So, again, what's so challenging about WoW, please tell me.
PvP. Just like any other MMO. Another player is always going to give you the toughest fight. That said, I've just started raiding some of the newer raid instances. Blizz has gone out of their way to make them challenging.
Omg battlegrounds are challenging??? C'mon!
As for the new raids, you beat them once following orders, then you have to wait 2 more years for the new ones to be again spoiled by raid members.
there's no challenge in this. In my times we would even SPAM the raids to get the gear auctions going on. So again no challenge in repeating what you already know. I don't know if GEAR whoring changed now.
How do you argue with people that make no sense at all ???
What about arena smartass ?? Link me your 2.2k achivment.
WoW as best game of the decade? give me a Fkin break, how much did Blizzard pay them? Best MMO of the decade, well not in my book but i could at least see that.
there are tons other games out there that were better... GTA 3, Oblivion, Half Life 2 ... those game should be ahead of WoW.

Because we all got to have the same opinion as you ?
Raids in WoW -- and in every MMO -- are only challenging when they first come out. Nowadays, raids are not about "challenge", they're about efficiency. They're about following orders and getting through them as quickly and effectively as possible to maximize your "loot per hour".
That's why the term "run" is used with these games. Dungeon/Keep/Raid "runs". You run through them.
The difficulty in PvE games has much less to do with the content, and more to do with the players' ability to lead and work together. And just because it's hard to coordinate a few groups of people doesn't make the *game* hard.
That said, WoW is easily the MMO of the decade simply because it was the spark that blew the genre up -- for better AND for worse. WoW's expansion of the market is the reason there are now an obscene number of horrible MMOs out too, all trying to grab a little piece of the pie.
As for Game of the Decade... depends on how you rate the game's cultural influence. It's transformed the entire gaming landscape. IMO not exactly for the better in some ways either.
Bascially anyone who says WOW is easy, would have to show an armory profile that proved it. Otherwise, they're a bitter little troll and nothing more. Leveling up IS easy. But WOW as an entire game is as hard as any MMO. Its a fact. Eve is easier to level up in than WOW. Thats also a fact, but I'd never say Eve is easy. Perspective. Most trolls just don't have it.
You cannot be serious. We're talking about raid dungeons, battlegrounds and quests! While EVE has a complex economic system to figure, a dynamic immense world of coalitions and battles, politics! It is realistic and scary!
WoW has guided quests, guided dungeons and dumb capture the flag battlegrounds. Sure in raids you can amuse yourself with a bit of schemes and formations and crap, but HOW is that challenging?
If WoW were actually hard, it wouldn't have had success!

Since MMOs are always changing and evolving, it is hard for a mere game to compete against an MMO that is well made, and continues to evolve.
With that said, I know guilds with 5/5 togc, and Realm First Algalon that still wipe on these encounters. I can see where statements like "The difficulty in PvE games has much less to do with the content, and more to do with the players' ability to lead and work together." held true in classic, and burning crusade, but doesn't hold true in the newer lich king raids.
That is why its is hard to compete with something that is always evolving, fixing its mistakes, or making itself better. How can a mere game compete with that?
Its almost unfair they put an MMO in this catagory, they really should be separated.
Nothing excites jaded Grandmasters more than a theoretical novelty

Why do you keep lieing ?
Man, you can't possibly compare the hardships of a plausible dynamic world with politics and economy with an INSTANCED little bashing of DEAD things the computer controls.
That's not an MMO!
So as the man above said, WoW deserved its title for its influence and popularity, but it was negative influence of casual gaming.
I think it's deserved, and would if I didn't even play or like the game. Like it or hate it, WoW has dominated its years like no other video game before. For some it is THE juggernaut of the industry for the others it is a mammoth albatros around the industry's neck - either way, I can't think of another game out there that has had such an impact. Oblivion, great game, but we had great single player games in the 80s and 90s. Diablo 2 - now we are breaking some ground, however I believe its impact is nothing compared to what Blizzard did with WoW. Again, whether you love it or hate it - the impact coupled with its dominance of the mmo revolution is how I believe earned it the title.
I can hardly wait until Zorndorf hits this thread. Things should get much more interesting.
To those that dismiss WoW's and Blizzards impact on the gaming world...LOL! I really want some of what you are smoking...I bet that stuff is really good!
Well I have to give credit to Blizzard for creating a game that single-handedly destroyed the MMORPG genre and turned virtual world concept to linear, themepark, single player game set in a massive multiplayer world. But hey, capitalism is what it is and there is no denying the 11+ million subscribers the game has. Even so it is a shame that the original MMORPG concept is now almost gone and all we get now are regurgigated WoW clones.
Has it every occurred to you that maybe the virtual world games had more to do with their own demise than 1 themepark game did?
Honestly if those super awesome genre defining games were so great, then 1 game should not be able to ruin their existence. They should be capturing their own marketshare of players with their awesome gameplay.
Perhaps people just got tired of the horrible condition most mmos are being sold as and stopped paying incompetent developers for failing to deliver on their promises. There is nothing that is stopping a game developer from designing and releasing a kick ass non-wow game and many have tried. If one game "destroyed" all of the mmos in the market then that just proves how utterly weak the entire mmo market was and this eventuality was going to happen regardless of what game did it.
I have said it before and I think it is the entire truth of the situation. The only reason world of warcraft dominates the entire market is because the rest of the market is so weak in comparison.
Until that changes there is no reason to expect the market to change.

Major impact in my book, but I can't say it has all been good. It is easy to see the huge amount of subscribers, but most miss the huge marketing that goes into it and the whole model of their business. By this I mean, rushing in as many subscribers as possible, by trying to please everyone and making the game accessible to as many people as possible. (Low end graphics modeling, etc, just to cram people in)
I cannot say they are doing it solely for the money, nor do I think it is a totally bad ideal to build a fan-base that large. Its just an opinion of mine and some others that I know, that somewhere in all of that, you lose essential concepts and parts that make an MMO really special.
Not that I knock Blizzard or WoW and what they have done with it, but I am sure I am not alone when I say that I hope 2010 brings more quality and ingenuity in the market.
Nope...sorry to burst your bubble, but WoW has had more of a social impact than all those games put together. It permeates our society now. To say that WoW has not been the biggest game of the decade makes you look kind of silly and a WoW hater because you fail to look at the big picture. No matter what other games ahve come out over the last decade...none can compare to WoW...none.

One could argue Everquest, unless you're judging this on numbers alone.
EDIT: To say, I would like to see official numbers on MMO awareness, or for that matter, PC's in households with an internet connection in the time frame of oh... lets say, 99-02. Although, I am willing to bet that accessibility of PC's that could run EQ and people actually hooked up to the internet at that time, was far less than now.

Can't help but notice that you missed my question, Gylifi.
Just wondering whether you're posting with an informed opinion on 2009/2010 WoW.
Or if, for example, you haven't played the game for a couple of years.
Playing: EVE, Final Fantasy 13, Uncharted 2, Need for Speed: Shift

What most people don't get is that they only think about the present and "QQ arena is ballz" attitude.
But when you think about it, no games reached as high as WoW have.
Hell some people know about WoW that never played it, you can't say that for 90% of the titles people said instead of WoW.
There are such a big community around WoW compared to everything else, that they had no chance of winning and WoW seemed to only logical choice.
WoW - Game of the Decade (2010-2019)

Anyway the point is that being "game of the decade" doesn't have anything to do with quality and depth and challenges.
IT only has to do with power, which is persistancy over the years and influence.
And WoW did it better than the others. that's an undeniable truth. It's the most known game in the world, even more than pac-man.
Whether it was a good or a bad sovereign, it's none of our concern here, lads.

At the end of the day, this is a single review, and there's not a commonly accepted GOTD yet.
I doubt that will be WoW(although there's a fair chance), GOTD is chosen for various reasons, not just the social aspect.
