Are MMO's meant to be best played with real life friends?

Like many people WoW was the first MMO I tried, based on the recommendations of a group of gaming pals from an xbox website. About twenty of us made a guild and helped each other out. The numbers did dwindle over time, but that first experience of an MMO with people I already knew (but not met) made it what it was.

Nothing since has equalled that buzz, and we've never managed more than a handful of friends playing the included ffree month of a game before people tire and go off.

Part of that initial buzz was of course that it was a new experience for me, but I've never really settled into a guild in other games I've played.

I still play MMO games, and I play solo most of the time. Its not half as much fun.

So, as to your question, no i dont beleive they are better with RL friends, but the experience is a lot better when you play with a group of people you are comfortable with. A cross-game clan/ webiste would be a good place to look. Get to know some folks before the release of something good....theres plenty of time lol

Common sense is not a Sixth sense

Cross-game clans? How do you find them and are there any for European players like me?

I was in an adult-only guild (18 yrs+) called ARCH during my stint with Warhammer Online. Although they still exist through multiple games (AoC, WAR, Pirates etc.), they have sense changed their name to "The Collegium." I had no qualms with them, but rather with WAR ;-)

I'm not sure of your age, but here are the forums that discuss guidelines etc.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that there were several European players in the guild as well.

MMO's are kind of like social networking site except you have stuff to do together. Other than going out and having a few beers, you stay at home and quest. And maybe have a few beers at the same time. I've met some kewl people playing WoW. Even had a buddy's 2 guild members fly up from New Zealand to hang out.

Getting too old for this $&17!

Of course  yes... because it's a virtual community and like in  real life you need to interact and communicate in the game....this makes the game more fun to play because for me it is the reason why I still play Flyff. Even though I'm hooked right now in Atlantica Online...    Our guildmates becomes our real friends already. We already meet in real life specially in  the event for flyff... it's our bonding moment to get  to know each other and like in real game we can now trust them. And same in Atlantica Online and other games.... Friends is very important even though  it's a virtual world you can help your friends leveling up, in  AO we always      play in a party  to support each other.
