It isn't bugs that make Star Trek Online feel unfinished, however. It's the inherent shallowness. It's light, airy, and simple--attributes that might attract you at first but only let you down when you find that the game is more boring than bold.

Never argue with idiots. They are immune to logic.
The point is..sometimes gamespot hits the nail
Holy crap! 5.5! Hahahahaha! I can't say I disagree!
Truer words were never spoken.
Haha indeed.
This is the same Gamespot that gave Eve online 6/10 when it first released! I bet you "haha"ed then too.
And look at Eve now, no more Haha from you there now eh?
How shortsighted some people are, as if they don't Know what MMOs are like, I can forgive Gamespot as they may not know any better, but someone who has a registered account on MMORPG.com should really know a bit about MMOs doh!
Haha indeed.

Eve was shite at release, and is somewhat bearbale now. What is ur point? The review of the game was 5 years ago, and yes the review was preety accurate for the game then. I would still give Eve a 6/10.
Haha indeed.

I like WOW, yes wow, daoc, GW and hopefully Darkfall soon:).
oh well i don't care what kind of review anyone gives, I really enjoy STO
Have No Fear Cohas is here!!!
I wouldnt trust any mmorpg review relased not even 3 weeks after the game went live. They cant tell my they played past Lt, cause they wouldnt complain about the game being to easy if they had met the Crystalline Entity or some of the later Defend xy missions. But yeah i can agree with some of the points, interesting review.
Hehe WoW is one of the best MMOs there is, I have 4 lvl 80s. Have you tried AoC recently it is vastly improved since release.
Anyway, Live and let live, STOL has not arrived at its destination but I am optimistic.
Haha indeed.

And your point is ? Sto will follow Eve's steps and be successful in 5 years, right ?
Haha indeed.
The Crystaline Entity is a super tedious annoyance. Rather than a fun challenge.
Even the most casual players reached Lt.Cmdr within a week. It's really not that hard.
The only people that haven't reached that far yet, are the unfortunate non-US people that had to endure all the unexpected downtimes during EU primetime the last weeks.
Just like the 1UP review. This review is spot on!
And about EVE Online. EVE Online managed to grow and expand and become better, because they had a solid foundation to build on at launch.
STO doesn't have that. As the Gamespot reviewer hit the nail on the head with. Some of the inheret flaws are in the Core Design of the game and in such, won't be fixed.
Do yourself a favor and don't compare STO to Eve, or Cryptic to CCP. You just make yourself look like an ass.
What are you talking about? Did you comprehend my post or just skim through it?
Where did i compare Eve to STOL?
PS:You should read the post properly otherwise you look like what you accuse me of. And there is no need to be nasty about it. If you have a point than express yourself without the need to result to such words.
Haha indeed.

From what I understand EVE was small and unifinished when it was released, and it was that way by design (even so, the review score may have been perfectly apt at the time.) However, EVE was always designed to be epic and huge. The developers knew they would grow the universe to huge proportions.
Interestingly enough, EVE was completely passed over an unnoticed when it was first released. CCCP grew its subscriber base through many free updates and intelligent game management.
STO has been designed to be small and uninteresting from the very beginning. The heavy use of instances, the very chopped up universe, the shoebox sized space, the lack of any game mechanics other than combat. These things make STO small, these things are unlike EVE in every way.
Will STO grow? Probably a little bit. But not much. How do I know? Because of what Cryptic did with City of Heroes. City of Heroes was Cryptic's baby. It was their first game, and you can tell that game was crafted with love and care. Soon after it was released, Cryptic lost all interest in it and cut the post development team to the bone. City of Heroes is largely the game it is today because of the time, money and effort NCSoft put into the game after they bought it from Cryptic. Their development team at Paragon Studios is now up to around 150 people, they are releasing a new graphical update to the game, a new free expansion in Issue 17 and a new paid expansion.
The very best things that could happen to STO at this point is that it get sold to NCSoft who hand it over to Paragon Studios to improve.
At this point in time, STO may have flaws too deep to fix, and the negative scores it is receiving all over the internet are probably an accurate indicator of how the game stands now.
You made a direct parallel between STO and Eve reviews and insinuated a relation in respect to Eve's current success. Maybe you didn't mean it to come off that way, but it did. Considering other posterss are calling you out on the same thing perhaps its you that should word your post properly.
Amazingly it's still more fun than Aion, WAR and AoC... at launch.
IGN gave this a 6.8 bu remember they gave WAR a 9. Shows how much they know :-p
I mean one of the missions sets you backwards in time where you fight the original Klingons (without the ass heads) and the guardian of time, even saving the starship enterprise from attack and being hailed by spocks voice.
Then shortly afterwards there's a nod to the "doomsday" machine episode...
I mean yeah bugs are there, PvE needs beefed up, but at least there's an engine that works (WAR and PotbS could look on at that). it's certainly a lot more fun than.. champions online ever could be.
The fact you can create and customize you're entire bridge crew is fun, and there's a lot of promise in there. Of course it's a more casual game and you'll hit the top marks in no time. Depends what you look for in an MMO, at the moment we're at the stage where gamers in MMOs are taking 2 subs in order to stop "burn out" and of course with the price of those 2 a months, it's still cheaper than blowing £40 on a console game to have it done in 5-7 hours and no replayability. (dantes inferno, assassins creed 2.. hell even mass effect 2 is dull to me just now... even if i enjoyed it).
If Cryptic can get 3 large content patches within 6 months it'll do something both WAR, AoC and PotBS could not do.... and if they fix the bugs along the way, those reviewers will be shown the morons they truly are anyway. I read reviews for opinions nothing else, because they normally know squat or like ign heavily biased.
Please if people actually played decent games EA sports titles would not hit the "sales charts" every year and people would have bought fantastic games such as "Beyond Good and Evil".
take anything with a pinch of salt, this game has less bugs than the PC KOTOR when that was released and man did that have bugs... oooh people have short memories and the majority are clearly morons anyway :-o ooops..
well come on XFactor and crap being most watched shows, reality tv.... bush having 8 years in power... gordon brown still in power (no one actually voted him in), and the italian president walking through a tiger woods scandal like he's a god (mostly because he owns the tv companies there)

My post is worded properly.
You have changed your tune now, first you say i compare Eve to STOL, ie the games and now you say that i insinuated a relation in respect to their successes, two totally different things, you seem confused, make up you mind what you want to say , instead of chopping and changing with each of your posts.
And because another misguided poster, Cyanur, can not believe that STOL cannot be successful does not mean it won't be lol. Funny short sighted empty vessels.
Hm, I don't know about the future of Star Trek Online, but at the moment, the review is largely consistent with my experiences. Might just be my opinion, might be that the game will be better in five years, but I think the rating is justified and the reviewer did make some good points.
Instead of arguing about the credibility of this review, why don't you all say what you agree/don't agree with and how you would have rated it differently? Even though a good review always tries to remain as objective as possible, the opinion, views, likes or dislikes of the reviewer will always play a role, so different people will have different views on how fitting or unfitting a review is, no point arguing about it.
And what I don't understand is...EVE's review was five years ago...if this wasn't the same reviewer as it was back then, what is the point about mentioning it? Even if it is the same site, if the person making the review is different, you can't exactly say both reviewers are not to be believed...
As usual, the second someone mentions another MMO in comparison to the topic at hand, the rapid fans and trolls jump into the mix. The topic isn't about Eve; leave off already.
STO has, by my own reckoning, the most shallow MMO gaming experience I've even seen. How anyone could have sat inside the development team and stated, "Yes, we're almost ready to launch," is completely laughable. I think Gamespot has a very accurate review of STO as it stands right now.
Its not about the reviewer it is about the condition of the game. Eve was in a bad way when it was reviewed, hence the low mark given by Gamespot. Same as STOL is now, if we can put it like that.
But that does not mean that it can not get better. And if you know anything about MMOs then you will know that they do get better(even the mighty WoW was not what it is today). I sited Eve as an example cause it is now very successful despite its early state(and because it got about the same mark from the same site all those years ago). So if Eve can improve then i cannot see why STOL cannot.
My posting of that rubbed the trolls the wrong way because it implies that even though gamespot gave it a bad review(which sits well with them) it does not mean it will be forever bad and distracted from the bad score. Trolls for whatever reason that drives them did not like this.
I can assure you that there were similar trolls around in the time that Eve was released that would have made similar comments, but are now hiding like the shallow posters that they are.
Same as what happened with AoC, how many people said that if will fail, even going so far as putting failcom as their avatar. And yet it has not failed, on the contrary it is going from strength to strength and has an expansion out this year. "Failcom" I thnk not. Since I will not be able to find these guys in 5 years time when STOL maybe succesful i challenge them now.......
good review, very accurate.
having said that i played till just short of admiral and relized i was only logging in to make admiral, as the game as it sits now just isnt enjoyable.
i hope they fix it and ill put a few more dollars into another months subscription in maybe 6 months. to be honest if they were rating the game as an mmo(finished) the score was much to high im my opinion. even auto assault was more fun and interesting and lasted 6 months i think?
honest question, if you bought the game would you be paying for a second month of this game if it didnt have the name "star trek" attached to it?
i can very honestly say i wouldnt even have considered it, and that i wouldnt be thinking of coming back in 6 months for another go if it wasnt star trek.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
