Put simply, Global Agenda is a shit-ton of fun. The classes are each engaging, the combat is always intense, and even though the matches are 10 v 10, the fights never feel "small".

If you played Starsiege : Tribes back in the day, I'd strongly advise this title. Furthermore, if you've grown tired of the typical MMO playstyle, but don't want to play a bunny-hopping twitch-fest either, then I would strongly encourage giving this game a shot ; it'll really scratch the tactical team-based shooter itch that, frankly, no game has scratched for well over a decade.

Alright, then maybe you could help me out here. I'm running a laptop with an 8400M GS on it. Will GA run smoothly without having to compromise? I'm not normally a graphics guy(Love FE), but it still concerns me.

EDIT: To Clarify, I have 4 gig of Ram and a Duo core, 1.5Ghz each. I'm mainly worried about the graphix card.

Th more I see the more I like it. It reminds me of Team Fortres 2 or Warhammer Online's Scenarios.

I don't need another Team Fortress 2, I'm fine with what I have. When you said "Warhammer scenarios" I went, oh god, because those were horrible for the first year and a half.

    Wait...

    You say it's like Tribes...

Then you say "but don't want to play a bunny-hopping twitch-fest either"...

    I'm confused now...

At a base, that's all Tribes was. Pretty much everything great and awesome about Tribes came from Renegades and the gargantuan stack of modifications, customization, and enjoyment they stacked on top of the at the time innovative combat style of flight and hill hopping.

Between it and Planetside, I'd still opt for Planetside. Nothing has beaten that game on the battlefield and strategy front yet for me.

As a stand alone shooter its great, but the RPG side needs to be more about equipment and talent trees im afraid. I honestly couldnt see myself subbing to play conquest. It certainly looks like great fun and has a very good world domination concept what with all the buildings and vehicles you can build, but they expect us to pay £8 a month for it? Maybe if it were a little cheaper, but thats only a little bit less than I can pay for a full on MMO. Conan only costs about £10 a month for example.

Dont get me wrong, I can understand why youd have to pay a sub for it, but there needs to be a lot more on offer to make it good value. Ill be holding off subbing until I can see improvements to crafting and what new PVE modes theyre putting in. Until then, ill be staying with the ftp part which is enjoyable enough to justify my £28 outlet. Theyve promised 2 new pve modes, double the amount of pve maps and lots of new conquest locations, but ill hold my money off until I can see it.

I am the same way. I love playing the game. Kicking butt and taking names but they need to add more to the RP part of it before I will pay monthly. This still have time to add more stuff. They just need a steady core fanbase. I will still play this because TF2 is getting old for me but I would like to see more RP. I wish they had a better loot system.

I'm not sure if you played the original tribes or not, but tribes definitely wasn't all about the bullshit bunny hopping and head-shotting. It was about tactical aerial combat, moving in to attack with your squad, and fights that weren't over in the blink of an eye - with emphasis on defensive play and siege-assault-style attacks.

On that note, if you've played Planetside, I would say that the combat is very similar to planetside's combat, only with the addition of flight, melee, and higher survability. In short, like if Planetside and Tribes were to have a baby.

Also, I agree with other posters that it'd be nice to have more "MMO content" for the game - however, I'll reaffirm that I don't feel like the game is an unfinished product. It's fun right out of the box, it stays fun, and aside from that, you can run PVP matches and PVE matches forever without ever paying the monthly fee - the only thing that the monthly fee unlocks, as far as I know, is the whole Alliance vs Alliance bit.

True story. Can't really bunny hop in a bunker. That game was great. Only if GA had big maps like that and offered more boost in the jet pack like tribes.

Ok, lets say i actually enjoy[ed] Warhammer Scenarios . I don't really care about PvE [and killing 10 rats over and over] and basically just jump in action with a little RPG [aka "Character development"] somewhere. Would this game do that?

I don't want GuildWars "just roll a max level char" either, as then it IS Team Fortress/Unreal Tournament. I would like to actually build up a character, going into different "arenas" or "scenarios" as i level up.

    Requirements:

    1. I won't have 9 buddies to play this game in a "premade" fashion, just like WAR, it must actually be able to randomly throw me in a "scenario" .

i.e. comparing this to Counterstrike, you usually play it with people you know or at least "set up" the map. I don't want that [initially], i want to log on,  queue up and PvP, whether i know the players or not.

    2. The actual combat mechanic must be fun. It must be "snappy" and "smooth and not like Fallen Earth or SWG FPS-hybrid combat. In FE/SWG it all sounds great in theory but it still actually HORRIBLE when doing it [nevermind how your stats can result in you missing someone right in front of you, overriding your skill] .

    3. As i said, i want to "level" and pick skills and specialise....i want to "play" to unlock/advance. I don't want it handed on a platter, because then what is the point?

  • SpellshaperSpellshaper Member UncommonPosts: 419

GA seems to be game exactly for you. If you dont mind instances only. Also in GA there are 30 levels, where u unlock skills and so on... and you get these levels quick. After that there are another 20 levels, but these unlocks only better looking armors.

Yes the game is fun. I got my moneys worth in the first week I bought it back in beta. does not matter if you want to play the f2p version with no AvA it is still as much fun.

    Do you like?

Team based player vs player combat?

    Twitch fps/tps action?

    rpg style character advancement?

    Competitive continuous GvG?

    Great Graphics?

if so you will probably like GA

Sounds like its what youre looking for, particularly point 3. It also uses a normal fps/tps gameplay style so its not a swg or tabula rasa fps/rpg hybrid (although your stats can be increased in GA to do extra damage, healing, more defenses or whatever).

I'm not sure you really played Tribes much or know the real game. I used to play competition and rarely played mods. The game was better balanced without the mods.

Also, let me clarify something. GA is not 30 level cap. Its 50. If you played the pre-release event you can see some items that had lvl 50 requirements.

Medics can be deadly. In the Beta before the pre-release event, the medics were able to deal plenty of deaths.

I dont know much about crafting.

Auction house isn't a big deal. Easy enough to find what you want.

Gameplay IS similiar to the true Tribes and the feel of the game is fast. So far I am loving it and I've played ~6 hours.

I agree that the game is alot of fun, very well polished and runs very smooth.

However the subscription portion of the game needs more IMO. I am willing to pay to play if the features are there.

AvA atm does not offer enough for me to pay for at the monthly rate they are asking.

The free portion of the game will be worth the purchase price easily for those who enjoy this type of game.  As for myself I will wait and see what they come up with in the future for AvA and decide to purchase or not then.

  • MechanicusMechanicus Member Posts: 77

I bought this game purely based on the reviews from MMORPG.com

I have to say, I won't be doing that again! I got to level 10 in the head start with 2 characters. Now, although we can 'apparently' get to level 50, all the skills run out around level 30. At this rate I can envision loads of high level people running about before the free month even finishes

I haven't played AvA yet, because I only just found out you need 10 people to get in there (I had hoped it was PuG) so you are forced to join an Agency if you want to play what is apparently a major portion of the game. I was told that AvA will get better 'in a few weeks or so'. Well, that's very nice for  those who wait until then to buy the game (which I would have done if I had known the game was, essentially, incomplete). But in the meantime my free month is ticking away.

Add into this the fact that I (and others on the official forums) have got problems with loading times, which basically mean if you play PvE, the rest of your team are halfway through the map before you finish loading. It happens on PvP too, but at least thankfully there is a timer on that mode. No word as yet from an official.

All in all, a disappointment, both in the game and MMORPG.com's scoring.

Feel free to flame away, I just wanted to air my grievances.

    Current MMO: None
Previous MMOs: WoW, Guild Wars, SWG, EQ2, LotrO, Vanguard, Matrix Online, AoC, Ultima Online, Fallen Earth, D&D Online, Champions Online, Aion, Rift.

    Honest question here:

How do you guys feel about paying for a game monthly for the same type of gameplay you can get for free ala Counter-strike or Battlefield, etc...

Maybe I'm wrong, does it offer more?

I still play tribes. And I'm still very much so gonna stand by the claim that it caters well to bunny hopping and head shotting. Hell, all most players use is the sniper laser and one shot people after bouncing halfway across the map, or if it's small enough you just stand by a corner of your own base and plink away, the only other heavily used load out is heavy armor and the mortar gun to bomb the hell out of people, and guess what they use jetpacks for, nothing.

Most the time the longest you live is however long it takes you to make it to their base if you're mediocre. You kill a few guys, damage their base shields so others can get in to destroy the generators before they can repair, you run on back over to kill a few more people after taking out their equipment terminals if they haven't all ready been.

And yes, you hop, a lot.

Iunno what Tribes you're referring to, but you might need a refresher to the reality of the game. It's free now so you can try it out again any time.
