I have had my sub for almost a year now. I started out with 1 DVD Unlimited "Watch Instantly" and bumped it up to 3 out at a time after like the first 2 months.
It wasn't too bad at first, I could get any movie I wanted any time I wanted. But here in the last 3 or 4 months, I can't get crap. I have had movies qued on my list since they launched in theaters and yet I keep getting
Very Long Wait
Wtf? I don't want a "Very Long Wait" when I can take my happy ass over to any of the 3 RedBoxes in my very small town and pick it up instantly. If the RedBoxes don't have it, then I can go to one of the 3 Video Rental stores. Especially since my movie has been qued way before most of those people qued it. Some, like Wolveriene, I qued before the movie was ever in theaters.
Well, Harry Potter & Terminator were the last straws. They just came out and I said when they came out if I had a Very Long Wait, then there is no way I'm keeping my sub.
Not to mention, the main reason I got Netflix was because because of the "Watch Instantly". I have a computer hooked up to my TV and it works out great.... except they don't have CRAP on "Watch Instantly" and everything they DO have I've already seen. There wasn't much to begin with. They have a very good movie rating system and it's given me quite a few movies I've never heard of that I've loved. But the thing is, the best rating on "Watch Instantly" that I haven't seen has a 3 star or below rating for my tastes. I have 1512 movies rated right now, so it's pretty accurate.
Anyone else had any similar things with Netflix? I'm prettty sick of it. It's like they hook you in by putting you at the top of the que lists, so you get any movie you want as fast as snail mail can get it to you from in state. But after you've subbed for a few months, they put you way down on the list. Hell, I've had GI Joe and some other stuff for about a month now, because everything I've wanted to watch has been a "Very Long Wait" even after they have been out for a few weeks. UP! is still a "Very Long Wait" and I watched that about 3 weeks ago.
My buddy did the math when he canceled his sub. He figured that if you returned a RedBox on time (the next day) then you can get 4 more movies a month for the money than you can get from RedBox on a 3 DVD out at a time sub. If you can rent that many movies though... my problem is I always forget to return RedBox and I end up paying $10 a movie to rent, lol.

Yes, same thing with us. There's even a name for it. Evidently it's called "throttling" and there was a class action lawsuit over it. The faster you send back your rentals, the slower your service becomes. Netflix denies it, but I think they lost the case. It really is fraudulent advertising, in my opinion. If I remember correctly, when you hit 11 rentals in one month, that's when you run into trouble with them. Sometimes they reroute your deliveries. They even started sending them from a distribution warehouse far away from us in spite of there being one very close by. It's why I stopped using them. After we figured it all out and read the complaints, we canceled. I don't mind waiting for a film on my queue as much as their blatant, diabolical shenanigans.
Yeah I've run into long wait times on new releases with Netflix. During times like that I just check stock availability online with the nearest Blockbuster and go that route.
As for "Watch Instantly", its never going to have anything new around the time it hits shelves. That's pretty much up to the studios to decide, and they're still in the business of selling DVDs and digital downloads via things like Zune Marketplace first and foremost. "Watch Instantly" I've always seen as...as useful as HBO or Cinemax OnDemand. Well a lot more useful really. It's good in that light, but not as a replacement for rental or outright purchase.
Well, I know that the "Watch Instantly" will never be on par with the releases, but it doesn't have crap. Mostly just a whole lot of B and C grade movies that nobody wants to see.
The first 2 on the "New Movies to Watch Instantly" is
American Ninja 1985
Stephen King's The Dead Zone 1983
REALLY? Should they even be advertising those? I guess since they add like 1 movie a week to it, they need to advertise everything they can. There is alot of movies in the world and most have been done by several big name companies. For as big as Netflix got, you'd figure that they would strike deals with them to get at least a decent selection on it.
I have to give netflix something though. They introduced me to "The Fringe" and "Sanctuary" and my wife loves "The Seeker" and they are keeping the latest season of Heroes up to date. We don't watch TV that much. That really doesn't justify $8.99/mo though.
Somebody needs to do something with home theater stuff. More people are starting to hook their TVs to the internet with computers, computerized multimedia centers, XBoxes, and PS3s. Hell, I may just get DirectTV, they have tons of stuff to watch instantly and their DVRs are cheap too.

REDBOX lest you start a FREE online account.
With a online account you can see what DVD is in any REDBOX.You can also RESERVE a dvd in your local redbox as well.
It will hold the DVD for a day or so until you show up and enter your account info and password.
BTW redbox is rolling out BLURAY rentals for a dollar a night too.
NETFLIX is good for tv show rentals like TRUBLOOD because you can rent a whole season as 1 dvd.
What is your physical limit?
I've never had any issues with Netflix, the longest wait I've ever seen was "short wait" and I still got it the day that I sent my dvd's back. On release day even.
Now with 57.3% more flames!
Never subed to Netflix and by the sounds of it I never will.
This RedBox dealy must be a south of the border thing I guess so I'm not familiar with it. Here I got Blockbuster and Rogers Video. I'm up here in Canada... eh? so every time I want to see something on dvd I just go for a 15 minute walk over to either of those 2 rental places and just pick it off the shelf. Rogers Video even has a deal that with new releases if it's not on the shelf when you come to rent it, as in it's all gone, they'll give you it for free next time you come in. The usually tend to stock about 15-20 new releases of whatever. They've even started holding tv shows with entire seasons you can rent out so if I'm up to it I can go find quite a few of them over there.
I really don't see a reason to go to Netflix. Then again I haven't really rented anything in a while so it would be money down the drain.

RedBox is a DVD Rental Vending Machine. They are at almost every McDonalds and Walmart, and other random places. I've seen them in 6 states and they are especially great for the road. You can return any DVD to any Vending Machine, no matter where it's at.
You Canadians are missing out. But, you'll probably get them soon. I saw my first one about 2yrs ago when I was going through OK City. Within a few months, they were EVERYWHERE. I've seen them in MS, AR, CA, NM, AZ, NV, OK, MO, and TX. (Yeah, I've done alot of traveling in the last 2yrs)
I'm def gonna have to sign up for their site. I never really looked at it.

Have netflix, love it... never have any problems. It may be where some of you all live have higher volume of users queing the same movies in your area. Since subbing to netflix I have saved tons of cash. I also watch more instantly and don't sweat the dvd arrival... its like x-mas when the next movie on my que shows up in my mailbox... usually a day or two after I've returned my last movie.
You know, I've noticed that myself over the past 6 months. I've been a Netflix subscriber since they went live but, I'm finding myself waiting a really long time for popular new releases. In fact, we wind up dropping $5.99 just to watch them On Demand via Comcast before it ever goes from "Very Long Wait" to "Now" availability.
I would be ok with this system if there was some rhyme or reason as to who gets a movie first. Is it first come first serve? Tenure as a subscriber? Or just random selections? I suspect the latter.
Anyways.. it sounds like they need to increase their warehouse stock to meet the demand or they're going to start losing subscribers to other up and coming services.
On another note.. when are they going to start getting some more interesting selections in the Watch Instantly section besides these horrible B titles from 20 years ago? Watch Instantly has become my last resort when I can't find anything at all to watch on TV or On Demand. :P
I've had Netflix for 5 years as of the 19th. I have always been happy to have it and have no plans to give it up anytime soon. I have no real issues waiting for the new releases and 90% of my Que list are movies and TV Shows from over a decade ago or longer anyway. I agree the instant watch list could be better, but I always find quite a few things to watch and I realize that they couldn't include their whole inventory for the price I pay.
As far as Redbox is concerned, nothing is worth waiting in line behind the kind of idiots that use these things. Secondly, from what I understand Redbox is having major issues with studios and from what I last read may have to put a fairly long hold on a few of the bigger studio's releases once they first become available for rental.
Yeah, they've been blackballed by Fox, Universal and Warner. They started an online campaign for it: http://www.savelowcostdvds.com/
I've never used Redbox so I don't have an opinion about it, but I really don't like the one-month delay thing those studios are trying to push. If they succeed with Redbox, it sets precedence for 'em to nitpick Netflix and Blockbuster any kind of way to try and prolong the lifespan of direct DVD and Bluray sales.
Wow, I haven't heard about that. What BS.
They do that, I'll just go back to downloading them. $4 to watch a movie is a little expensive when you try to see pretty much every new release A titles and B titles.
That would destroy RedBox.
Edit:
Wow, just watched the interview with the CEO on NBC from that link. He's pretty smart, hopefully he can keep it afloat. But, what a bunch of whiney babies the movie studios are. They are charging $20 for a new release in the store and that's their main complaint, they want to keep selling those. I don't blame them, but $20 is outrageous for a disk with a movie on it. Most of the revenue already came from their theater sales, selling tickets at ALMOST $20 a pop. But at least there, you're getting it on a bigger screen and better sound... plus it's a good night out.

I use netflix on my 360. I love it. My wife likes it for the DVD's and I like it for the watch instantly.
However, we have fairly strange tastes in movies. Which is why I love it.
She likes the new releases.. but pretty much only the horror ones. We don't watch much comedy or anything else unless it just jumps out at us.
I being an independent film maker on the side, love B horror movies. The stupider the better. I know not everyone is like that, but because I love them.. Netflix has a TON of zombie movies I have never seen, and a ton of horror movies in general I haven't seen.. all on instant watch.
I've never had issues with dvds.. but we don't really keep up with new releases.. we just watch what we want.

I have the 4 movies at home subscription, and an old computer hooked up to my tv. I get another DVD in the mail exactly two business days after I send one out. This has never varied. New releases do take a long time to come free usually 2-4 weeks for the more popular ones, but you know what I have 68 movies in my dvd que and 69 movies in my instant que. There is simply not enough time in the day to take full advantage of my netflix subscitiption. I guess I just like too many different movies.
In the summer when my wife is out of school (teacher) it is an absolutely godsend for her. She can catch up on all the series she had to miss during the school year because she had to write lesson plans, or grade papers. In fact I am sure netflix has saved me literally thousands of dollars by keeping her out of the mall more over the summer. With 100K movies to choose from and new ones being added every day I doubt I will ever run out of movies to watch. If you can't seem to come up with enough movies keep an eye on the new release list. There is surely something you would like that did not get a big advertising campaign while in theaters. Basically if you have a wide taste in movies and a little patience netflix rocks.

Never had a single problem with Netflix myself. I've been sub'd for about a year now and get any movie I want on first que. Just got the new Potter movie the day after it came out and it also said very long wait(movie was terrible btw).
I love me some netflix.
I have had short waits and had to wait for them before, that's why I didn't really bother sending it back.
But yeah, I know Harry Potter kinda sucks. I fell asleep in the theater, that's why I got it on Netflix, lol.

Maybe Harry Potter would be a better replacement for your Ambien then that bus simulator game
