Umm the only P2P game that I have played is WoW.. other than that I have played a lot of MMO's.
I am thinking of choosing between LOTRO, EQ2, and FE.
LOTRO because I love the universe, but I've heard that the combat is bland and boring and slow.. and that there is not much class customization. These factors are the only one's stopping me from buying the game.. I have tried the trial about a year and a half ago and I actually liked the feel of the game, but the combat was boring and PVMP sucked. Has it changed now?? I don't want to download the trial again, too much of a chore, so if any LOTRO players could tell me about the game's changes since the last year.
EQ2 : I've heard that the world is huge, a ton of classes and races. Lot's of class customization, but this game is quite old and I'm afraid that I will be playing alone till I reach the later levels. I've heard that the influx of new players in EQ2 has slowed down a lot, is it true?
FE: A sandbox which looks like its worth playing. I was thinking about DF but I live in SE Asia and the lag will be quite bad here. Actually I play other games on US servers and get a ping of somewhere between 150-250.. Which is quite bad for a game which requires twitch reflexes. Again I've heard that FE is lacking in end game content, but that can be overlooked as the game is quite new.
Well I've listed three games that I'd like to play however if there is any other P2P game you would like to suggest please do so.
So out of these three games which one should I try? I and a friend of mine will be playing so I am not much worried about not finding groups. I like challenging PVE content but I cannot play Final Fantasy XI as I do not have a credit card and I usually buy game time cards.

Yes, this ^^.
As someone who plays both LOTRO and FE myself, LOTRO will feel the most like WoW to you. While FE has quests, gameplay really is far more open. I frequent the help channel there and am amazed at some of the questions coming from people new to sandbox-style play. They don't know what to do with their new-found freedom,
I have played WoW as well, and I will share with you why I prefer LOTRO over WoW. The Lord of the Rings lore is one obvious reason, and Turbine does a relatively good job of presenting it. Perfect? No. I also prefer the quests in LOTRO -- they are better written than WoW's in my opinion. I prefer the graphic style of LOTRO over the cartoonish graphics of WoW -- for the most part, LOTROs gear designs are more subtle, more realistic if you will. LOTRO has more interesting diversions: Housing, fishing, music system, skirmishes -- I'm probably missing some.
Give the free trials a shot. In short, if you want something similar, yet different enough to be interesting then give LOTRO a shot. If you want something really different, give FE a shot. Though I've played EQ2 a bit, I haven't played enough to give you a sense of the game.
EDIT: haha, bani edited his post even as I quoted it...

Both LoTR and EQII are top tier games.
LoTR is a little more story focused
EQII is a little more group / raid focused (but not entirely).

If you're burned out on WoW, you should just give up the genre for a couple of months or a year even.
All MMOs are basically the same.

I suggest FE for that anti-wow feeling. Very complex character development, with a focus on questing. Very fun game, however its one server for the whole game, which means lag can be an issue in some cities. Also a lot of the game isnt released yet. Very fun combat and character development however. You can get stats from quest rewards, which keeps the focus on finishing quest lines rather than racing to the level cap (youll have a high level, but be back in the starter area finishing up quests for AP (skill points))
If your looking for a theme park style game (like wow) i really suggest (gasp) AoC. Tons of people are still ragiing with anger over the launch, but over a year later its pretty solid, absolutly beautiful, and the fast paced combat makes pvp a blast. In fact, some of the most entertaining pvp experiences ive ever had in a mmorpg have occured in AoC. Very fun combat system and some pretty unique and entertaining classes.
EVE should be given a shot as well, if you can get over the ship only combat and leveling while logged off.
If your burned out on wow you probably dont want to dabble in LoTRO or EQ2, although you can try those for free.
If you have and older system, FFXI had some solid group play, not sure how alive that game still is though.
Guild Wars for that instant level cap end game pvp experience.
Oh and i guess darkfall if your a pvp purest, havent tried that one yet though so cant yay or nay it.
