THIS skill is not THAT skill

Hey just a heads up to everyone, when Darkfall is said to be skill based RPG what that primarily means is that you need to level up various SKILLS (aka abilities) and not that you would need to be a skilled individual to succeed.

Now you do need to be handy with aiming and such, and I am not saying you those who are better at aiming won't get better results.

But the the words SKILL based MMO in this case means not player skill but that the characters own skills start at 0 and will need to be raised to 100, and along the way the same swing does more and more damage.

Don't forget stats. you need to raise your stats too, not just your skills.

How do you do that, you ask? Chopping a tree, or mining. Very, very, very slowly.

I wish I had known that before I purchased.

Before you start saying things like this, think about something. Think about if you're a mage in World of Warcraft compared to a mage in Darkfall. In WoW you click them and then spam a button till they're dead. In Darkfall you pick a spell, aim, and then cast it. The latter seems A LOT harder considering you actually have to AIM at a MOVING target and not just some monster sitting on the ground waiting to die. I'm pretty sure being good at this is called SKILL.

I don't think skill levels are that important.

The difference between my lvl 30 and my lvl 1 archery skills has came out to about 2 points of damage more on the same mobs. But, I can aim at them a hell of alot better than when my Archery was sitting at lvl 1 :) Nothing to do with the skill though.

The targets in Darkfall move pretty unrealistically though. I was never a FPS person, but the lack of momentum in the physics really annoys me.

You will see changes when you pass certain milestones.

I think its important to consider reaslistic comparisions here.

If you compare DF to say Crysis well then you might have a problem but if you compare DF to all other MMO's ever made you start to see what DF fans are talking about.

    Good point.

I would love to play a game that was an mmorpg with all the perks of an FPS. Headshots anybody? How about nutshots?

If you do that in WoW, you won't be able to solo anything more then even level single mob or lower. What you described is a very very primitive form of gameplay. Its like if I were to say "Well, DF is very simple because you take your weapon and swing it". I can understand you not liking WoW, but obsessing with that hatred, posting misinformation, well, thats just whacky.

I don't know about anyone else, but some of the physics are kind of impressive compared to other MMOs, IMHO.

I jumped off a cliff into some water last night and almost hit the bottom. It felt VERY natural, unlike other games where if you jump into water, the game doesn't really distinguish that from jumping onto the ground, or if they do and you actually go underwater compared to how high you jump, it feels very unnatural. If I jump off a 50ft cliff, I'm not going to just go 5ft underwater.

Why are people getting so worked up over this? It's obvious the game requires more twitch skill and reactionary reflex than most other MMO's on the market, and there's really no argument or debate to be had over this. Every game has its small percentage of players that pushes the envelope and proves that there's more skill involved than the masses put into it. I'm sure there are players in the higher brackets of arena based WoW PvP who got there because they honed their ability to read situations and strategically plan their responses, but to say that games developed similarly to WoW and Darkfall are on an equal playing field when it comes to the amount of skill needed to play at a base level is absurd.

Almost all of my combat choices made while in combat are related to physics mostly because I am an archer. So to hit my target I need to determine what angle they are traveling compared to me, how far away, predict movement etc. all this is critical to success of the fight with PvE as well as PvP.

Being in a larger fight with mana missle coming from various directions it becomes even more clear how radically different combat is compared to other MMO’s.
