Ill agree with that SotN is freaking epic even now.
I continue to play it on my 360.
Other notable games are Metalgear solid and Resident Evil 2.

I did love SoTN but my fav has to be Final Fantasy Tactics. Im prolly alone on that one though lol
Final Fantasy VII. But, oddly, I tried it out again a few months ago, and it just didn't seem that amazing anymore... lol. But back in the day... Oh man.
MGS is the best PS1 game. I still play it every once in awhile, even if halfway through some missions the game crashes cuz my dog thought disc 2 was a chew toy
boy i have lots. Symphony was great. I loved a side scroller called Einhänder. Grand tourismo 2 (i think). XENOGEARS. Legends of Dragoon. FF 7 / 9 / tactics
oh yeah, Legends of Dragoon was another great game. I still love Rose, even though she was ebil.
Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy VII, Star Ocean: The Second Story, Alundra, Motorhead (best game soundtrack ever, imo), Dino Crisis, Wipeout 3, Fear Effect 2, Metal Gear Solid, Tenchu.
Yeah yeah, more than one, but if you can name just one as 'the best' than you just havent played enough games =P
sadly dont own an Xbox so cant play it but I recently played Minifighter
its a bit similar when it comes to gameplay the only diffrence is this it is an MMO game
but Im playing the offline version now haha!

EDIT: How the hell could I forget Tomb Raider (and Tomb Raider 2, which I loved even more)... thanks to those who posted it below for reminding me.

Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy Tactics, Resident Evil 2, hell, I was even known to get down on some Parappa the Rapper lol... All great times from that era.
Tomb Raider and FF7 stand out in my memory. I remember my friend buying a ps1 on release day, and he brought it to my house and we played Battle Arena Toshenden (might be off on that spelling). And it was like the coolest thing we had ever seen... cameras zooming in and out on 3d models... woah!

FF Tactics is a great game with fantastic character customization and replay value, but my absolute #1 is Vagrant Story. What an amazing game. Favourite game on any computer or console, and I have been playing since Pong.

I still prefer PS2 to PS3 even though the graphics are pale in comparison.
PS Edit: Final Fantasy Tactics is one of my favorites, but sadly i've never played it for ps1. I have it on DS, which probably isnt' the same.
Diseage is a lot like FF Tactics also, but it was more focused on randomly generated challenges. Which made them much easier imo.
