The main problem with a game like this is that it will be stocked in games shops world wide, now alot of people have played other Blizzard games and if you played Diablo or Diablo II online youll know that because its a shop game lots of kids can easily get hold of it and play. If WoW wasnt a Blizzard game and wasnt in the shops you would find the community would be a fraction of what it is and thus their would be less immature people.
Best thing you can do is ignore them, or look for a server without as many annoying people on.image

I have noticed it less on the servers (although more on the PvP than on the PvE servers) but the message board is horribly immature, unfortunatelly, as compared with virtually any other MMO. I agree that this is because it is a Blizzard game, but I don't think it's related to the fact that it's available in stores. Other games thath were sold retail (CoH, SWG, EQ2) don't have the community that this one does --- it's because Blizzard's other games have always had a strong following among younger gamers, and they have come to WoW as well in much higher numbers than to those other retail-sold MMOs.

The community is not the best, but of course I wouldn't expect it to me for such a popular mainstreamed MMORPG.

I am  a fan of EQ2 but i played world of warcraft yestterday and it was great. I had a great time with the community and it took me no more than a minute to get into a group.

There is a simple solution to everyone's problem. (I know I will probably get flamed for this)

    1. STOP PLAYING THE GAME

    2. Figure everything out on your own

    3. Change Servers

    4. Play with friends only

    5. ever wonder what /ignore is for??

people need to stop bitching about everything.  the community in game is no different from RL towns and cities.  In a lot of cases people in RL can be bigger dumbass jerks than anyone u will meet in game.

So go ahead and flame away this post.  but be warned if u do than u are only adding to the bad community u  are so passionate to bitch at.

People are people, and sometimes people tend to forget that those other player characters are being played by people as well. To expect everyone to roleplay at your level or act how you think you should act is not only going to set you up for a disappointment but it also makes you a jerk as well. Learn not to take it so seriously and things won't be so much of a headache.

If you must be around perfect roleplayers like you, then like Zprime said, find the closest server available that gives that, play with friends only, or make your own MMO that has one server and invite only the players who are serious about roleplaying.

I could care less about the "perfect role-players".  I just get annoyed when I see stupid questions like "Does ne1 kno wat I hafta kill for bear paws?"  Duh, maybe bears??? Maybe read your quest journal?

It's just annoying how lazy and stupid people can be.  I mean hell, how easy is the game in the first place compared to real grinds like EQ.

i think that part of the interface is VERY VERY poorly diveloped
so if pepole dont respond to your "hi's" that doesnt mean they saw it and ignored you
and if they do... just try to find a good mature guild. thats the best choice :)

I agree with the above, most often if I am paused in an area it means I usually have all my bags open or my skills window open to craft leather or...at which point the chat window fades away. I have, if I see someone has said 'hi' in the /says mode, which means it was near me, I try to PM them to let them know I didn't see their original comment.

    Also, thank you for this
    "/leave 1"
IMO General chat in any area is such a waste of time, I agree with most people who say if you wait and look around, you should find some decent people to play with. My ignore list is pretty long but it keeps me aware of who not to notice.

I have not played most of the MMOs listed, but I act with the same courtesy I hope for.

When I am asked to join a party, I thank them for the invite, if they don't understand the looting rules, I ask them, then explain them again. If they don't abide, I kick them from the group or I leave the group. Even then, I thank them for the grouping opportunity.

In reality, I spend a fair amount of my time solo or grouped with guildies if they are on. I have met some really nice people and while it does seem like a lot of immaturity abounds out there, I agree with the poster who stated that the mature players are the ones quietly playing the game and helping people out. That is where I am.

Haha... n00bs shouldn't form parties. I was playing with someone on an item collection quest and the a$$hole changed loot settings to "master looter". Psh. I challenged him to a duel, raped him, and left the party. Kinda makes you with more people were stupid. image

Too true, I get annoyed by that as well. Noobs create their chars in new areas, and immediately after getting some quest to kill X mob or get Y item they're asking "Where can I find X mob or Y item?" Does the concept of looking around, exploring, and finding stuff out for yourself hold anything for you? Gah! ::::12::

I'm sorry, but the whole WoW community being any more mature/immature then any other MMO community is a myth.  Many of the folks over at the Eve-Online Community would have you think they have the most mature community around.  I've played every MMO under the sun, and I can tell you.  That i've seen none that was any more mature then any other.
