I knew it would be some kind of futuristic setting but according to my understanding it sounds like a lobby/battleground game.. which sucks...I was really hoping they'd create a bigger world than wow (even for a totally different game)
World of Warcraft is a proof that MMORPG quality should affect schedule/budget and not the other way around.
I for one think this sounds like a pretty nifty idea. I love games like The Sims and "some" FPS games, sticking those together with MMOs sounds like a bizzare yet entertaining idea. If they execute it correctly, it has the potential to be totally awesome.
If Blizz doesn't make this game, I hope someone does >.<
I think they're trying to make it a combination of Sims for girls like the poster above me, a third person/first person shooter based and make it like a social network to go with the flow of facebook and all other social networks these days.

well, given that each Sims title seems to sell, (consistently top of the PC game charts!) so people obviously like it, combining it with a FPS though, could this be, Sims going Postal! with an 18 rating, aka AoC.... ..

I've been asking for something along these lines since AoC was released, I discovered the combat interface wasn't all I'd hoped it would be and then I subsequently played COD4 online for about 6 months solid.
I think the 'traditional' one-button-FTW style MMOs have had their day. WoW has taken this style of MMO about as far as it can go (and by the looks of things, even Blizzard realises this). The only new options left are crappy gimmicks (flying, anyone?), everything else is just incremental improvements like better quests, graphics, scale, etc. One of the few games of this type I'm really looking forward to is GW2 coz I think they can nail it and get all possible improvements into one game. Oh and a couple of F2Ps look good too, but I think the WoW-style MMO genre will go that way eventually.
Most of the games I'm looking forward to - see my sig for details - are similar in proposition to this: FPS mechanic (i.e. skill-based with pace), MMO environment (i.e. depth and longevity). I know none of this is new but I'm guessing technology has moved on enough to allow this kinda thing to be viable.
Oh, and GA has the jump on this style of MMO by a mile... and I think it's a really good game. Still not that "MMO-ish" but it's a excellent step in the right direction given that we play these games for fun right, not because of what they're labelled?

Yea, GA is pretty good in this respect. I find it a good mix of both worlds. Though I wonder if this is true how Blizzard will pull it off.

I highly doubt its a MMOFPS type game that blizzard is going to announce. I believe it will be a MMORPG, but not in a Fantasy world, maybe something less casual different genre, because they are aimed at more of a mixed audience.
I agree though, GA is well done and is over exceeding most peoples expectations. But I am still anxiously waiting to see what Blizz has in store for the future, because I had my fun years in WoW, while I dont bash it, I cant bring myself to play it anymore.
I think it's going to be like a futuristic kinda like avatar where fantasy meets weapons/technology with a third person / first person look (maybe to your choice to decide) with the ability to have housing / develop technology better weapons etc etc and it will be a combination of shooting skills like in FPS games and technology/weapons gained from crafting but will be based mainly on skill.

I really hope this isnt true, I was hoping it would be maybe a sandbox type MMO but perhaps Blizzard has been seduced by the riches they've gained from the masses, due to how accessible to game is. Going by how much they've dumbed down WoW's already easy and accessible gameplay, I would'nt be that surprised.
Oh please no... I knew Blizzard was starting to make dumb moves, but this is a little far, lol.
That got me laughing.
I remember about a year before WOW came out, a couple of friends of mine started saying the exact same thing to me as I became interested in a WOW ad that I had just found in some gaming magazine. We ended up all playing shortly after release
Some of you WOW guys seem to have fossilized right along with the old girl

I think they don't have a MMOFPS in development, they would take too many players from Activision's Call of Duty franchise. If the COD MMO is true, it's for sure Blizzard won't make a MMOFPS. And if you think clearly, it would be stupid too. Blizzard brought the MMORPG into our living rooms, if you ask your mom what a MMORPG is, she asks 3 times what you just said. When you say World of Warcraft she know what you mean. At the moment Blizzard is so big, everyone is waiting on the big 'unannounced MMO' from Blizzard, it would be stupid if they try a complete new genre in their new MMO. I think it's just going to be a MMORPG or a MMORTS, but making a MMORTS would be a hard job to make that look cool. I trust on you Blizzard!

bet you'll play it

Whatever it will be, I bet it will be linear, themepark, casual and easy enough for a 10 year old to be good at.

It's going to be Avatar, isn't it?

could it not be something along the lines of starcraft ghost? futuristic, fps capable, rts 'hub style' central management and development?

Yes it will be a P2P MMOFPS: Play to pay massive multiplayer online furry pet store :P
This is a lot further than I thought they'd stray, I'm more interested now, if this is true that is...

does no one remember that giant ad for WoW that was called warcraft III?
this new FPS MMO is obviously starcraft themed. they update the story and drum up interest with SC2, and go live with the MMO a year or two after.
i lawl at those of you who think Avatar is going to be the theme.
I hope it has RPG elements
PS: WTF does a future oriented sci fi MMO has to do with a HYDRA?
Most modern FPS, SP or MP have some annoying RPG elements(even if they don't belong there).
I doubt that's our biggest concern.
sorry about post 14 or 15 (mine)since then i found out what halo was
its on xbox for now ,HALO REACH .it will support natal .and they got an undisclosed multiplayer part in it
deemed super sercret.and this lat part might be very big since very rarely does microsft and bungie hide stuff they
bragged about this game for month they arent really bragging about natal so it must be complicated
i gues some game part will support natal and other wont.but for microsoft to keep a multiplayer feature secret in their
flag ship game means it can only be something industry shattering!hell even mag had bragged about their 250 player /map feature .
so i think the multiplayer is in for a very big surprise on this one
Oh please no... I knew Blizzard was starting to make dumb moves, but this is a little far, lol.
