Official Press Release from Nexeon: LINK
"Houston, Texas – December 10, 2009 – As part of its commitment to independently developed massively multiplayer games, Nexeon Technologies, a company with a wealth of expertise in game services, server hosting, custom billing solutions, and marketing, is happy to announce a partnership with Castle Thorn Software to help see its current MMO, labeled StarQuest Online, into a new stage of production.
In StarQuest Online, players can assume the persona of a character living, exploring, fighting, and possibly dying in the 23rd Century. As an intrepid Starfleet officer, swashbuckling pirate, devious smuggler, deadly bounty hunter, wealthy merchant, or ordinary civilian, players shape this world and its history into whatever they wish.
There are over 17,000 star systems in StarQuest Online, and approximately 100,000 individual planets. Star positions were taken from Hipparcos satellite data for positional accuracy. Each planet was then created using a stellar dust accretion program based on the mass of each star. There are over 150 non-player character (NPC) races, and many other alien creatures inhabiting these worlds. Players can choose from three unique races when creating their characters. Several different classes of starships are available for players to command, explore, and battle with.

To allow Castle Thorn Software to concentrate solely on game development, Nexeon’s involvement with the title sees that the game is hosted on cutting-edge servers to support a global client base. Nexeon will also market the game and provide a secure billing system, amongst other roles.
“We are very excited to be working cooperatively with Castle Thorn Software on such a unique, feature-filled game,” said Nexeon’s CEO, Charles Wood. “With our proven infrastructure and multiple years of experience in the MMO market, we hope to see the game grow and succeed just as much as the people who made it.”
“Nexeon’s proven track record and commitment to independently developed online games makes them the ideal partner to help us take StarQuest Online to the next level,” said Castle Thorn’s founder, Bardon Thorn. “Our relationship so far has been outstanding and we are very excited to be working with them to bring our first MMO to a wider online audience.”

NTY, dont want another EvE
Basically the only thing in common between EVE and SQO is that its set in the future.
EVE you are a spaceship
SQO you are a character, you can walk on planets and in ships in space, ships have full interiors. Also has player crews, the only MMO to do so.
That statement is wrong.
Why, because in my opinion. Eve online is nothing , I mean nothing Compared to SQO.
SQO , you play as a person, not a ship.
Eve has too much grinding, while in SQO, teamwork and playing with others make it fun.
Don't hate if you haven't tried it.
I'm pretty sure he's not hating it, he is just posting his opinion as it is without further information.
Did you even play both of these games before making a comparison?
You don't have to spend weeks/months training skills to fly ships in StarQuest. You also can explore freely as an avatar, not a ship (ships have consoles you access inside, you have to physically walk up to a console and manually operate controls). There is player housing/colonial management as well.
How is SQO like Eve, aside from sharing the genre of Science Fiction?
Guys, simply ignore that post(er).
It is obvious he's just a troll and as such has no clue what he's posting on or about.
On the news:
Well, i hope that that agreement at least rids the community of the monthly "donation requests", as nothing really indicates that real funds are flowing anywhere.
But already "free" server+bandwidth would hopefully allow CTS to re-think their server+software architecture and develop a more stable and - above all - scalable system to play on.
While i have generally next to no faith in CTS as developers anymore, i still hope that they can now concentrate on making the game as such more stable and - above all - more balanced.
One thing is for sure, they didn't spend a lot of time on the name.
its another of those companies you never hear about because they've never done anything of any value.... starquest online... isnt that something to be embarassed about
I'm a fan of practicality. The name is direct and to the point. When I first heard Star Craft I figured I'd be out doing something with stars but instead it was all terrestrial.... go figure.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
So going by your logic none of the pioneer mmos were never worth playing because nobody knew about their companies.

Ah, ok let me get this striaght. So you took one part EvE one part what STO was supposed to be and they made a game? Wowzers and ge golly i think it sure would be swell to play that game.

If people happen to find this combination fun to play, why would you begrudge them?

... its such a nonentity that its not even worth arguing about tbh..
Haha...
No it is not anything to be embarrassed about.
Since it's been around for longer than STO (which is what i think you are refering to).
Still, what's in a name?
Instead of making such unqualified posts i'd recommend you spend at least just enough time to spare a glance, so you know what you talk about.
You'd perhaps still not like it, but perhaps you would, who knows?
At any rate you'd be enabled to make comments that are... more worth the read than the above!
LOL.
One can think of Allough what one wants, but that quote, despite him explaining that SQO has - besides that both take place in space - nothing to do with EVE, is more than ridiculous.
Also, tbh STO could learn a LOT from SQO.
But no, SQO was there even BEFORE STO.
So if anything STO borrowed from SQO, not the other way around - but that is just as ridiculous as saying SQO is anything like EVE.

Well i never said it wouldn't be. Just when you combine what people want from both genres if done not perfectly, your entire game will die.

having downloaded the game and even tried it.. i dont think im mistaking it for something else.. starquest online is.. i think personally its a game that takes a lot of dedication to like.. the number of flaws i came across in just a few hours of trying to play the game... the graphics . well graphics dont make a game, but the graphics are dated, severely..i would say personally that its a rip of traveller, including the career path generator though its far less detailed obviously.. and i wouldnt have made comments about the game if i hadnt at least tried the game.
Mhm.
Worth a discussion.
Perhaps you'd care to continue the discussion where it belongs?
i.e. in the general discussion of the game itself?
Because while the statement itself is ok enough, it is still wrong since it is based on false assumptions.
And just to be sure i've said it:
SQO has it's own problems and shortcomings.
It is FAR from "perfect".
But to date it still happens THE space-MMO offering the most of what i truly expect from such a game.
It IS a shame - to ME at least - that the Devs are putting emphasis on different things than i'd like to see developed.
That is - the only reason tbh - why i quit and why i say i hate seeing potential wasted.
But do yourself and your credibility as a poster a favor and at least first have a LOOK at it before you comment the way you do.
(not just you but the other 2posters above as well)
I've had my 3 eve online accounts for 5 years, and have played SQO for 3 months.
so i feel i'm qualified to make comparisons.
SQO with eve online's market, financial, graphics and Wardec systems would rock.
EVE online with SQO's navigation(punch in destination system or galactic coords instead of gates), first person depth and combat system would rock.
CCP is working on walking in stations now, imagine being able to walk around on a titan.
with 300 of your friends as crew.
each game has it's good points and it's bad points.
you can't bash eve for being ships instead of people because that's what it is, and with 50k+ online most nights i'd say it's working.
SQO, lets face it. although i think it rocks it still needs a lot of work to be eve online caliber.
I'm hoping that since SQO got a publisher, they will be able to accelerate the new graphics engine.
We are working on building a global market for SQO - I helped theorize it, but EVE rocks in that matter. EVE's economy is excellent. I hope we can come close, because that would allow me to shut down my EVE accounts, but I doubt thats going to happen soon.
Looks pretty interesting....just a few questions though.
How big is the current dev team? How goes development? is it pretty streamlined or do they update regularly? Since they finally got a publisher Im assuming they were able to hire more devs and such.....
I may download it and try it. Always a fan of indie MMOs...
The number of devs is directly related to the monetary income of that month.
There's been 130 updates since launch, its not very smooth - If they receive new funding they've been known to push out three patches in a week. Other times it can take a month for an update.
As soon as the server and billing switch is finished, they are going to increase the manpower on the game. They are also making some updates to the KX graphics engine.
It hasn't been announced exactly what all Nexeon will be doing besides servers, billing, website, and advertising. Anything that Nexeon does means more money for the dev team tho
I just tried to play the game but....
the graphics are fucking horrible. Too bad for me even to TRY to play the game.
I am usually all for gameplay over graphics but this...this is worse then rune scape. I was expected UO type graphics not...not this.
I am baffled.
