Darkfall Is Awesome - Hurry Up and Join!

oscarkool2oscarkool2 Member Posts: 127

I finally caved in last week and decided to shell out 50 bones and get the game.  And, like everyone else lately, I am having a blast.  A lot of people are scared off by the full pvp/loot system and it makes sense to be scared.  I was that way too because I am coming from world of warcraft where I have two level 80's with Ulduar/Tourny gear.  I quit right when the Ice Crown patch went live.

Darkfall is just awesome.  It's really hard to put it in words how fun the game is, so I'll just talk about what I did today.  Me and this guy I met today randomly decided we would go head over to a clan station and look for some guys harvesting the plants for herbs.  We took off all of our gear knowing that we may easily be killed.  We headed over to one of the clan stations and saw 2 guys harvesting naked as well (it's smart to harvest naked so you don't get ganked by people like us lol).

We approach the two and one of them immediately mounts and runs away leaving his friend, lol.  We kill the guy, loot his stuff and head east a bit.  There's nothing there so we head back a little while later and we run into the clan leader of the guy we killed who immediately destroys both of us.  Not a big deal lol we were griefing and deserved to be killed.  But still fun.  Sneaking around and doing shit like this is always fun and exciting.

Later in the day, some guy thought he would be tough and tried to kill me while on his mount.  My friend was hiding behind a tree waiting for him to go rogue (this happens once the guy attacks me).  He goes rogue, my friend pops out and we burn the guys mount down and kill it.  So now he's off the mount and starts chasing me, determined to kill me of course.  Being the noob that I am, I run towards my town knowing that the only way this guy will die is from the guard tower (though looking back on it, my friend could have killed him).  But still, the guy dying to the guard tower is 20 times funnier than us just killing him.  Insta death and we loot his shit.  So great.

The vets will obviously not find this that exciting, but to me and other people just joining, this is what makes Darkfall great.  That fact that you can pretty much do anything you want and, using your brain, you can still kill people left and right.  There's no limits other than the fact that people that have been playing longer have stronger characters (just like in any mmorpg).  However, they are still definitely killable as I have done multiple times.  What I described above is just from today over a span of two hours.  Yesterday I had a guy die to a tower again and I got 2 mounts off of him.  Serves him right for trying to jack my ore :P

I've been playing for 5 days now and really looking forward to the next 5 and then 5 after that.

And I haven't been grinding at all.  I don't know why you people keep telling everyone about this major grind.  Sure, if you want to skill up in the quickest time possible, then kill a million mobs just like in any other mmorpg.  Or, you can do all the quests in the 3 towns around you, go do some wild pvp with a friend, take on some harder pve mobs with a buddy, go take your bow out and go shoot at people harvesting to watch them freak out, harvest some berries, craft (which I didn't even get into and it's awesome), or just bullshit in the public chat which is very much like Barrens chat.

If you're on the fence, give it ago.  Stop trying those free trials for all those hand holding, linear games like LoTR, conan, warhammer, etc.  They won't satisfy you and we both know it.  So man up and try Darkfall.  If you don't like it, you can turn around and sell your account and get some money back :P

If you want to take the jump, PM me here first so I can help get you started.  And we can run around and have fun :)

Nice to see someone has joined and worked out how to kill older players by teaming up, instead of crying on forums that they can't take a vet after two weeks of killing Goblins and logging! Hope you guys continue to have fun and remember,

That's only fun for a few hours maybe, and then you realize that you need to afk macro and pve bugged out mobs etc. in order to be able to hold your own against anyone in the game other than the naked noobs you enjoy ganking.

Not true.  There are plenty of players like me who have played for months and are still fairly week stat wise.  Almost any player in the game could get the jump on me and kill me, and vice versa if I am smart.

As opposed to what? Grinding for tokens the next three months.. Or perhaps raiding for just as many?

I played UO for years, and now I'm playing DF, I havent ever afk macroed... I play for the journey. You don't need to afk macro, just raise your skills... you know, play the game...

If you want to kill vets your first week or three, solo, I'd suggest Guild Wars

I played with a "I'm now powerful enough yet to take on another player" mentality for a while. Anytime I got attacked I'd just run and die. One day I was decided to just go all out on this red attacking me and got him down to less then half health left. I didn't kill him but that's when I realized I do have a lot better chance then I thought I did against more advanced players.

Haha, sounds like you had a good beginning. I'm going to start Darkfall sometime next week when I get paid so bring on the pain! :D

Turn and run = 9/10 you die.

Turn and fight = Your chances of survival are no worse and you might get some nice loot and a warm fuzzy feeling inside after you loot him!

Carry an R10-30 two handed weapon as you gather. If attacked whip it out and go for it, the chances are no worse than if you run! Took me a while to learn this!

Also if you spend a lot of time near water carry a r30 ish bow and 30-50 arrows with aquashot.  Otherwise you can use jumpshot.  I have kited and jumpshotted would be gankers to death, and now that I spend most of my time gathering on islands I have switched and have lured them into the water and killed them with aquashot.

Alot of good stories in this thread. The urge to buy just grows and it was so much easier when this board was a flame war :)

Glad to see this game is doing well and that the journey is what counts.

Its not attributes that are the big gap its the skills vets have in thier possession. Hell im into my 4th week and I still dont have anything but lesser magic because I simply dont have the time IN GAME to work on everything. I finally got GA mastery and feel pretty proud about that, but there is no way im going to be more then a moving target to a vet with all the other skills they were able to buy and level.

    Its really...that simple.

I played the game from day 1 and Im way behind the top guys, yet I still have fun playing.

Fighting against the random better character here and there just makes things more interesting and challenaging.

4 weeks and you don't even have greater magic?! ....

Skills are easy to get, HP is not. You can get all the skills you need to be competive in 2months easily. If this was launch I'd agree with you, but now it takes like a day to make out any magic school

Many of us have known of Darkfalls awesomeness for a good while. I just feel sorry for those suckers that grew a hatred towards the game in its early days and refuse to cough up a bit of money to give it a try. It's been out for a year - Join up whilst it's still young!

Bingo. That's the secret (if there is one). Diversity. Don't spend all your time grinding on a single activity... mix it up instead... and a funny thing happens.. the game doesn't feel like a grind. Imagine that! This goes for any MMO.

Well... won't agree with that. I  like Darkfall... but I still enjoy some of those more "handholding" type games. The two types aren't mutually exclusive. Believe it or not, it is possible to enjoy each play style. The trick is to enjoy each for what it is.

so.... you want more people to run around naked with.... and cheat on other games.... what grade are you in? This isn't high school. I'm sorry your imaginary GF and your other MMOs aren't leaving you satisfied. this game sounds like a sausage fest/high school reunion the way you talk about it.

I'm surprised how so many people can just buy stuff without trying it.

Darkfall wouldnt be the first or the 15th game i thought sounded cool but then blew anyone who came along when it came time to check it out for myself.

I agree...this one has had such mixed reviews I would prefer to try before I buy.  Unless there's a recruit a friend option :D  But I have no friends who play :( So I guess I wait.

Darkfall is all about risk vs. reward ;D

Open your eyes; read what other players are saying about the game and make your own judgement. There are plenty of youtube videos, PLENTY of player stories, plenty of longterm players that still can't wait to log in every day. I'm one of those that believes that free trial accounts would hurt the game. Darkfall is all about player accountability. If you give people the ability to run a free account with a character they have no connection to, there would be havoc in the game. Paying players tend to care about their characters reputation because it can have a serious effect on your game. (eg. Ginger Magician - unless he wants to start all over again, he can't escape that name and is forever being hunted.). Darkfall with a free trial is just asking for a chan-raid!

Have the free trial gated by a valid credit card number. Most 4chan people are too young to have credit cards.
