Released or upcoming releases: very deep and free MMORPG.

As of lately I've been quite inactive on upcoming releases and newly released MMO's. And I've been thinking "god I need a new game".

Is there ANY game on the horizon which has EVERYTHING? Awesome crafting, total freedom, awesome pve/pvp combat, amazing looks, huge world, great design. You catch my drift.

I'm not only talking about the exploration and stuff when I say total freedom, I would enjoy a game where I could - if I wanted too - start a freaking bar, or a hotel, or even a petshop. Build my own boat and explore the world, become a fisherman, build my own house and get furniture for it, marry another player who ends up being an asian guy, get a donkey and a wagon and transport grass for people who pays me. You know, whatever I felt like doing.

Of course, in a game like this, it'd be awesome with a character customization beyond this world. How's the mmo-horizon looking these days? Is there anything coming within a few months that looks promising?

All answers and suggestions welcome, I need to widen my view.

Eve Online comes only to my mind. You can do strategy, action, economy and even diplomacy.

If you are not into sci-fi well... you could always try WoW, but I dun think it is that deep. Or Lineage 2 {mod edit}, Aion, both centered on the end-game.

I think the short answer is :no.

There is definitely no game out there right now which has anything close to what u have described...if u find that game, let me know please :)

From the upcoming releases i have some hopes about Final Fantasy XIV, it might contain some elements of what u are looking for...we will see when it comes out.

Huli, i really wonder what made u think that WoW or Aion may fit his requirements.

First of all, sorry for my last post dear moderators, I forgot where I was.

Next, the final fantasy XIV as I seen on videos is 1/2 finished and it will take at least a year to get out. It looks promising if it gets the Final Fantasy XI feeling and continues the adventures but I don't know how the people, changed by the endless spam of different mmos over the past years, will react on a classic styled mmo.

I have been looking into Guild Wars 2 as well and it seems promising. Wonder if it gets as good as the authors proclam... Still it will take some months to finish :).

There is no game announced that will crush every mmo around like WoW in its first days so I dont know if it is relevant to search for a game like that now... maybe wait for the totally different Blizzard game which is beeing developed.

Well... considering WoW has its own graphic style and with the different addons it became quite huge with a big playerbase it could be counted as a deep MMORPG.

Aion on the other hand. has nice graphics, and good pvp elements. It as most korean mmos concentrate on the end-game and to get there, a player has to "grind" his way up. At the end-game level thou it gets quite challenging and it beckomes something that you did not see at the beggining at level 5 :). And of course to get the best gear... you had to play pretty much a lot...

    Short answer: no.

Ofc you already knew that, since asking if there's a mmo that has everything(since that seems to pretty much be what you want) and you havn't heard of it, well you know that's impossible for several reasons.

    1) No mmo can do everything

2)Even if there was an mmo that did everything it would not be possible to do everything and do it well

3)If there was an mmo that did everything and did it well you would have heard about it by now, especially if you hang around these kind of mmo-sites.

For me there's pretty much nothing on the horizon that makes me think "I'm DEFINATELY playing that!"

Some ppl are touting Mortal Online like it's the messiah, but I don't think much of it. Better hold your fingers crossed for blizzards new mmo. I wouldn't mind a one-world sandbox from Blizzard, but that's another thread.

Lost and depressed, where are the good MMOs at?

For a short fix you can always try Second Life but the reality is that only until developers get 3 things out their train of thought, 3 DEADEND aspects of every MMO since EQ :

    1. Thinking combat is the only accelerant needed to advance forward with character progression

    2. The most rewarding loot distribution systems have to be PvE drop driven

    3. PvP with no moral impact (Artificial 4th wall penalties need to take a backseat)

1)Combat mentality- Everyone knows about the Bartle Test and the 4 distinct roles players tend to fall in when taking the test: Spades(Explorers), Clubs(Killers), Hearts(Socializers) and Diamonds(Achievers). We as players tend to phase in and out of all 4 roles at some point or another. But what has happened over the years is that each of the 4 roles is linked by the mentality that combat should drive all these roles.

    * Kill things in order to explore more

    * Kill things in order to achieve more

    * Kill things in order to kill more

    * While socializing has been killed by all the killing going on.

When a system is developed that truly understands the balance needed from all 4 roles, you will see old systems like the holy trinity crumble in it's wake, positive socializing that is rewarded and respected, crafters that are known for their craftsmanship and a MMO worth exploring.

    2) Loot Systems- When loot drops make sense, crafting flourishes. What if tougher mobs drop materials that can be used to craft better gear and when successful in making something you automatically log it in your "recipe book" where you can make copies to share with other crafters or sell.

What if taking down a world boss meant that all guild/town/region crafters had access to making unique gear while supplies lasted. Not all loot has to be made available in ready-to-wear drops. The enjoyment one gets out of discovering a new way to do things tend to trickle down to the masses anyway. The 4th wall restrictions of binding gear and class only items do more to break immersion and divide social economies rather than bring them together. It also creates a demand for developers to shovel out the next loot table rather than introducing a new material and letting players handle it from there. (Think Monster Hunter)

    3) Morale-less PvP- As it stands now MMO PvP is full of it's share of e-jocks and aggravated players, very rarely does someone PvP with the intent of posing moral dilemmas that reflect on their character or the characters around them. But by simply introducing a "moral compass" for each character created, you could eliminate the need for 4th wall penalties that fail in their effort to reduce unwarranted/senseless attacks that tend to pollute MMOs these days.

The compass could sway from steady to unstable depending on the amount of predatory killing, shouting or cursing a player does. That way you can have that negative behavior reflect on the players themselves through changes in the behavior of how they are treated by guards (kill on sight for the truly wicked), NPCs (higher cost of goods and services for the unscrupulous) and other players without taking away their ability to role play a certain style if they so desired. Of course this is a system that would have totally open PvP.

***Also what I mean by 4th wall is like in acting where they interact with the audience. Stat reducing penalties would be considered 4th wall, but having NPCs treat you differently would not.

You might want to give Vanguard a look.

    Things it offers.

HUGE World. Anything you see you can get to.

    Crafting system is superb.

Want to build a boat? Yup

Want to build a house? Yup

    Want to build furniture? Yup

Want to build a guildhall? Yup

    Fisherman? Yup

    PVE is very good.

    Raiding is alot of fun

Great community. The best one ive seen.

Diplomacy is another path you can choose rather then Fighting or crafting.

    The Negatives:

Requires a decent system to run.

The population isnt very large. Had a horrible release and needing a upper end system to play well are the reasons IMO.

HUGE Download, its a gigantic game. 20+ gigs

Click the below videos to see a little about the game. One of the players made them with only in game footage he recorded while playing.

    Trailer One

Trailer Two  Shows Houses, Boats , Guild halls etc.

     YES!

With any luck, Magic of the Gods is getting re-released soon and from what I've heard the only thing missing from it from what you describe is amazing graphics. =]

You might also want to look into Dawntide. ;)
