd say either SWG or WAR. I think AoC has enough of a cult following based on the lore alone to keep it going for a while yet.
Warhammer...games subs just continue to plumment. Sad.
I think darkfall has just about milked every drop of money it can with more and more bad reviews and complaints coming out.
Indeed, AION, EVE or LOTRO aren't going anymore than WOW is. Nice wishfull thinking but it ain't happening so move along..
Crazy Kids..
Dutchess Zarraa Voltayre
Reborn/Zero Sum/Ancient Legacy/Jagged Legion/Feared/Nuke & Pave.
While I have no clue which (if any) game will be shut down I think that one of the shurest bets is AoC followed (not to closely) by Warhammer. I doubt that War is in that much trouble, but AoC is.
Make games you want to play.

Of the "big" titles, AoC and/or WAR are next.
Of the smaller titles, PotBS def on last leg and so is Vanguard.
