    UPDATE!

Aion has well over 1 million subscribers. This game ROCKS!!!!

1 million in China, and growing?

We knew Aion was a hit in Korea (currently the most popular MMO on the market there), but Aion's success in China was something of a wildcard...until now.

    Quote:

Shanda's (Nasdaq:SNDA) licensed pay-for-time western fantasy MMORPG AION recorded more than 1 million paying users by April 19 in the five server farms in commercial operation. The game began charging RMB 0.48 per hour with the release of its first commercial operation version 1.0, "Yao Sai Pan Long," on April 16.

lol, people already talking and speculating server shutdown. damn AOC and WAR really put alot of low expectations and negativity in the NA mmo scene. lets at least wait till the game comes out here, hehe. i expect a huge success in the long  run. if the game plays ike wow and looks that good then no reason to assume early failure.

The Aion was delay in NA because of the failure of those games.Aion will be arriving with what war and aoc did not bring few bugs, polish and lots of content.

Nice necro bump, I'm enjoying this game too and I'm no fantasy fan but this is the first game since Tabula Rasa that keeps me playing. I couldn't look at Fallen Earth and CO twice without getting that "sucky MMO" sick feeling. Ever since 2005 when SWG went down the shitter, it's been difficult finding a decent MMO and I think this may be it but not sure yet, I only lasted 4 months in WoW.

Outside of Asia the game has lost 2/3 of its subscribers and this trend continues. Now, who cares about China?

MMORPG genre is dead. Long live MMOCS (Massively Multiplayer Online Cash Shop).

Where did you get these figures from?  2/3 is a lot and don't say everyone you know it quiting because when I log in there are tons of people still playing.  It takes like 5 minutes to get an FT group going.  Nice fail at trolling.

I can only speak about my server and it's dying fast.  We lost lots of players after a few months.   I am pretty close to quitting myself.   Just waiting on news on the Aion Vision Trailor.   If I don't see what I am looking for in that expansion or updates I am done wit the game.  Sadly it had alot of promise, but game gets boring and frustrating.

I made a demo account and every server was "recommended" between 7-12pm EST. this gives plenty of room for both EST and PST primetimes. WHOOPSIE NCSOFT SCREWED UP

    throughout the entire weekend too

-Computer specs no one cares about: check.

-MMOs played no one cares about: check.

-Xfire stats no one cares about: check.

-Signature no one cares about: check.

    ------------------------------------------------------------
    -Narcissism: check.

    No it hasn't. Source?

I heard Wow lost 10 million subscribers and is the least played game at the moment.

So what does that really mean? "recommended" could be mean anything since they expanded the server capacity a while ago.

Is there a new game that is being tested in China or something? Or is it the same game that was released here in NA that is just being tried on the Chinese MMO fans? Is tower of Eternity some kind of expansion or something?

    where have you been?

Aion released last year, it's the second most played MMO in the world and huge in America/Eu. It's made by Ncsoft, a Korean company that owns Arenanet (guild wars).

It is therefore releasing their expansion sometime this year to compete with rival MMO, especially Tera Online (by Blue Hole Studios, an up and coming Korean company, ex Ncsoft workers).

The expansion is shown through their vision trailer.

I actually own Aion and have played it on the NA servers. stopped playing for many different reasons. I had no idea they were making an expansion, I thought I heard that aion vision was just a sneak peak at future content and not really an expansion.Guess I was wrong.

I definitely dont think this piece of garbage is anywhere NEAR a WoW-killer..

just like AoC when it launched, FC boasted that it had so-and-so number of subscripts and that it was highly successful... Ok maybe the first month of launch, the game had tons of people in it, but after the free month its membership took a severe nose-dive..

If you look at the server status and check out Azphel, the proof is in the pudding.. When I was playing Aion (played for 2 months) I hit lv 36 and decided this game was terrible and cancelled my subscription... During this time, the people that had reached level 45 - 50 were 2% of the server... I looked up last night on the server stats for Azphel, and it has gone from 2% to 4%... with the majority of the server between level 1-20 and 25 - 30. So please, dont tell me this game is pumping with activity lol 80% of the US population left that game as if it was carrying the plague.

One thing that bothers me about this game also is how narrow the damn world is.   It really detracts from the beauty of the world excessively.

Another thing to remember when looking at those numbers on Aion's site, they also include all the alts people made to hold names, use for storage, etc.  My first character was on Azphel, she's in the high 20's, but hasn't been played since about 2 weeks after release.  On Zikel, I had a 50, 28, 23 and 14 for characters.  So, the stats on the site are very skewed.  To get a real understanding of the game's population, we would need a count of active accounts... guess what, it's not gonna happen!

No, recommended means low population. Whether they expanded the server capacity or not, it is still being displayed as recommended. Normally when this happens it is time for a server merge, which I highly recommend for this game.

Aion did well and sold a ton of box copies, the problem lied in the retention of said players. My guild which has played together since the original Guild Wars and isnt a small number of players either, has all but quit. We had a few hanging on in hopes of some additions come 2010, but none seem to be in store and hope is going out the window.

The biggest problem was there is nothing to do later on. Instances are boringly easy and take no real skill or strategy. Check out the videos of all sorc teams downing bosses in under a minute and you will see first hand proof of this.

There is no straight pvp, its all PVPVE in that you either gank or get ganked while fighting a mob and in order to take a fortress, you have to kill npc's. Taking artifacts consist of entirely killing npcs and most often there is no one there to defend them.

All PvP points can be earned through PvE, including raids, so there is no real need to ever actually pvp.

And theres only about 1 raid for level 50's so not entirely sure what they wanted max level people to go out and do.

The game is just boring, all your alts are forced to level on the same quests in the same areas because the world is so small and linear, its fun the first time through, not the 5th.

PvP is horribly unbalanced in the air, melee classes cant use any of their skills in the air if the target is moving due to you actually have to stop and then you use your skill or you get the "to far away message". Assassins cant use ambush to close gaps, but sorcs can use ROOTS and turn me into a TREE 100 feet off the ground.

Aion had great ideas, and you can still see they have great ideas from the visions trailer, but its NCsoft. I can almost say for certain 90% of what we saw will never be in game, and most likely will be converted into whatever their next project will be.

Why do you think they released the visions trailer and then were hush hush about it for over a week. They wanted people to go OMG look at this update coming, go back and resub and then they finally said welllllllll its not so much of an update as just something wed like to do 20 years from now.

I could care less how many people are playing but I can tell you that the zones are still packed with folks. IMO there are still way to many whiners and complainers playing the game...I wish they'd all /quit already and go find another MMO.

Aion is the best MMO out right now as far as I'm conserned and I've played them all...

You sir play too many video games and think too much imo lol

Both Aion and NCsoft are great. Don't let this asshat fool ya.. 2010 will prove NCsofts intentions with Aion and guys like this will wish they hadn't power-leveled so quickly through the content... A shame some folks can't enjoy a MMOs content rather then trying to hit max level asap and burning through everything mindlessly.

NCsoft is better off without you all I say :-)

You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about do you.

Recommended means low population? Ok. What does medium/good population mean then? or is there no medium population, the servers are either locked up fully with queues, or they have low population and are dying.

Server merges? If any of Spatalos or Gorgos (the only 2 servers I play on) are merged with any server they would explode. Right now, the population is perfect. No difficulty finding groups at all. Yesterday I did an FT run at 5am. On the other hand, they're not full either, as in there aren't any server queues, lag, cluttering, etc., it's not annoyingly overpopulated like at launch.

An advice: Have a clue before trolling, it helps you.

Kind of easy to kill a competitor once you've had them banned in your country by the government.

In all seriousness, you cant call it a wow killer till it actually kills wow in the free market.  Meaning here in the united states.  Meaning everyone goes over to Aion from wow and the servers shut down due to lack of profitabillity for the publisher.

Honestly, in the western world, where our government dosent shut down competition (like in china) this game will never win out.

This game has 250,000 subs in the free market versus 11 million for wow.

If you call this a wow killer, I say your math-fu is weak.

Sanity is a delusion. The only truth is madness.
