Sure hope not, but there is a 99% that will be the case. What do you guys think?
I'll let ya know what I think when I get to play it
That said, it being a "grindfest" isn't necessarily a bad thing. It comes back to whether or not you enjoy it personally. To listen to people here, you'd think Lineage 2 is one of the worst MMOs in existence because of the grind. Yet, overseas, it's huge and accounts for a significant amount of NCSoft's income.
It comes back to personal preference.
So, if you don't like a grindfest... then it may not be the game for you. However, it'll be perfectly fun for many others.

Every MMO is a grind, and personally I like to grind out on mobs and filling bars and unlocking things. Pretty much anyone that started with UO and EQ, then DAoC and FFXI are prolly all content with grinding.
These newer MMOs like WoW and LOTRO and well whatever, when I see players complaining that those are a grindfest, its just sad!
I like having the choice of quest grinding or mob grindng. WoW is horrid because you HAVE to do quests, and that is annoying, I more prefer the eq2 style where you can lvl either way.
My god has horns.... nah, I don't think he is real either.

lol really? You don't HAVE to quest in WoW I don't see how you came up with that theory to be honest. You're more than capable of grinding mobs all you want, theres a vid on mmo-champion of someone doing nothing but grinding mobs 1-80.
That being said TERA is a korean mmo, I have never played a korean mmo that doesn't have a grind. That doesn't mean it will be a bad game, I liked lineage 2 and it has arguably the biggest grind in any mmo to date. As long as its a polished game with lots of content and a lot of depth, plus good gameplay and combat i'll be playing it. I loved lineage 2 but hated Aion, one had a huge world lots of content and a huge grind, the other had a small world not even close to enough content and a small grind in comparison to lineage 2.
I would be really surprised if TERA didn't have the typical korean mmo grind. At the same time its not NCsoft so I can stay optimistic.

Let me rephrase, you dont have to grind quests, but the mobs give bullshit exp, so grinding quests is the best way to do it. I'd prefer is quests and grinding were on an even exp/hr playfield.

99% chance? And what factual data did you collect to arrive at that number?
Straight from his ass................
...or maybe everyone who plays these games or works in the industry (except you two, of course) knows that if a fantasy MMO comes out of Korea (that is where Bluehole Studios is based) it will be a grind-heavy game as that is both a consistent and defining trait of Korean MMOs.

I'm expecting to be as much a "grind" as Aion. I think they may be trying to aim at the western market as well, so they will most likely add enough quests to level you to a certain point, then you'll have to grind out mobs and such. At least, that is what I am expecting. I've been known to be wrong in the past.

That's a good point and it could depend on how well Aion does over here in the long run. If Bluehole feels the market is large enough to warrant the change in mechanics and localization, we could very well see a more western-friendly gameplay.

Join the forum community & supply your feedback to the development team! They stated it wouldn't be grindy a couple of times on there, and that they wanted the leveling process to be a relatively quick, and very immersive experience. They already adjusted the leveling progress speed due to feedback collected by the players in FGT (Focus Group Testing). And posted a list of changes on the regular forum explaining the changes they made to the game based off the western player responses. If you want the game include or exclude certain features, your best bet would be to communicate with them instead of hoping
@Bronecar I sort of am, yeah. I haven't put it in my signature yet haha.
& The XP curve was already modified during CB2 to make it much quicker, as well as a ton more quest options. And that was just for Korea, they are listening very intently to the player-base, even over here. Join the community and communicate with the devs.
I think there's something about grinding that appeals to the eastern mindset. Maybe by their standards it won't be grindy, but remember this is the group that made L2, so I'd be very surprised if it weren't. Not that that's a bad thing (in fact I miss group grinds in recent MMO's), but I think you're kidding yourself if you expect TERA to be non-grindy.

Every game is a grind fest, not a single one of them isn't, whether it's questing over and over, killing over and over or crafting over and over. The only question is, how will the players, and the developers, handle the grind?

I don't believe we've ever been given any information to indicate it won't be a grinder.

I sure as hell hope the game is not a quest based WoW clone.

I'll take two guesses:
1. It's an Eastern MMO
2. You see them fighting stuff in the videos.

Im hoping for a massive grindfest like no other, that encourages open pvp for hunting spots and world bosses.
As long as combat is fun, with enjoyable pvp and pve, the level cap could be over 9000 for all i care.

I take it you're not interested in FFXIV?

My guess is it will be the same type of grind as say Aion.
You will have just enough quests and will probabaly have to grind on mobs at certain times to get your levels.
It's a korean game so you know it's going to feel "grindy" to the NA community.

No, I don't think so. This is a korean game, and korean games are never grindfests. This will be no exception.

all games are grindfests. Korean games have great graphics tho.
