Take whats popular in other games. Be sure to keep graphic quality down so it will run on any walmart computer. Dumb it down to the point a caveman can play it and you have the next big hit from Blizzard. Anyone expecting anything other than what the masses will flock to is going to be disappointed.  Expect easy mode and lots of hand holding.

It will be something like "Free Realms" something for every casual gamer, with player housing, loads of collectable things from pets, mounts ou cars, clothes, beds, tables, and inside that game there will be different games that you can play..with a totally different theme...but all connected to your char that will be your e.peen....games with no e.peen have no playerbase...

All I know is that Starcraft II's codename was Medusa, and this new project is codenamed Hydra.

Apart from that there is absolutely nothing leaked, but perhaps I just haven't found anything yet.

I read somewhere was Activision was thinking of making a Call Of Duty MMO

Thats where the smart money would go, it's the genre that is totally lacking an MMO and Blizzard would be the safest hands to deliver the game to the masses.

However out goes the cartoony graphics and in comes a more grown-up game, however it has an immense fan base so if it is Blizzards secret project they are bound to attract alot of short term players anyway, so initial box sales would set records.

With Activision already saying thay have been working on the MMO for about a year I think it's looking more likely to be CoD as Blizzards new baby.

Nah, it will be sandbox game with DX11-only support, require complex strategies and at least 15 hours/day of playtime for years. A hardcore game for hardcore gamers like yourself.

If I remember correctly, they are basing the new MMO off of a new IP, rather than recycling the current ones.

I just don't see Blizzard being that innovative and start from scratch. They never have. I think they are going to draw inspiration from either Starcraft or Diablo and create a new ip from those existing games.

I think the only thing Blizzard officially said is that the new MMO is not in any way related to Warcraft.  Personally I think a Starcraft MMO would be a great idea as there aren't that many scifi MMO's out there now.

They said earlier this year that it wasn't Starcraft, or any other franchise we know about. It's an entirely new franchise/series.

a Starcraft MMO would not have even close to the same appeal as their other franchises, it's primarily popular in Asia and it didn't do well in the U.S. or Europe. SC also is very weak in lore, and story. A next gen MMO needs to have both.

In all seriousness, I hope they resurect Blackthorne, either as an MMO, or just a single-player TPS. One of the better games made by Blizzard, and the universe was prety unique in itself.

I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

If there is one company that can make sandbox mainstream, its Blizzard.

Sure, they want to compete with themselves.  The biggest share of MMO gamplay has been proven to be Fantasy PVE (with some PVP), and Blizzard has captured this.

However, their product is getting long in the tooth (5 years old now), and they know, and have stated they know, that they might as well cannibalize their own player base before someone else does.  WOW might last a long time, but it will not be a premier game forever.

Just look at how these crap new games come out and have a huge player surge, then die off.  The "surge" part is folks wanting a new game to replace WOW.  The "dying off" part is the games being crap and not up to WOW's quality.  But, when a new quality game comes out, it will seize and retain some noticeable portion of WOW's player base.

My guess is the new MMO is fantasy PVE, a bit more sandboxy than WOW, but not by leaps and bounds, and that it will release after Cataclysm and one more WOW expansion, coming like the cavalry to the rescue as even the last die hard WOW player finally admits to burn out.

They will most likely wait until FFXIV is released so they can get more ideas.

Iv been the one asking about whats blizzards new mmo for awhile now.  Iv read a few articles and chated about it quite  abit.  I was under the impression everyone new that it was going to be a sci fi mmo already??? Thats what Iv been told and have read.  Personally Id like to see another massive themepark game brought out by them with starcraft online being the title.

You could be right.  I saw some internet Youtube video that showed a space station and graphics of a POV entering a planet's atmosphere.  It was "hinted" at being Blizzard's new MMO, but I cannot verify this.

I still think the money is in Fantasy MMO gaming.  Fantasy brings an escape to simpler times, which appeals to many folks living in this fast paced, detail-oriented world.  But Sci-Fi has its followers too.

They have said it will be a brand new intellectual property, so no starcraft online. They have also said it will be revolutionary in design.

Considering my opinion of  Wow. I think their idea of revolutionary game play means completely removing the ilusion of any type of real acheivement or fun. Their next game will be called "Carrot on a Stick Online" You will play a donkey who pulls a water wheel (kinda like the one at the begining of the movie Conan the Barbarian, only with donkeys) round and round to get water up from a well. To motivate you to keep pulling Blizzard will be designing new and better breeds of carrots evey week. Plus they will add a pay service to give your donkey a new look, different colors, spots, longer fetlocks, jaunty little starw hat, etc. Should be massive fun.

A question: When talking about it, did they use the term mmoRPG, or did they just go with MMO?

Yes, it's called "1337 d00d". You start at lvl 100 with tier 80 gear, an epic dragon mount, and 10,000 gold. Every mob is a one hit kill and drops nothing but purple items.
