What existing Intellectual Property would you like to see made into an MMO?

Johnie-MarzJohnie-Marz Member UncommonPosts: 865

It seemed most people would not like to see (or would not seem to think they would play) a Twilight MMO. Is there any existing property you would like to see made into an MMO?

Wheel of Time: I would love to see a Wheel of time MMO (probably would take place on a mirror of the wheel so they could take liberties) I would like to play an Aiel warrior. Join a sept and fight against the minions of the dark one. It would also be cool to become a warder, play a dread lord or dark friend or even a man who can channel? The back story for WoT is so deep I think it would make a great game.

Forgotten Realms: I actually wouldn’t mind a Greyhawk MMO either.

Mech Warrior: A giant PVP battle for planet control. Thousands of planets an ability for your merc company to own a planet if you could keep it.

Buffy/Underworld: I would love a Buffy MMO or an Underworld one. It has been said there is a Buffy MMO in progress but we’ll see if that really happens.

Some of these are hopefully in the works; some I just hope would get made one day.

Girl Genius, by Phil Foglio. Set in the interregnum between the disappearance of the Heterodynes and the first comic, during the wild chaotic years when Klaus was just gaining control. Jagermonsters, mad science, sentient castles, spider women... it's a huge world and there's so much you can do with it.

    None.

I think MMOs should be created on their own IP

    Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR
    Played: UO - EQ1 - AO - DAoC - NC - CoH/CoV - SWG - WoW - EVE - AA - LotRO - DFO - STO - FE - MO - RIFT
    Playing: Skyrim
    Following: The Repopulation
I want a Virtual World, not just a Game.

These would be somewhat weird IPs but badass nonetheless:

    1) Cthulhu Mythos from the writings of H.P. Lovecraft and others who have built upon it

    2) Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

    3) Forgotten Realms

    4) The Postman, the book not the movie :P

Currently restarting World of Warcraft :/

Avatar and harry potter should make some fairly deep and entertaining games so im up for that but otherwise in terms of money anything like twilight or transformers if done right would rack in millions.

A Wheel of Time MMO was announced in november 2008 i think by Red Eagle Entertainment. Along with a movie deal and games based on the movies, but other then that initial announcement i havnt heard anything since. which makes me doubt that anything significant has actually been done.

    Some of these are hopefully in the works;

WoT is being developed.  I have no idea what kind of budget they are talking about.  Hopefully enough to make a complete world. There is so much content in his books I cannot imagine how they could make a game with enough content to do justice to the books.  But it would be wonderful to play in Jordan's world.

That is deffinately a Valid point as well. If you create your own property you can mold it specifically for the MMO playstyle without having to be restricted to material not meant to be in a computer game.

Still, for me part of the fun in Lotro (for instance) is visting great spots in middle earth.

I hear Cthulu is being used in The Secret World.

WoT is one of the few MMO worlds that would get me as excited as the Star Wars universe.

Speaking of which, I love EVE but there is no dogfighting in it. I would love a Rogue Squadron (Star Wars, post 'Return of the Jedi') MMO.  I think it could  contain the material from the Rogue squadran books and the Thrawn books.

     Starwars!  Oh wait, nvm :P

Hmm, I like the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy idea, but it's a little to quirky and humorous to be an MMO.  District 9 would be interesting.  Also Spore, anyone played that game?  I would love to see that turn into an MMO.  One of my favorite games.  I imagine character creation would be better than any other MMO (lol).  Or any IP with a good story behind it I would love.  Lore is a very important element to an MMO, at least to me.

    This statement is false.

Gundam. A true Mecha MMO would be awesome. As long as it was twitch based, turn based hotbar clicking just won't cut it there. Give us something like Zone of the Enders 2 battle system.

    The Matrix.

Not run by SoE obviously. And where the story started in the begining and not post-neo.

With the actual technology available for creating MMO's, the combat would be 5 stars with a rich story.

If done properly, it would be great for PvE and PvP.

Something in prehistoric times. I guess if your looking for a known IP maybe use a Turok theme. Along with the dinosaurs throw in some aliens. And as mentioned earlier Avatar would be fun .

    1. Shadowrun

    2. Fallout  (Fallen Earth isn't even close)

    3. Cthulhu Mythos (I always liked the Noir hard boiled detective, late 30s early 40s setting)

    4. D&D  (done correctly with an open explorable world to adventure in)

If done right, mechwarrior could possibly challenge Eve.  It would have the potential to have the same "feel" as Eve.  I guess by done right I think it would be an FFA PvP sandbox.  There also would be the opportunity for a very rich, detailed, and complex crafting system/player driven economy to go along with it.

My dream MMO would be World of Darkness.  CCP and White Wolf are supposedly working on this.  If they stay true to the original PnP game, this would be one of the most innovative MMO's since, well EQ and UO.  I don't see a lot of potential for crafting, but they could also dove tail it with Werewolf and Mage.  There is so much potential in these IP's that there would be a danger of screwing it up by trying to do too much at once, and this game prolly won't work as a dumbed down Vampire game.  It would have to be an all out, full loot, sandbox where you can kill everything (as long as you can handle the consequences)

    1. Shadowrun

    2. Twilight 2000 (no, this one has nothing to do with teen vampires)

    3. The Dark Tower

    4. Dune

    5. Battlestar Galactica (or some kind of spinoff)

I totally agree! Being able to play as a Myrrdraal, a Trolloc, Warder, soldier, Aiel, or an Aes Sedai among other things. They might want to make it in the Age of Legends, because Saidin wouldn't be tainted, and all the things that existed then.

Well nothing can beat these 2 :

1- A-Team      Hannibal ftw and the theme song when you log in would just be a epic classic moment

2- MacGyver : Strong point = No matter what level you are,you can create explosives out of almost anything.

Weak point = Everyone would be MacGyver

    Dune would be awesome.

i still think james bond mmo would be good The agency is proof. james bond could be retired and be teacher that teaches you and helps you with stuff through out the game. since he still pops up and teaches you it's still james bond at heart.

It won't be his world. It will have the names and some of the appearance, but it will be altered and twisted (by devs who claim to be huge fans of the IP) to suit the mass market and barely recognizable to fans - going by every recent IP-driven MMO I have seen or heard about.

I'd love to see faithful adaptations of Dune, Star Trek, Star Wars (not Old Republic), Amber, Riverworld, and Larry Niven's 'Known Space' settings, but have lost all hope that any MMO company will treat the IP as little more than fan bait for box sales. They would all just be different skins on the typical MMO game engines.

    Avatar.

No, not the gabajillion dollar movie. Avatar: The Last Airbender. In the show, the creators provided enough detail to allow the viewers to understand and connect with the world; however, there's a lot they didn't get in to, which means a lot of room for expansion. Perfect for an MMO. The lore already has different melee, ranged, or "magic" (bending) classes. To pull it off, though, they would need excellent combat animations, especially for any benders, since bending in Avatar is based on real martial art styles.

Even if it turned out to be WoW in the Avatar world, I'd play it.
