Ok, when I think of a Post-Apoc world, I think of ppl feeding on others to survive.
I can not think of one single story or movie where the inhabitants of a Post-Apoc world didn't fight against each other and when they won, took everything they could so they would be able to survive better than they were before they won the battle.
So, if you were attracted to a Post-Apoc MMORPG, would you expect the game to have an epic PVP system and some sort of player looting? Or, would you expect a PVE game where people try to reform a utopian society, despite the fact that there are mutants running around from a nuclear fallout and almost everything in the world was out to get you...... but for some reason not other people. :-|
What if I told you there was a group of players that wore human heads on their armor, used blood as warpaint, and decorated their buildings with human bodies and were at war with other player factions in the world?

You forgetting a simple rule only the strong survive, of course if your in a group your stronger than by yourself. Its also human nature to be social.
I don't understand what you're trying to say. Sorry. Can you elaborate please?

I was commenting on this part of your thread, explaining why some people would rather band together than fight each other

Ah. Well that makes sense. But what if in the lore of the game and pretty much the entire focus of it was factions of people banded together that were at war with each other?

I'm mostly a PvE guy because many games fail at creating a balanced and fun PvP system, but that's not to say PvP should/shouldn't be in a post-apoc game. It can go either way. I don't see why it "MUST" or "MUST NOT" be in the game. Post-apoc is just like any other theme, there can be good PvP in it if the devs do it right.
The key is Doing It Right, of course.

Well, part of what you said is what's hurting the MMO genre. No offense to you of course. But, people are thinking about MMOs more as games rather than virtual worlds. In some games, they can be treated as such and be great, like WoW, but in smaller games they really rely on Immersion to keep player bases around. To have immersion, you're going to need to treat the game like a virtual world and not just a game with stuff to do in it. Hence, why many of the themeparks don't pan out the way the developers had planned.

1st of all, a PA MMORPG doesn't have to be hardcore PvP (whatever this means.. are you trying to state a FFA w/ full loot?) and if so, many of this FFA PvP MMO's doesn't carry a large fan base anyways and only a niche crowd of players.
There has to be some PvE even in the most hardcore PvP games out there in this era of mmo gaming we live in (imo).
Of course, I don't think I was claiming that there should be no PVE and the game be soley focused on PVP. Because, you know... Darkfall is doing extremely well! (actually I think it's doing better than the current Post-Apoc game atm )
Hardcore PVP doesn't mean Full Loot FFA PVP. It means PVP with harsh penalties.

For the true, mostly portrayed, post-nuclear, post-war setting, there needs to be PvP, full loot. In an environment where it's all for yourself, kill a man take his stuff, I think it's needed to carry out the full effect of the setting.
I think something like the book 'The Postman' would be great btw :P

I wouldn't expect anything. Any of the available options could be fun, if implemented correctly. From PVP-only to PVP-fullloot to PVE-only, and the settings in between.

Restore the world?
Why?
I like the death.
I like the misery.
I LIKE THIS WORLD!!!
awesome intro monologue.
I'd like to see a world inspired by Mad Max and Interstate '76... driving muscle cars through a ruined world that looks like places out of Cyborg or zombie apocalypse movies.
I would want a Post-Apoc Harcore PVP game if it was made just a Multiplayer Game, for a MMORPG I want it to be more of a virtual world where players are giving choices in how to play, which can be very broad.
FE is at this moment the perfect example of how I like to see it currently. Obviously I wished a A-Tittle company could do it aswell, but FE has allot of potential if they go the same route like CCP did with Eve, that is, grown in time.
I also want to get immersed with the gameworld, meaning I want to act as if I am there, which for me means I do not want to kill the last survivers of this world, but want to build up the world again with who is left, I want to kill the baddes out there, not my own kind, unless obviously they are of the opossing faction or are a treath to my survivel.
From hardcore PvP, first thing that comes to mind are ranked Guild vs Guild/Clan vs Clan/Corp vs Corp matches and tournaments with real-life prizes. Not some full-loot, free for all joke. Ok, the "joke" part is my own opinion. But still... this is not what I expect from "hardcore PvP". On the contrary, I'd consider that casual since it consists of ganking, griefing and zerging without any goal other than ingame. To me it is very laughable when people describe this as "meaniful PvP".

maybe some kind of hybrid of the two?
