If you read the writeups on the game you'd notice it's a small group making the game and they clearly state they aren't attempting to break any molds with this game and instead are focusing on a small set of particular game elements, more or less just trying to create a decently polished and mostly bug free game upon their release.
They're borrowing a lot of basic design elements from WoW and it's ilk mainly out of familiarity and it's most readily accessible to casual players.
At least that's the reasoning last I knew.

Clone is not a good word for it. It is a look alike in many ways, but you already stated that in your header. It has been discussed to death already several times here. So why start all over again?
Depends on your definition of "clone" it has the exact same mechanics almost down to the letter, a UI that is identical to WoW in most respects, similar art styles, similar setting, similar classes.
However many people insist its not a clone. Thy insist that the longer you play it the less clone like it got.
However if you want my opinion as somone who was in beta the game is a cheap rip-off of Wolrd of Warcraft with a few badly implemented ideas.
On the surface it's a quick and dirty copy of the basic WoW element like UI, artistic style and talents. Under the surface it's empty. I'd guess feature wise they have implemented about 20-30% of the more basic WoW features and added less than 5% of their own. Their main adds would be lore, the world and a poorly designed offline advancement system. The remaining features haven't been implemented such as PvP, RvR, instances, raiding, achievements, remaining races, remaining classes, non-basic quests, customizable UI , advanced particle effects, interactive environments, areas that change over time, etc... just to highlight a few. Most of these features are planned. The look and feel is very much along the lines of a simplified WoW style, but with heavy system requirements. Add to that quality, performance and stability issues and you have a good feel for the current state of the game. It's a game that could have benefited tremendously by waiting another 12-18 months before releasing.

Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong!
To the OP,
try Allods if you want something WoW-like. It is WAY more polished.
( waiting for the troll and hater comment )
To the OP, try WoW if you want somthing WoW-like, try Allods if you want somthing that is free and WoW-like.
PS Chouming is a hater/troll/carebear/mommas boy and symbolizes everything that sucks about this planet.
