This games reminds me of FF14

BellarionBellarion Member Posts: 244

The textures and graphics for Tera remind me of the look of FF14. I am hoping the similarities end there.

Mostly because I don't want to feel conflicted between FF14 and any other game. But also because "idea theft" is cheap and I hope SE is keeping there best talent and ideas (ie cards) close to their chest.

FF14 is being developed without PvP so there isn't much to look forward to in that game.  If you're looking for a carebear game with pretty graphics FF14 is for you.

Please.... not in these threads, too.

The world is not that black and white, nor is it that small. Take the freaking e-peen goggles off.

Enjoying a PvE game does *not* make you a "carebear". Likewise, playing a PvP MMO does *not* make you "hardcore". Either case makes you someone who enjoys a particular style of gameplay. They're *games*. Entertainment. That's it.

Isn't it about time such ridiculous self-edifying terms went the way of the dodo? Seriously... I don't care if you label yourself "carebear", "hardcore" or whatever... In my opinion, someone who defines themself as anything other than a "gamer", regardless of what kind of game they play - MMO or otherwise - needs to get outside, experience more of the real world and find something to identify themself that actually means something more than a bunch of pixels on a screen.

    /rant over

This might freak you out, herniter: I intend on playing FFXIV *and* TERA.

Why? Because each is going to provide a specific type of experience, both of which I enjoy.

FFXIV: Because I enjoy a good, solid PvE experience with deep storyline, great character development and a vast world to explore and get lost (and probably killed) in. FFXI delivered on that, and I'm sure FFXIV will do the same. I'd argue that FFXI provides more content, more things to do and more bang for the buck than any MMO with PvP I've ever played or known of.

TERA: Because I was a big fan of Lineage 2, especially back around C3, and also enjoy the dynamic of player-driven politics (in-game, not real life), the thrill of competition of taking or defending a castle, or a fortress... or fighting for who gets to take on a raid boss, etc...

Those are two distinct experiences that I enjoy equally... so I fully intend on having active accounts to both so I can hop into which ever one I feel more like playing at a given time.

Good PvP seldom exists Herny. What you meant to say was "FF14 is not being made with the possibility to PK and gank" and this is true. SE will add PvP aspects , and they will mesh with the world and probably have benefits and rewards that are applicable in the PvE environment- Can you believe it?!?!! I know right? PvP that has some deeper meaning then ganking/PK'ing AND gives benefits that tie in to the PvE that SE is going to make so thrilling. You know how I know this? I know you are dying to find out... because they did it in FF11.There were many PvP experiences in FF11, though different in nature then pure hack and slash opponent, that gave you rewards for the experience that blended with the worlds story and were usefull.

SE knows how to make quality and they are going to focus on making a great game where PvP dynamics do not creat a world riddled with gankers and the ganked.  Even L2 I have heard was often full of merely large groups of people looking for smaller groups or solo'ers to kill, though they had other aspects to their PvP.

Anywho, I was more concerned with how similar some things in Tera looked to FF14. But the gaming industry is all about adding aspects that were successful in other games to your game and making them your own (though FF14 isnt even finished yet and thats whats disconcerting) . I am sure Tera will be its own experience. I may even have to take part.  Make ma a high level char and go looking for Herny so I can gank him   :P

There were gank squads... or, otherwise, solo or duo gankers who would haunt certain areas (right outside Dion and in Execution Grounds was a common spot for them), looking for easy targets (read: people 10+ levels lower than themselves). In most other PvP MMOs I've played, it's agitated me because there was nothing a player could really do when they're at the mercy of someone who, by far, out-powers them. You basically have to deal with being someone else's cheap thrills until you're powerful enough that they leave you alone.
The beauty of L2, however, is that clans and/or alliances were very close and very protective of each other. You screwed with a clan member, and guaranteed (unless the clan was ultra-PvE and didn't want to ever get on anyone's bad side... those clans do/did exist), the rest of their clan members who were online and available would come out to help you.
Also, higher level players in L2 recognized the difference between PvP and pointless ganking. They would actively go after gankers who haunted lower level areas, harassing players. They realized that in order for a PvP MMO to flourish, you need *people* playing it. In order for it to not become stagnant you need a good flow of new people... They realized that the lowbie gankers were driving off many new players, thus making the high end game stagnant... so they took it upon themself to help out the newer players.
In short... Ganking/Griefing in L2 *is* possible... but it's a tough path to follow, because you never know who you're screwing with... or who their friends are. This actually made it rather exciting. If the same happens in TERA, and clans become that dedicated to watching the backs of their own clan-mates, that would be most excellent.

Sup all.  I see MMORPG has this MMORPG on the site.  I am following the game as well.  On a good note we know what to expect from NCsoft.  Take a look at Aion and yes I play it and I am level 42.  Very grindy game and most of my friends left when they hit 35. Still alot of potential in the game if they would just make leveling fun.

I have never heard of this game developer from Korea.  Have any of you?

I am going to be honest and currently I am leary of new games these days.  Most of the Korean games are grinders that lack content.  I am going to cross my fingers this time and maybe a Korean Developer will make a game fun to level in as opposed to killing the same mob or mobs in hte same area, level, move on, and rinse, repeat.

I like the idea of FFA PVP.  Wish I could do it in Aion and kill the bots hehe.  I like the targeting as it will make botting alot harder and it will take some skill.

     LOL your a funny guy.

    1. Pointless pvp that was what you got in FFXI the pvp was silly mini games more like. The point in L2 for pvp was for control of territory.

    2. Zomg they have somewhat similar graphix. ZOMG C0pyC@ts!!!i!!!i! lol you make me laugh

I really wanted to like Final Fantasy 11.  I REALLY DID, it wasn't the grind that turned me off before level 20, nor was its reliance on partying.  What turned me off was its god forsaken controls.  Only way for me to play that game was to connect a game controller since mouse look was abmyssal at best.

Also gotta remember this was a time before the 360 controller made Controller --> PC Game mapping as simple as plugging it in.

L2 PVP was great for a long time, but as bots took over it soon turned into something less.  As in people didn't really open pvp anymore.  When the map expanded and people had places to grind it died down a little as well, I remember when clans faught over the rights to Antharas Lair.  Literally, alliances massing just to fight for the right to exp in a certain place.

Artistically it does look sort of like FFXIV, but it's actually what was origionally Lineage 3, taken and developed by a different company, and turned into an entirely different game. lol
