Okay, say you have 5 million dollars to reinvest into the game, what would you do to fix it?
Personally I would start with the land masses, instead of trying to create 2 unique continents, strip it down to one. Merge the first 4 zones together. Then finish the entire first continent (leaving the 2nd for an expansion called: The Lost Lands.)
Add in 2 more races per side from the start.
Make PvP a priority -- since part of the lore is the Crusades.
Scrape the silly idea of each class being a jack of all trades -- people don't play mages to tank, and creating a tanking mage creates a "niche market."
Get rid of the copied talent trees/study system and incorporate a unique system that actually makes sense with studies. Try something like Asheron's Call but slightly different.
Completely change the way you level.
Say you choose to play as a Warrior, you have 6 Study Trees called -- Defender, Berserker, and Tactical. Then you have Secondary, Tertiary and Passive trees.
Now as you level you get to spend X amount of points directly into your primary skills -- Strength, Dexterity, Endurance, Spirit, Intellect or whatever you want to call it. Also as you level each mob gives you Study Points directly into the skills you use and also into a pool of usable points. You can spend them to increase any skill available under the trees as you see fit rather than talent points that increase x by 1%...
Now you can have certain skills open up via purchasing manuals. Now here is what you do to the study system. Keep it so only one character can study at a time, but have it based on a time vs. level system that puts points into your study pool. So, you can create an alt, then have that alt studying while at the same time you are running on the main, since the main is earning study points by killing mobs and actively using skills either way, you can have an alt sort of keep up with your main (to a certain point) but you would still run into a cap for study points based on your level. You can switch between 3 different areas to store study points at a time.
Now, a character should never be able to study while running around killing mobs -- the only studying they do is through active experience.
Next, take crafting into a whole new direction. When you pick your class you can choose a Profession and Sub Profession which have their own Study Trees as well. So you can choose a Warrior then Blacksmith and Miner. Now Blacksmithing and Mining only gain levels off active skill use, but you can use your points from the study pool to improve your skills. What this means is that you can create a level 1 Priest who is a tailor and harvester. You can study on the Priest and place all those points into the Tailor part. Now, while he is studying you can play your Warrior Blacksmith Miner. Now after a session, you decide to look at the priest. He has saved 50 study points, enough to raise Stitching by 1 point. So you improve your stitching, and decide to go tailor some stuff up. While you are on the Priest your Warrior can be studying.
As you are tailoring you acquire a a quest to make 10 guard uniforms. You make them gain one level in tailoring, which gives you some new tailoring quests and skills, and you have gained 200 study points, you put 100 into stitching, raising it to 3, then 1 into dying, and another into loom use.
This way, you can truly create profession characters, rather than have to level your priest to 10 to get the next 50 points in tailoring.
Anyway -- I think I am just jotting basic stuff down, but I would love to see what you can come up with.

1. remove david allen
2. give everyone in QoL a pair of "working" glasses
We dont need more of these games. Give the cash to a new developer to add to their budget and let them move the gener forward not backwards.
These sort of games are making the mmo market stale!
Playing Darkfall EU1 Server
Shut down Alganon,
take the cash buy a condo in Hawaii
live life and prosper
Ok, assuming you could fix it (which I highly doubt), I would make it completely F2P, fix lag, fix AI, fix models, and most importantly fix the textures and UI so they arent ripped from WoW
Since when is Tuesday a direction?
Add More Classes. Polish. And Add in more Races and Armor/Gear Art
This is simple, remove ALL content and call it D...F...
D...F... as in Done For?
or D...F... as in Diamond Fart (lol)
Since when is Tuesday a direction?
Basically I don't think there is anything they will be able to do at this point to fix the game. It is a direct rip-off of WoW and everyone knows it... And it is vastly inferior to WoW, so it has no possible chance of succeeding with their target audience.
The only thing I think they could do to give it a chance would be to make it F2P as soon as humanly possible and then direct ALL funds towards implementing content and features that are as different from WoW as possible. That is probably their only chance in my opinion...
Alganon has by far the most retarded community i have ever encountered. The "mature" community are a bunch of old losers (these guys are not even casual gamers, they are desperately looking to socialize through Alganon, as if there is not facebook for that) who obviously have nothing better to do with their lives.
Who knows, perhaps we will see people meeting and getting married through Alganon eventually.
To fix Alganon, is to shut it down. That will save them a lot of potentially wasted money.
My brain has 2 sides;Left and right. My left side has nothing right and my right side has nothing left...
Someone please turn off the lights when you leave.
(1) To gain more players, I would drop the cost of Alganon to Free to download. Then I would charge ten dollars per month to play, not the fifteen currently charged, Having more players in the game will fix Alganon's enjoyability a lot for me. Last night there were 6 players on Hokk, pretty toon side. Only 3 were on the tattooed barbarian looking side.
(2) Take the grind out of this game. Too boring and so many quests are broken I only do quests half-heartedly. I crash all day long if I leave this game running too.
(3) The game is way too small. The land area is teensy for the cost of a paid-out by player game. Both sides areas of this game need to be open and made available to all players.
(4) I want instanced dungeons where you sign-up to go in "next available." Then the game makes a party of 3 when 2 more sign-up and with those other 2 you get whisked to the entrance. I don't care who you like, go to facebook for that. Just play with the ones who are ready and there to go through instances. In fact, if you don't show the names of the players, just call them a, b, and c, then the party would run better. The vanity of the party thing in WoW and Runes of Magic is annoying to me. So disguise the players! If someone fails to play the dungeon assigned with the party, then no more parties for that person for at least 24 hours.
I played in Alganon's closed beta and will play it through Star Trek's opening bell. Still play Alganon a bit each day. I played Horizons too and have to say it was more fun than Alganon.
Isnt Alganon releasing Cataclysm next year? No wait, thats wow. I got the two confused there.
/agree
Maybe if the dev. uses the Unreal 3 graphics engine so that the game looks more next gen. like Berkanix or TERA online. That might save it. Currently it looks like a title that came out 10 years ago... I don't care if the artstyle and the game copies WoW, just make it look next gen. and not last century.
scrap it and stop making games since clearly if this is the best they can do they should stop while ahead
I don't want to offend you but...graphics don't make a game. I've seen you talk about Unreal and TERA in so many posts not it got annoying, i can list so many pretty games that played like shit hell ive seen unreal games that look worse than a homemade engine. Now not to say that alganon looks bad, but you don't need a state of the art engine to look good.
David Allen, Brad Mcquaid and Richard Garriot all walk into a bar.....................
You can come up with the punch line.
Ten minuets later Tasos walks out and the Bar is emptied.
Dem hibbies! Dey be wrong!
If I had 5 million to reinvest, I'd take the money and run. That's a hell of a lot more than what this game would make from subs.
Honestly.... there's nothing you can do short of starting over from scratch. The game was simply a bad idea and very poorly done.
RoM is a much better done WoW clone Free to Play. Even though it sucks imho it's still leaps and bounds better than Alganon.
WoW is a much much better done pay to play.
Alganon is competing with both. It fails going up against both because it's not nearly as well done, there simply isn't much of anything unique about it. Then it suffers even more because it's pay to play which makes it even less attractive than RoM.
You simply can not throw out a crappy pay to play clone and compete with a better done free to play clone and a better done pay to play original. It just doesn't work.
So I would take that 5mil, find some sucker to buy this turd and start working on something that at least attempts to be unique and at least make the attempt to make it a quality product.
replacing Irlight by some non-free graphic engine, like Tech4, UT3 or Cry2 is a good idea, but 5 mil is not enough.
If I took over Alganon and given money to make it right then I'd fire the programmers and get new ones. I'd fire David Allen too but no need for a replacement.
