Hm, looks like it's time for my annual LFGame thread. Yeah, getting bored yet again (or maybe constantly) and looking for some advice. One more try, heh. Oh, by the way - whenever I say something is good or bad it means it's just my opinion. I know these forums all too well, so just sayin
One of the things I'm looking for is consensual (that's the word?), objective-oriented, fun, dynamic PvP, so I can just come from work, grab a beer/tea and play for an hour or so but still have some feeling of acomplishment (ranking, PvP xp or whatever). That's not to say I dislike world PvP, but I'm not much into waiting to ambush someone (or get jumped on) for centuries. I know many of you will say WAR here, but I find it's PvP anything but dynamic, so that one's a no go. Oh yeah, the ability to level/progress/gain skill points through PvP would be a huge plus.
As for PvE I could pretty much repeat the above. I enjoy doing some quests once in a while(if well written then great, if not then oh well, skip mode), killing some random mobs for cash/crafting mats or hunt some rare spawns or set up a small team of friends to clear out a dungeon. So kinda casual here too, I truly and deeply despise any form of raiding, I leave my attention span at the office, thank you very much.
Another thing is engaging combat system. No, not FPS combat style, it tends to take away all my shiny buttons with spells and whatnot I like to press so much. If it's targetting + brazillion abilities to use then it's fine, otherwise meh, no MMORPGFPS can pretend to be CoD or something. I love AoC's combat, but the state of the game's PvP is kinda sad from what I remember.
I'd rather avoid 'classless full of freedom skill systems' which translate to '3 classes really' (Fallen Earth) or 'everyone is doing the same shit' (Darkfall, but feel free to correct me here as I haven't played it). I'd rather have my carebear, noob, casual, anti-innovation class system where I can choose from several paths at the start with the ability to specialize further on. Classless system might work in Ryzom, but I've yet to get some time to play the trial a bit. It definitely works in EVE, but I just hate this game almost as much as I hate Apple and MTV.
Crafting would be nice, but that's more of a flavor then a value for me. The more complex the better but no mini-game nonsense like in Vanguard.
I'm not gonna lie to you, I like loot. I'm not addicted to it, but I like when it has some meaning, not the way I remember it in AoC. It's fun to upgrade, but to some extent, not going crazy about it. The more variety the better, meaning more options on the same tier level rather then another brazillion of tiers. I like to have choice and not necessarily be forced to upgrade on a daily basis.
That's pretty much it I think. I really need some advice, because right now the only thing that's playable for me is a scrap of WoW, namely vanilla BGs.

Honestly, I'd try Lord of the Rings Online. I personally didn't pay past the first month around its release, but I do respect it and the Monster Play PvP sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

I would never suggest LotRO to someone looking for meaningful PvP. Monster Play was fun but nothing more than an after thought at best.
Im probably going to be roasted for this.
But alot of what you want is in WoW and it's implemented well.
Only got a hour maybe of gametime? Queue up for a BG to gain some honor or maybe use the LFG tool for a dungeon party. A class system that gives you paths to further specialization. Since you've played.. in all honesty.. thats all there is out there.
Try LOTRO but mehh,
Anyways, take care buddy.. im still looking around myself, i just cant seem to get myself wanting to play anything.. 09 was one of the worse years ever in terms of MMO releases and it looks like 10' might be a little bit better but we'll see.
ps.. SWKOTOR scares me with all this "story is first" speak, to me it screams.. private instances which is something i dont WANT!
go play FURY!!

Meaningful? No. Jump in and play? Yes, very.

Umm...it's dead jim...

As for Fury - as much as I like minigames and such I want them to be a part of the bigger whole, not the game core, besides the game is dead, so yeah, that's about it.
LotRO is a great game, but monster play is not really proper PvP. It might be fun, but only for so much time. I appreciate the game for what it is, but the general feel of the world and community is somewhat sleepy and lazy.
TOR, yeah, well. Seeing the DLC practice for DA:O and how will that be the case again for ME2 I'm not sure I wanna jump on the Biowagon anymore.
Yeah, looks like I'm either gonna get back to WoW which feels like a mall or get into Ryzom which is essentially a ghost town. I'm kinda looking forward to Secret World, but that's mostly because of the man behind the game and the fact that we know nothing about it yet. Was hoping for Mortal, but seems it's launch could actually beat the drama of Darkfall's, which I didn't think would be possible. Earthrise kinda disappeared or so I am told. I'd totally play AoC if they actually managed to make it a good PvP game.

Another suggestion would be to try out Vanguard, as they have an FFA PvP server. However, the game has very few players anymore.

From what you described that you like in a game....I think you perhaps ought to try the 10 day trial of Fallen Earth.

I really tried to like Vanguard, but it seems really, really empty plus it's dropping me to BSOD (first one I've experienced since like Win 98 I believe) due to some Vista64/Creative driver issue.
As for Fallen Earth, I got a level 35 Vista rifle chick there, but for now I'm holding on to see what will become of the game. The potential is there, but for now it lacks the diversity for me.
In the meantime fiance is downloading Mines of Moria and nagging me to do the same while I'm trying to get past the general weirdness of Ryzom.
