Full list of Pre-order Bonuses revealed

You may have seen these all over the place by now, but here's the list of what each different retailer is offering as a Pre-Order bonus. From what I understand, you can get more than 1 bonus if you preorder each copy of the game, but I will doublecheck that.

GameStop: GameStop customers receive the ability to command the exclusive and always classic USS Enterprise from Star Trek The Original Series. [Note from what I understand, this will be a newbie-tier ship, so you will get it at the start in addition to your newbie ship]

Best Buy: Best Buy is offering their customers a fun in-game pet. As a Federation Captain, players own a famed Tribble of Star Trek lore that will accompany them on their travels into the final frontier. As a Klingon commander, players control the boar-like Targ, a beast found on the Klingon home world of Qo’noS. [I believe this means you only get one of the pets, tribbles only for feds, and targs only for klings]

Amazon: Amazon is offering an exclusive “Liberated Borg” Bridge Officer. This bridge officer, who comes with unique nanotechnology augmentations, assists in missions and gains experience as the player does.

Wal-Mart: With the Wal-Mart Bonus Skill Points package, receive addition skill points that enable players to improve their characters quickly.

Target: Target customers who pre-order Star Trek Online receive a unique ground weapon – a TR-116. This rare projectile weapon is used in dampening fields and other challenging environments; it is also modified with a micro-transporter which beams the fired projectiles to targets at close range so that a user can fire without a direct line of site.

Direct2Drive: Direct2Drive customers receive an exclusive Multi-Spatial Personal Shield. This advanced personal shield system is based on Borg technology, which constantly regenerates itself and the health of its wearer.

STEAM: STEAM is offering customers Chromodynamic Armor. This armor is based on technology brought back from the Delta Quadrant by U.S.S. Voyager improves the damage and critical hits of energy weapons.

All sound particularly interesting. Personally I will be going for the Amazon Borg bridge officer. Which will you choose?

Does the ship level with your character like the guns in Auto Assault's pre-orders, or are ships like in EVE where all ships still have uses even for a veteran player?

I believe it's more of the latter. A ship should still have uses for a veteran player, but higher tier ships will likely have a lot of advantages over it.

Also, on the topic of getting multiple preorder bonuses, here's a quote from a developer on preorders for Champions. They seem to be doing it the same way so it should apply:

    "Okay, here's the clarification:

I was misinformed initially. You CAN apply multiple pre-order codes to an account. However, all unique items and costume pieces that are being distributed by retailers are only applied to your account through the retail box keys. Not through the Open Beta keys you'll receive when you preorder. So, if you want to earn all of the exclusive items and costume pieces, you'll actually need to purchase multiple copies of Champions Online. Just preordering and not picking up your copy of the game will not get you the items.

And I know the next question you're going to ask: If you apply multiple retail keys to one account, you WILL gain another 30 days of game time.

EDIT: Updated to change response. Purchasing multiple copies of the game WILL give you an additional 30 days of game time."

That was from Daeke on the Champions forums.

    Thanks for the info.

I'm still waiting to get more exact descriptions of all the items offered. Nothing like giving people no real information so they can't make informed decisions about which pre-order they want. I would wait until at least open beta because hopefully once the NDA is dropped they will be able to provide more detailed game mechanic descriptions of these items... I'm still not really convinced that i would drop the money though, but that has more to do with other issues. If I were forced to pick one right now it'd probably be the “Liberated Borg” Bridge Officer... I'll name her Six of Eight. 8)

    That sounds reasonable enough. Thanks!

Is this Chromodynamic armor for person or for ship? If for ship this sounds interesting. I myself like Borg Bridge Officer bonus.

For the gamespot preorder what is the reward if you're playing a klingon? Or do you get to have that one federation ship as a klingon? I think a D9 would be neat or something but having a Constitution-class as a Klingon seems a bit wierd.

  • BlurrBlurr Member UncommonPosts: 2,155

As far as the Chromodynamic armor it sounds to me like it would be a ship-based item. The Personal shield sounds like a ground item so it would make sense that the armor be a space item to make them different.

As far as the Constitution class bonus for Klingon players, I don't know. My guess would be since they said you had to unlock the Klingon faction, you'd just use your Constitution while you were unlocking, and maybe when you're a Klingon you can just get better ships already.

Did you get a code to post on their website to register for open beta? I pre-ordered the collector's edition and didn't get anything.

I asked my older brother who is a pretty big Trekkie.

He said from the Gamestop because "its the USS Enterprise Yo!"   So I question some of the responses of the die hard fans picking the liberated Borg as an officer.  Lol, I enjoyed watching Star Trek, just found some of those people from the movies, Trekkies, hilarious.  I mean, who lets people dress to work in Star Trek clothes everyday lol.

I would think if people are huge trekkie fans and are buying the game no matter what, I could see them buying every single option so that have all the items.  It's very smart on Cryptic's marketing part.  They have a chance of doubling to 6x the amount of box sales compared to subscriptions.  That alone should balance the books in their favor.

Any word when the Steam pre Order goes up?

  • BlurrBlurr Member UncommonPosts: 2,155

Steam is actually pretty slow in getting their preorders and such up. I wouldn't be surprised if they only got it up a week or two before open beta. So check around Xmas/new years.

I think the two best ones are the Gamestop and Amazon bonuses. In a straight usefulness comparison the borg officer might even be better because it will upgrade throughout the game whereas the Enterprise will likely become obsolete eventually and be replaced. I personally with be getting the Gamestop CE preorder because I want the trophy Enterprise and the old uniforms.

As for the rest, the D2D, Target and Steam ones sound cool but they sound like they mostly pertain to the ground and since this game looks to be oriented toward space combat more, you might be better off with Gamestop or Amazon. Heck, none of them are the TOS Enterprise so I don't think they're even worth it.

Best Buy and Walmart deffinitely got screwed though. In fact I think Best Buy might have actually gotten upset because their Jumpstart (which I notice you didn't tell people about getting into the game 2 days early if they pre-order) is 4 days ahead instead of the normal 2 day.

So I think the best bet is Gamestop or Amazon.
