I'm bored with WoW, and I can't keep up with it even if I wasn't bored with it. I'm light years behind everyone else.
I have other hobbies besides gaming, so I am looking for something that I can play fairly casually and not have to worry about the game getting so far ahead of me that I constantly stay behind.
Is FE that game?

Depends on what you mean by "casually". Developers are always going to be adding new content on a regular to semi-regular basis and if you don't log on enough to consume that content then you'll "be behind" so to speak.
I'd suggest stop worrying about the concept of "being behind" and just play. As you said in the other thread you just made you're always behind your friends. Well, don't worry about that so much. Just play and get your fun and get out. If you keep measuring yourself to the "Jones" you'll probably never be happy/satisfied.

This is true, but a change of scenery still may be in order.
I see that steam has the game for 24.99 which is a steal.

I played WoW too and tried FF a few days ago. I liked the concept and the devs created nice atmosphere, but the game to me was unpolished and rough in every way. I'm not a hater or something so you know.

I have level 80s in WoW.. but I've done very little of the end game raid content, because of my play schedule/play time.
I like playing casually, but I still want to be able to do the same content as everyone else. The problem is, games are designed around people who spend hours upon hours playing a game nonstop.. so if they designed the game around your "average" player... there would be no content for those speed racer players after about a week.

Nope don't think FE is the game for you, already are there people in S2 and S3, seeing what I highlighted red could mean that they already are far ahead of you, and trust me S1 is mighty big before you are able to enter S2 aswell the lvl's that you need, aswell as ALL the other options the game provides.
Yes you can play it casual, but if you worried about people getting to far ahead then I think no MMORPG would ever suite you really. I could say that you shouldn't worry about other people being ahead but that's just me.....
I suggest to get your hands on the trial and find out yourself if you might or might not like the game cause in the end only YOU can say if FE is for you regardless what we might say to you...
I loved the trial. People shouldn't hesitate to trial it after all, there's nothing to lose but a potentially brilliant MMO experience. If you like crafting, this is the game for you because you almost have to make everything unless you become savvy as a salesman in the auctions. But you'll still have to make stuff in the end anyway. I dont know how the midgame or endgame pan out but if they expand it well, this will go places. Fallen Earth gets my personal best MMO of 2009 and just from a trial.
If you like to button mash and not have to think in order to PvP, don't play FE. ^^
Isn't that what Melee is all about?
No. FE is not that game. Save your money and time.
There is a free trial.
But FE doesn't seem like the kind of game that has you endlessly chasing a carrot on a stick like wow endgame.
My sig is just as logical as your posts are
That's true, because most will quit before end game and those who don't will eventually discover there is no end game - unless you call grinding the wheel an end game.
OP, ignore the elitists and simply play the trial to find out for yourself.
Excellent Response. Troll Proof.
I sing the songs that make the young girls cry.
The green monster still rears its ugly head every once in a while for me too, but I agree with some other posters in this thread.
Give up trying to be competitive with other players in MMORPGs. Unless you're a no life nerd with obsessive compulsive disorder you are never going to "win". Just compete against yourself, and then try to enjoy the game content and the company of your fellow players wherever you happen to be at the time.
Most games, I'm hardcore. Race to end game and smell the roses on an alt, type of player. In FE, I have felt no desire to rush. I'm having a blast harvesting, crafting, questing and whacking mobs even if they wont give me XP (I've always loved a good one-shot!).
So far, I have a lvl 24 melee, lvl 10 pistoleer and a little lvl 4 newb that I think will go rifle. I love that you get a free mount right away, like by level 2 if you do the extended tutorial, you'll have a horse. There are so many things in the game that make it enjoyable, at least for me. Sure, it's a bit choppy for me, but then, my computer blew on me and I'm playing on an older rig right now (about 4 years old - GT5622 with a GeForce x700, not good for todays MMOs).
My personal opinion on the game is that it can easily satisfy casual and hardcore playstyles. There are some flaws in the game, but overall, I think it's very well done. The devs are also VERY active on the official forums and the communication is top notch. There is also constant GM presence in game and they are very helpful to new players. I have not needed their assistance at higher levels, but I'm sure they are still there for the players, I just don't have experience with that.
Give the game a chance. 10 free trial with no CC info needed to try it is really nice. Also, for me, the free month didn't start until my free trial period would have ended, I was pretty impressed with that.
I found FE very boring, I understand that the world is supposed to be all drab and dull but that among other things just bored the daylights out of me. Before everyone flips out on me no I don't play wow or expect that kind of gameplay, in fact I play EvE mainly.
I'm downloading the trial as we speak. Who knows, maybe it will make my gaming time fun again.
Don't worry Sain34, not every game will always suite everyone.
Am glad you also have a game to enjoy.
And this is why having many different games in many types of game worlds is so important. Because see....I played EVE (for about 6 months), and I found it TERRRRRRRIBLY boring. But, to be fair...I don't find outerspace, to be a compelling environment for me. I felt like the entire game was played on a backdrop of a lovely desktop background or screensaver. Sure, the planets and all are "pretty"...sort of....but it just isn't enough for me. (The ship animations, however, were VERY well done, imo.)
Also....I do NOT like being inside a spacecraft all the time. I think the ambulation patch/expansion would make EVE much more appealing to me, but I know many of the long time players don't really like the idea. I stayed around long enough to train up some good skills, buy my HULK (and a couple of other cheaper, crappier ships...lol), make a substantial amount of isk on the market and get to really like my corps members, and yet still....there was something vital that was lacking...for ME, personally. I really think I just never felt a real "connection" with either the game, the environment, OR my character. Not being able to actually SEE her and connect to her "physical" appearance...didn't help. One small picture of a character, does not a character make...for me.
And where you don't like the game world of FE...I absolutely love the post-apocalyptic environment! I adore it. I'm so so over the fantasy settings in MMOs. To me, FE is very refreshing, probably in the same way that you feel that about EVE.

I've been playing FE for 3 months now and somehow suddenly got bored with it. The game is great and comparing to many other MMOs today offers much more to players. However, it does miss that something extra to keep you playing for months and years.
Everything is so much fun at the beginning like quests which are well designed and worth reading instead of just rushing through. Furthermore, crafting and leveling is complex and a bit confusing at start but as soon as you figure it out it gets very interesting. But the more I played the more I felt that there is actually not much to do.
Everything seems to get down to questing and leveling to endgame and gathering mats for crafting. Crafting is well implemented but there is no real economy in game which makes it that much less interesting. Since maxing your crafting skill will not nerf you much in combat skills many players are crafters and just craft for themselves. In addition, there are no player owned vendors but auction house where you place items for sale for a limited amount of time (48 hours) after which you have to put them on sale again. This very much kills the economy thus the lack of interdependence bethween players. With enough patience you can do solo almost everything in this game so the social aspect of FE is suffering.
Please take into consideration that I am not a fast grinder whining for more content. After 3 months (15-20 hours a week) im only lvl 36 and haven't reached endgame yet.
FE is a good game and Devs are taking a right approach towards community. Game is updated regularly and with recent addition of bunker bars and camps I think they are heading in the right direction. However, my opinion is that FE still needs a bit more to be playable on a long term basis. With all the great stuff it has right now I am hoping that devs will release more content soon so I can reactivate my account and continue playing. But for now its just wait and see....
While for many people the above will most undoubtedly be true, I’d like to offer a different perspective on Fallen Earth.
Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot to criticize about FE. Depending on point of view and what’s important to you as an individual, certain things will be lacking. If graphics and animations disturb your immersion, then you will be justified in commenting on that weakness. If min/maxing to end game to get to the raid content is what is fun for you, then you would be correct in pointing out the game’s ending content liabilities.
For me, I’m willing to give this game a huge mulligan in many areas. Simply because it has so much potential as a true role-playing game. If you ask me, RP has been an unfortunate casualty with regards to the way this genre has evolved.
For me, FE is not about anything other than being the canvas upon which I paint. *I* make the fun. *I* create the immersion. I could care less about my level or what end game content is present. The point of the journey is NOT to arrive.
In searching for my RP legs, I came to realize that the differing factions are a very good basis for RP. One of my characters will become a Vista (tree-hugger) not to mention a grumpy old codger. He will decry the use of technology having been the thing that destroyed the planet. He will climb on a soapbox in local chat spouting fundamentalist-like diatribes for the enjoyment or disgust of all.
What game goal does this help me achieve? None at all save for the ones I have defined for myself. Fun!
That said, it is as much up to us, as players, to develop this canvas as it is for the devs to tweak certain elements of it. At least in the newbie areas, local chat is shockingly silent. The taverns empty and lifeless. That needs to change as much as possible.
The way I see it, if new players see someone doing it (RP in local chat that is), a lot of them will do it too.
I’m looking forward to this. My efforts begin Saturday when I am released from the restrictions of a trial account.
This may not be the game for you. However, if you love RP, then give the 10-day free trial a shot.
I hope to see you “out there”.

You need to log back in...it's certainly NOT like that now. As a matter of fact...I only WISH that were more true. Right now, the help channel and regional chat is filled with people playing the trial, and some that have already subbed and are staying. Sadly, part of what it's filled WITH, are admitted ex-WoW players whining about...."ZOMG there's no fast travel??? WTF? How do I use Smash? This game is FAIL. WTF? How do I equip my weapons?" And no...I shit you not. Thankfully, there is also some brilliant stuff happening in those same chat channels, and when there isn't....there's always your own clan chat, which, at least for ME...is a bastion of gaming goodness for socialization and role play.
The way I see it, if new players see someone doing it (RP in local chat that is), a lot of them will do it too.
THIS much may be true. And...it's starting to happen.
I’m looking forward to this. My efforts begin Saturday when I am released from the restrictions of a trial account.
Hallelujah, and look me up! My clan is Conquistador Coffee, Inc. Message me here on MMORPG and I'll let you know the names of a few RP'ers, including my own, in game. I'm not typing it on HERE, because I don't want to deal with the vast majority of MMORPG readers, just to be honest. It wouldn't be unlike some of the members of this forum to simply sign up for the trial just to troll. There really should be a game called "Trolls R Us" for these people, but sadly...no developer has taken on that challenge yet.
This may not be the game for you. However, if you love RP, then give the 10-day free trial a shot.
I hope to see you “out there”.
I agree with almost all of what you said here.
I honestly do not believe that a better game for role players EXISTS. Icarus has given us an incredibly immersive world for post-apocalyptic RP. I'm in an RP clan (I think I mentioned that before, but don't remember in what thread), and for RP'ers.....imo.....this is THE game of the decade.
I would go so far as to say, that if you're a gamer that loves crafting, and loves a great storyline, and is more interested in THE JOURNEY than rushing to some "end game" (a term which did NOT used to be part of an MMO players vocabulary back in the days of UO, Meridian, and the earlier, meatier games of the genre)....then you at least owe YOURSELF a go at Fallen Earth.
As I've said before...if you LIKE that "rushing to end game" mentality, and you want everything handed to you on a silver platter, and you don't know how to read (or don't LIKE to read, or are simply too lazy to explore a game's features on your own)....you'll probably be disappointed. FE isn't WoW, that much...is for sure. And many ex-WoW players take great delight in coming into help channel and letting us all know that they think FE "suxxors." Frankly....those of us playing it and enjoying it....just roll our eyes and say, "Okay...well bye...cya! Don't let the proverbial door hit you in the ass." Some of us....LITERALLY say that IN help channel.
I will never understand why people trying out a game feel a need to /yell their grievances before logging off of a FREE TRIAL. It's not like you're paying to play. Just STFU...log off....go play whatever makes you happy, and live long and prosper. The maturity level of that behavior is sub par with grade school level whining that, "Teacher...Johnny has the ball and won't let me plaaaaaaaaay!"
But myself, I'm very grateful for Icarus and the attention they are giving this game, the energy they put forth, and I'm grateful for the members of the community that, by and large, are intelligent, articulate, friendly, devoted gamers with a love for the genre and a desire to be part of this still growing and changing world that is...Fallen Earth.

I think we had a miscommunication. I didn't mean to suggest that there was no chat at all, but rather that local chat is severely underutilized for both RP and just in general.
To me, local chat is where most RP should occur. No one is going to appreciate me conducting a green RP rant in Region even if it is all in good fun.
In any case, we see such talk like you mention even in these fourms. One thing I don't think a lot of folks realize is that the very reason people like you and I are in this game is precisely because it doesn't contain certain mechanics from other games such as fast travel. These people always seem to leave us with the same types of thought processes "bring in this, that and the other thing and then I'll come back to play".
Um... no. The last thing that this game needs is to be made like all of the others. There are a ton of games like that... go find one. Don't let the door hit you on the way out and all that.
Some trial players are really quite amusing as you allude to. They skip the tutorial and then need to ask how to do the most basic things. One guy complained that he was given a level 8 mob to kill in a level 2 quest. Shoddy game design and epic fail, you see. That is, for anyone without enough MMO instincts to realize that one is free to create a group even for those quests not marked as such.
/facepalm
Seriously. Exactly WHAT mmo have these people actually played? Oh wait...
