So i've been in beta for awhile but due to real life and the general lack of info for newbs i really never played, now open beta has started and i have a little bit of time to play but im still lost after looking at the tutorial. From what i've gathered so far is that the 6 factions work together or hate each other and your sole purpose in the game is to do those random objectives to keep on earning points untill your ranked up. So besides controlling other players in your faction after ranking up through those random objectives is there anything else to do? I played a bit today and i believe there's no NPC's or any mobs to kill at all and most objectives are regarding mining and manufacturing? Am i missing something, please state all other features

--This is not a thread meant to attack the game but to try to figure out what im suppose to be doing in game.

Gabby, I'm not sure if you trust my opinion at this point or not, but as I said in the other thread on these MMORPG.com Face of Mankind forums, the game is literally what you make of it. It's completely unscripted and you're allowed to do whatever you want. I personally love the game, but I could never recommend it to anyone who's dedicated to the roleplay (maybe not every word, but the actions), to watching/listening and learning, and to simply slowly immersing yourself in the world. There's plenty that can be done, but as such, you have to choose your faction carefully. Choose what YOU want to roleplay. Not happy with your choice? Try a different faction. Personally, I play FDC. The military. It's exactly what you'd expect it to be and exactly that with a bunch of newbs that all of us CB guys have to train. Nonetheless, it is what it is. You either make something of it and of yourself, or you don't. There's literally nothing guiding you. Here's what you CAN do to maximize the experience though.

    1. Get Vent and communicate with everyone. It's necessary to at least listen during combat, but getting a mic and getting involved can be fun and as far as I can see, the community is great.

    2. Really get involved in your groups. Don't think of it as mindless objectives, think of it as helping your faction. It's literally all perspective with this one.

    3. Make a role for yourself. The game is in no way in the slightest going to do it for you. You have to. Choose a role and try to make something of it.

    4. Get involved in the politics. It's not always the most interesting thing, but it's interesting to know that you can help influence things.

    5. Bored? Go to Necar's Field and shoot the hell out of some aliens!

And a ton of other things I've gone blank of.

Watch the tutorial video. You should have a shortcut n your desktop after instalation or just play it manualy from FoM instaltion folder.

The game concept is a bit unusual :)

And I forgot to mention, Gabby, that vets of the original CB/OB were my tutorial entirely. xD

This is one of those games I just could not get into.

I tried everything it just wouldn't stick.

Maybe it's due to playing MW2? I just expect more from a shooter now.

The shooter mechanics seem primitive and the graphics would be dated if the game released in 03.

    I tried.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

It's not that they're primitive, it's just they're tailored to be an MMO. It's not just a shooter, it's an MMORPG as well, and as such, it has to be tailored to be treated as such. As a result, I feel combat is just a bit slower, but not lacking intensity.

We've already had a 30 on 30 or so war in Tokyo between the Mercs and FDC. It was epic. Just saying. =]

I hope this game picks up. I actually skipped the tutorial completely and went in there with a friend telling me what to do. We grouped up and did objectives and did some medium light RPing in there as well. You really have to use your imagination with this one, and surprisingly enough I like it.

I think solo players would have a really hard time getting into this one by themselves, because I mean sure, you can do it... But I think your experience is totally going to be hampered by figuring out "Ok wtf do I do."

But already on my first day we had some great adventures... Like throwing a grenade into a crowd of people and then booking it out of New York. Or forcefully asking someone who they're aligned with and then when they don't answer and run away from you, you open fire on them. Or my personal favorite! My friend did a drug deal right under the cops noses (there were like 3 of them there) and afterwards the guy who was receiving the drugs said "AWESOME LOW QUALITY DRUGS!" And it took the cops at least 5-10 minutes to arrest the guy while we walked away free, I mean seriously what the hell? xD

So sure, the game's controls are pretty strange on first encounter, and you may not know wtf to do at first, but it is undeniably fun if you can get yourself into it.

If there was one thing about this game I didn't like, it's that these areas are all instanced. Maybe not the fact that they're instanced, but because they're so small. Even in the bigger areas it feels like walking down narrow corridors... Maybe that's just me. But overall good experience so far

Twiggy, I'm assuming you're Brotherhood/BoS? Lol. Yeah, good ol' reds. Causing us Dominion boys trouble. xD

Oh and the police are always undertrained and generally idiots. You shoulda seen em in CB4, lol. We FDC guys had to order a KoS for any LED that ninja scanned us. It was hilarious.

Then there's the fact that they used to go around stunning the wrong guys all the time and the fact that, like the real police, they ALL swarm over one guy. xD

As far as the areas being small, I can relate. Necar's is a decent size, but yeah, I get your point there. I often feel limited. I also don't like the foreboding music. I'd like there to be at least 2 minutes out of the day I don't feel like any second someone could slit my throat. xD

LOL, sounds about right. Yeah, I knew I forgot something in my previous post! I'm definitely Brotherhood affiliated. I guess we're at war with CMG currently, fuckers keep ordering attacks on us. >:U

The police are absolutely retarded, my friend walked up to a cop and told him that some guy set off a grenade into the crowd earlier and the cop says "Oh yeah, that was me" .... It's like, really? So our attempt to frame it on someone else was totally blundered by his stupidity. Then another instance we had a giant group of cops walk up to us telling us we had to leave the area and we asked why, but they never told us why... And the area was surrounded by four or five fucking forcefields all security locked so we couldn't get out if we tried. They just randomly started chasing us with tazers and then they pulled a gun on my friend and eventually stabbed him to death... I got lucky because some guy opened the forcefield door for me. But yeah, they'll all swarm you if they get a chance.

I went out to Necar's field last night and I didn't like it. It's way too huge and quiet, but even still! Most of the passage ways weren't very wide.

Lol, FDC here. Guess we're enemies then >:] ...well...most of the time lol.

Yeah, as far as police stupidity, you get used to it. Their CTD squad is and always has been terrible. They eventually start doing their job "right" but it's still not done "well." Lol. Shame none of the FDC are up to joking about them at the moment. >.>

And lmao, you're in for a surprise then. Necar's is quiet....until a GM starts f***ing with you and sends aliens on your ass. xD

Necar's is also a popular battleground, from what I recall.

Actually you're very right. We just ended the war with CMG on Necar right now. It was ironic really, I was in the group that captured their CC and they forfeited the war in the middle of a firefight with us.... Odd and kind of a pathetic way to go out but hey, we won. :P

lol, CMG's name should explain that one. xD

Why they were picking on BoS is beyond me.

Thanks alot for the input guys!

It seems like the game is limiting to me, like stated earlier there's only like 10 maps and all are pretty damn small and when the main point is doing objectives in general its gonna get quite grindy. No offense but it seems like one of those facebook games where you can play together and do stuff for a bit but not a real game. But like i always do, ill still keep playing through beta and get a better feel for the game before i write it off.

Hahaha, i remember when i was in a shoot line in fron of some teleporters with more FDC. It was just epic, i should have taken a screenshot.

The tutorial never tells you what your suppose to actually do in game, it just explains npc's, factions and just general things about the game. Thats like saying wow tutorial will tell you that the game is about pvp and hardcore raiding...

Well. After today's assault on Pegasi 51 with the EuroCore and then the raid on their planet CD, and then losing BOTH planets to EC.... Not to mention that the Brotherhood of Shadow's economy was terrible and the leadership poor, I made the switch over to FDC. Haven't gotten into much action yet, but I'm already liking it and I'm sure I'll have more fun tomorrow.

Should hit me up in-game Matthais :)

Lol, I would but at the moment I'm having issues with space on my Windows partition. I need an external harddrive. Then I can install all these games I wanna play and not have this issue. xD

(The partition is only 19 gigs. FoM asks for 4 xD)

Tell me more, I'm EC, but since I can only play at weekends I'm kinda missing the action here! :S

Your faction consists of griefers mostly from what I've seen. Just today I saw one of your members running around NYC yelling how everyone should just amass forces against the FDC and the LED. That and after you guys took P51, I wasn't even able to transfer my shit over in civilian clothes because they thought it was fun to irradiate me with their giant laser guns.

Either way, I have a major grudge against EC at the moment. :U

Aside from that I don't have the scoop on the EC, spent the whole day gearing up in preparation for the FDC. Got mah armors and my 101 course outta the way! Woo

I just tried this game as well tonight and I ended up quitting after about an hour of wandering the empty world(s).  I mean I found people in Tokyo, but all they were doing is standing around doing nothing but I think wait for people to pass through a portal.  I love FPS and the idea behind the game, I just think it's very poorly done.  I need more to do in an MMO than wander around killing random people.  I read earlier they had a 30 vs 30... so?  That's relatively small scale considering I can get the same experience playing Battlefield 2 for the PC since it is 64 players.  Without more to do than look at various terminal types and kill people this game lacks any purpose.

I love sandboxes too, I have played and still love Darkfall.... but I am trying to get off of playing it since it's the type of game you can play for an entire day just to finish one goal, which isn't bad.... but I gotta start getting out more lol

It's an MMO. You can have as many vs as many as possible as long as they all fit in the area you're fighting in. All I was saying was that 30 v 30 in a small hallway is insanely fun. =P

Important to mention here is that friendly fire is possible in FoM :)
