Sure, the pc still remains the dominant gaming platform for mmos but that soon can change in a hurry. More developers are starting to realize the mmo growth potential on consoles not to mention the potential to make more money on the consoles because of the lack of competition. Currently there are only 2 mmos live on the console, FFXI and Phantasy Star Online but soon if people play there card right there will be plenty of mmos to choose from on the console. Lets take a brief look at some console mmos in the making.
1. FFXIV (Square Enix) - They know mmos and since the popularity of FFXI has grown over the years this mmo will be great. PC or console you can't go wrong with Square Enix at the helm.
2. Zombie MMO (Undead Labs, jeff Strain) - Former Co-Founder of ArenaNet has formed his own Studio and is going to make a zombie mmo. Who doesn't like zombies ? Jeff Strain is well known for his work at Blizzard (responsible for map editor for Starcraft, WoW and also worked on Diablo). He also is well known for his work at ArenaNet for Guild Wars. The guy knows mmos and I can't wait to see what he has for us.
3. Dust514 (CCP) - They made Eve and it ha s done pretty well. I think the best feature about Dust514 will be the cross platform interaction. The first of its kind I believe and simply genius if thats the case. Hopefully we get more on this game soon!
4. Uknown MMO (Turbine) - Made LOTRO,AC and DDO. I can't say any of their games were really that good but the were far from horrible. They going to have to do a heck of alot better to impress people with their new console mmo.
5. The Agency,DCUO (SOE) - I know, the most hated company people love to hate and Smedley is public enemny #1 but event he most hated can cure itself by making good mmos again. Lets hope these new console/pc mmos do very well for the mo genre.
Six console mmos in the making and they could start to flourish in 2010. What do you guys think ? If anyone can add any solid information on any of these console mmos by all means share the info!

i Believe that ccp has stated that there would be no interaction within dust514 and eve players. some events effect on each other world, but it wouldnt be like you could carry troops into battle with your eve carrier or going down to a plant and interact with them.
other then that, i just dislike consoles controls... ^ ^

That is a mistake because new generation consoles, both XB360 and PS3 can use a simple USB keyboard and mouse to play just like any PC. With the advantage of having little to no hardware incompatibility issues, crashes and other things that bug the PC versions.
I use a very regular 22" monitor, with an HDMI input. So, I have both my PC and concole connected to the same screen and can change between them with a button.
When I play with keyboard and mouse its exactly the same as playing on my PC.
I think console MMO's are coming to stay, and a proof of that is that some major companys are already planning console MMo's release beyond the ones the OP posted.
As a side note, I think ive read something about blizzards also working on some console mmo project, not sure.
The main issue i see with Council MMO's is a lack of communication, you cant just type out to someone something, you need your mic in, and many people do not use mics. and i had never even heard of this Keybord in an Xbox thing befor, so it cant be all that popular either. if the game required a mic and played it off well like you hear people close to you, and people sorta far were softer, and ppl really far you couldnt hear at all, that could be kinda neat.
Playing EVE
Played Darkfall, Played Wow,
I think we're going to see WoW on the XBox 360.
I know that FFIV has been announced for the PS3 and many other game makers have dabbled in the genre for consoles. I don't know if we will see that many true MMOs on consoles but it is defenitely clear that consoles are moving more and more towards co op play. Almost every new game coming out has some sort of coop element to it. Games like Left 4 Dead and Rainbow Six gave us four player co-op but now games like Crackdown 2 and Halo Reach are giving us six player co-op. It's only a matter of time before you can form guild-like alliances where you can team up with friends and other players you have met. I'm sure that 8-10 player co-op would not be far behind. Now consider this: Depending on your playstyle an MMO can play a lot like an offline game. Most of the people you run around with are your friends anyway. So even though we may not get full fledged MMOs on consoles we will get games that are very close. I think you will start seeing games that blur the line. Borderlands is a good example. It has RPG elements and you can set it up so anyone can join your game at any time. Imagine if that were expanded to more players? That is the general direction I see things moving.
And yes, the PS3 and 360 have USB ports so you can use any USB compatible device. You can even charge an IPOD with them.. As far as people not using mics it is their loss. The system comes with a mic and replacements are not that expensive so there is no reason someone playing a game like this should not have one.
Ok so I like your idea about the mic and distance but just because you have never heard about connecting a keyboard and mouse to your x360 doesn't mean its impossible or that other people dont already do it. I have both a keyboard and mouse hooked up to my ps3 right now.
Oh and yes final fantasy XIV has been announce for ps3. It is going to be a MMO not just co-op like on Borderlands. I don't see the whole co-op thing being specifically where online console games go. There is no reason that mmo's for consoles cant exist and still be successful.
I understand this is my first post but i've been coming to this site for at least 6 years.

Even though it is not a persistent world there is a game coming out for the PS3 called Mag. It is from the makers of Socom and it is said to have a mode with 256 players on one map. The game will have progression as far as your character goes so here is another example of the line between the two genres being blurred.
I have heard of MAG and yes it certianly looks like it will be a fun game to play. With 256 players competing against one another it should be fun.
Let's not forget that Final Fantasy XI is available on both PS2 (asia) and XBox 360 on a great multiplatform server system in wich we can play on a PC with people playing on a console.
Hope they use this system in the future, to play FFXIV or DC Universe on my PS3 with my friends playing on a PC would be perfect.
God I hope not. There are quite enough morons in the genre now from WoW's introduction of console elements as it is.
Dam I want a F2P MMORPG for the consoles. (Dont care if it Fantasy or Sci Fi),
no Play Station 3's MMO network thingy doesnt count.
I agree completely.
A tiny mind is a tidy mind...
oh right, because console gamers are all immature compared to the mature userbase that you will find in popular PC games such as Counter Strike and Maple story amirite?
Well, anyone can also argue that the push for console MMO can generate a great, huge throbbing sense of elitist. Such as the obvious one coming from the person I'm quoting.
While he bases his statement on nothing but an utterly stupid sense of elitism, he declared that there are many morons in the genre, not noticing that he himself is more of a moron than all of them for ever having typed that statement.
If you want to feel like a better person than others, don't take on a gaming sense of elitism.
So I conclude: the push for console MMO WILL generate more morons, take Goatgod76 for example, ladies and gentlemen.
Of course they'll be pushing it to the consoles. They've dumbed down the genre so much that it's getting harder to go any further, so they'll have to switch to a dumber medium, the console.
*I'm not saying console gamers are dumb, I'm just saying a console will inherently be a dumber mmo experience. Control problems, communication problems, can't alt tab to check something, etc.

Oooook. How am I being an elitist? Simply because I point out the obvious? Was WoW your first MMO? Just curious because your mindless flaming makes me wonder. I played WoW up until a bit after TBC's release, so I am not making assumptions based on what I have heard, but rather on what I have seen personally through playing the game and MMO's prior to WoW. Sure, past MMO's had their share of morons, but never have I seen such an influx as that brought on since the introduction of WoW and it's instant gratification, and Battleground/stat boards/ranks (When they were there) console elements were introduced.
Call of Duty, Halo, and Battlefield already make console gaming a haven for elitists, MMO's on consoles won't be the start of it, just a continuation and possible further influx of it there. But hey, if it draws those that came here from console FPS's back to the console...then actually I retract my previous statement and say go for it.

Thanks for proving my point with "was WoW your first MMO?" I didn't even bother to read on, that's just pathetic... you might wanna go to school.

It was an honest question, not an insult. Understand that it is difficult to read into someone's actual meanings and tones through internet conversation compared to actual face to face conversation. Try not to take everything as an instant insult.

No word of mine suggested that I was insulted.... what?
And if you really want to know, my first WoW experience is just last week, trial account with level 20 rogue. I hope this prove something, bro. You seem really intelligent.

I'm not bothering any further because apparently your not interested in mature conversation/argument. Seems insult is your only defense, so troll away. I know you won't disappoint and will respond again. Have fun getting the last word in.

but see, I started by openly saying, you're an elitist. And you responded in defense, so when did I take the defensive spot? not anywhere in this argument. But yea, you seemed like such a smart guy I thought you would stop suggesting that I'm trying to defend something... but then, you let me down...
Considering that these days so many games release simultaneously for PC and consoles, I no longer believe it's fair to say that consoles games are somehow less sophisticated than the PC. On the same note, assuming that all console players are immature children says more about the person making the statement than those of us who enjoy console gaming.
Having been a lifelong PC gamer, I find it quite enjoyable to play games on my PS3 and Xbox 360. Granted, I sacrifice some graphical fidelity but this is in exchange for (often) earlier release dates, greater stability and fewer bugs in general. The fact that console games are all developed on fixed hardware is a great boon that I think will be amplified when it comes to MMO's.
No hardware compatibility issues?
No minimum system requirements?
No need to upgrade with every new game?
Keyboard & Mouse support?
Sign me up, tbh.
I love my PS3, but there are two things I hate about it.
1. Despite the fact that it's K+M compatible, games are still designed to use the controller. Even FPS games. A truly lamentable travesty, as far as I'm concerned.
2. You can't get a decent MMO on it.
First console developer to solve those two problems will get mah money. I'll even sell my PC and buy a Craptop to assuage my need for intarwebz trollage.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift
Goat, please don't try to use flawed and baseless arguments as if they make sense. it hurts my brain to read them.
Point here being, Call of Duty and Battlefield are both initially PC titles, and have just as many 'morons' playing both their PC iterations as much as there are other morons playing PC exclusive titles like CS or PC centric titles like TF/2, UT, Quake, etc.
You're trying to label a mindset that's not only common more so to the genre you were picking on, but one that traditionally has existed in greater volume on the PC for a much more dedicated duration. The only arguing point to possibly be made as an example from your viewpoint could potentially be CoD:MW2, and even on that one it's arguable.
So please, don't pick on consoles because you have some vendetta against the FPS genre, because there's quite a large amount of RPG and other genre gamers that are on consoles as well, and that's likely the section a lot of mmo cross-platforming gaming will be catering to.
Your argument of "never have I seen such an influx as that brought on since the introduction of WoW and it's instant gratification" or 'morons' and the associated "Battleground/stat boards/ranks (When they were there) console elements" is equally flawed in the fact that all those ranking systems and stats are once again from PC games originally, and only migrated along with the competitive gaming genres to consoles and perpetuated from there. Ranking systems have been around since LAN gaming began. And not even with shooters. RPGs with PvP introduced the idea of collecting things or trophies off people you PK'ed, RTS' introduced endgame statistics and progress summaries.
So to repeat, all the things you hate, have nothing to do with consoles. So please don't rant on an endless tirade about how the might introduce more 'morons' to the genre, because the major moron population is in fact the group that has been playing mmos the longest at this point (sadly myself included).
