It's OB!

It's OB! There, I said it. Now I'm going to get on with my criticism. It's not ready for primetime. OB should be final clean up. It should be stress testing. There shouldn't be load screens taking forever. There shouldn't be "use nvidia's 6 month old driver b/c the new one's are causing lag." There really shouldn't.

I like the premise of the game, but like we've talked about in the forums here, in countless threads, it's just not ready. The game is being released before it's ready for someone who just dropped $50+ to expect their monies worth.

The first 30 days that's free with the box are really a consolation prize to an incomplete MMO. It shouldn't be.

Again, I actually like the game, but the polish that needs to be there is missing.

btw, this entire post and this edit, was made during a single loading screen to get to Andorian space.

Agreed. They really need to delay this game atleast a month more to touch up some faults.

For the first time after so much burning thru quests since wow , I finally took my time to read the quests. There is alot of star trek lore involved and while missions can be go kill x amount of y things , its the story that is well put together.  The turotial missions were great but i wish they would have given a prolonged turotial about flying, it does take time to get used to. ship positioning while engaging also takes time and i found my reverse to become very useful.

one mission, which i wont spoil the lore, had me investigate a cargo ship. Yep its being attacked, I supress the attackers and beam on board.  Injured crewmembers littered the ship. as i went thru i was to escort some members back to my ship. If i was in wow mode i would have done just that. but i was not. I stopped to help every injured crew member then i beamed back to my ship. At the end of the mission i was given the chance to talk with the captian of the cargo ship. here I learned more of a race.

while i knew who they were talking about it does seem cryptic is going the extra mile to lure people who know little of the star trek universe.

Now i have not played C.O or other cryptic games so i really dont know why people fuss about it being co in space. The chance there are tons of people like me who never played coh or other cryptic games.

other than the lag and bugs I have found this game very entertaining and immursive. Wish the ground combat was a wee better. i did like the auto targeting when you finish a target and click your weapon for another attack.

I really enjoyed making my character and feel motivated to create my own lore of my character to fit into the star trek lore.

I am a big fan of the show,  TNG, voyager and ds9 fan. I know this game is nothing like the shows and well i didnt expect it to be. Our current technology cannot make a real star trek game.  I came in with an open mind to this game and didnt expect it to emulate the shows.

I did  however, go from the games lore standpoint. based after nemisis and now the federation is at war with the klingons. I am aware that diplomatic affairs in between the 2 now stand slim to none.

That said i can accept the combat focus nature of the game. I did hear there are some quests where force is not required and hope to do these quests and expect in the future there will be more.

The game grabbed my attention and its holding it. But as the OP states, the game needs more time its current state can turn off some potential players which is sad. We really do not need more games that start out big and due to not being polished or still in beta state, the game loses most of its subscribers.

Have we not learned from AOC and WAR?

While I have enjoyed the ob so far, it's got that shiny new game feel.  But I can see that it could be rather boring IF this was it over and over.

Also, directions on how to change appearence/crew/skills is very VERY vague.  There are 300 stores in the earth base, but until you open them, many of them do not tell you what they are used for.

A nice (weapons/armor) under there name would help remove a LOT of the people asking questions.  And a simple little "Find these NPCs and report back to me" quest to find where all the varies npcs are, would be great.

Spellborn really doesn't belong on this list the devs gave up on it and went f2p

Yeah I can see rough edges here and there, as expected. AT this point considering I've played MMO's since DAOC launched, I just have learned to accept it I guess. When I think back to games I started out in early on I remember the excitement of a new game launch. I really don't remember the bugs for the most part, except of course more recent titles. Though by then I had already been conditioned to ignore it.

At least today there are things to do on launch day, aside from everyone go overt and kill each other (anchorhead anyone?). DOes it suck that publishers always push these things out the door? Sure, but if you can't take it just wait a few months. Especially if you're one of the those who will never turn back when you feel burned. WHy anyone with that tendency would pick up a game on launch day is boggling.

Anyway you're right it probably needs a few more months. However it probably won't get them, if playing it as it is right now on launch day. Will make you give up and never go back, just wait like 6-10 months. By then you will know where the game stands and whether it has improved.

Yeah well those of us that were there said they needed to delay the release of UO.

Its not how its done. You release, you suck the cash, then if there is enough cash you fix.

Cryptic know this better than anyone.

On the bright side since its only champions with ST skins they will have less basic ground work to do working the bugs out.
