properbly been said by someone else in this thread BUT OMFG HOW IS PVP _INTERACTION WITH OTHER PPL !!!!!

Usually pvp consists of more then 1v1.  Typically, it is a groupVSgroup, guildVguild, or RvR.  You frequently are in vent or some form of chat interacting with the people in your group, guild, etc.

I can't stand PVP, it seems to get old too fast.  He kills me I kill him he kills me I kill him..next....he kills me I kill him..yawn....

PVE is great and it's great with a group of friends.   I have yet to play PVP where it gives me the same sense of adventure, mystery and accomplishment as PVE does.  I do have friends that swear by it and can't get enough of it.   To each his own.

I have played WoW for over two years, and SWG for over three. I've played a few other MMO's also, but I have never done any PVP in any of them. I don't understand why people take all that time to grind their characters to the max level just to go kill other players, what's the point of that?

I've played Lotro for a couple years and never touched the player vs. monster.

Yes I would especially if it was decent story based PvE content with a lot of group activities. If  this game was a F2P it would be just awesome. The biggest thing F2Ps do to make money is add benefits to CS  that usually over powers some players to make others easy pickings in PK or PvP without PvP some players being super powerful would not matter because it would all be a competition over who does more DMG but it wouldnt really affect anyones experience like getting ganked or owned because you dont have real life money.

FFXI is kinda like this but its a P2P game. Since there is little to zero  PvP in FFXI there are people who do a lot of end game activities with gear that is vastly inferior to others but no one minds, reason behind it is the end game is doable with both amazing good gear, and basic decent gear.

People paid for LotRO before the "Monster battles" or whatever the official name is, didn't they? I think that sums it up right there.

No, I tried LotRO and it was very boring, not going to play another PVE only game again.

This is one of the first question polls here on the forums that actually made me take pause.

First of all, I voted yes.  Now as I've sat here thinking about it and reading the other responses.....I'm conflicted (no pun intended).

I play games in every single known genre of gaming from FPS to RTS to MMO to RPG to casual/puzzle and everything in between. I just really enjoy GAMES. So while I WOULD probably play it....if you were to alter the question to include the length of time I would continue to play, meaning over the course of years....I would have to qualify my answer.

Any MMO that gives the player more options....the more options the better....on how they're going to "live" in the game world, is going to be better and more immersive and enjoyable to me over a longer period of time.  I don't think a strictly PvE game would have high sustainability for me, personally. The thing I love the most about MMOs is......choices. Whether I take advantage of every single game play option in a game, is another thing, but....

I WANT options, and loads and loads OF them. That is what makes the world more viable and "alive" for me. Those options include character customization (the more the better), housing, appearance gear AND practical armor BOTH, PvE and PvP, crafting, questing, mini-games, races and classes (the more the better), and lots and lots of places to explore, and any other kinds of choices that can be rolled in there, including having different ways of solving problems or completing quests, rather than only one fixed way.

Another thing about PvP....whether I choose to participate in it or not...having it there, either in regions, battlegrounds, or as part of possible scenarios for completing some quests, or obtaining some special item or crafting material, etc....makes the game world feel more REAL to me. Having a "real" enemy in the game world just feels appropriate to me. On the other hand....I'm not particularly fond of gank-fests or newbie killing as a "sport." If there is PvP...even open PvP....I want it to have a REASON for being there, and I want to feel a reason for participating in it. But ideally...I'd also like to have a choice in THAT matter, along with all the other choices I'd like to have in a game.

Yeah, I know....it's kind of asking a lot.

I can say this much....I'd be more apt to play a pure PvE MMO than a pure PvP MMO. Because to me, a purely PvP MMO is really nothing more at the end of the day than an FPS dressed up in fantasy armor and weapons. Pure PvP....doesn't work for me.  And pure PvE....I don't think that really does either, although....I'd PLAY either one. I'm just unsure as to the longevity of my interest in games that limit my options.

It's all about OPTIONS in MMOs to me. The more....the better. And I mean ALL kinds of options, not just PvP or PvE.

I would most definitely play a game with no PVP. I dislike PVP, but that's mainly because I feel that I have really bad fighting skills depending on the game. Atlantica Online has a Free League which is their PVP and I avoid it like a plague. I've played it once and that was only to get Fame points so I could enter a dungeon. I have to do Free League again for a Mercenary Quest but I have had no interest in doing so.

I also feel bad when I do PVP, I don't like fighting other players, it seems rude almost and I always have a nagging feeling the person is going to hunt me down and slaughter me for taking them out. So, yes, I'd enjoy and play a PVP free MMO.

well mostly PvP systme is for people to blow off a bit of steam that they goot from work/school. i can honestly understand the whole PoV on PvP aspect but seriosely people who take it as a way of life and consentrate on mainly PvP are somewhat dangerous. PvP is mainly killing another person with no good reason... and most of the people are sick of wars? realy you say you sick of worse and go kill another person in a virtual game. this might be realy stupid excuse why i don't realy like the PvP system. but i'm sick of having wars in my country and than try to relax in some PvE and face another gaddam racist who calls me name and offend me ingame so either grow up ingame and find a good reason to engage in PvP but ingame the PvPers usualy sneak up on you when you doing PvE and it encourage all the bad aspects some players try to avoid in real life when they come to play the mmo.

this is just an idea of an old mmo player. all said and done hf tc and gl on w/e you chose XD

I knew a gentle, religious guy who would only raid and kill in pve only. He thought pvp would turn him violent and nasty IRL.

  • SwampRobSwampRob Member UncommonPosts: 1,003

All the games I play are effectively PvE only games.    If the game has open PvP, I won't play it.   If the game has zones that are open PvP, I won't go into them.

I played Eve for a short-while but once I found out I couldn't mine in lo-sec solo without being ganked, I quit.    I was attacked only one time and managed to escape, but that was the last time I played.     Too bad, I found Eve enjoyable otherwise.

Yes 100% and it would be +10% more if it has crafting.

If the game was really good then yes i would play a pve only game. There is some competion in my bones so I would still sub to a game with PVP.

(BBBBBBBBBWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH developers at blizzard turn down the raving Rabbid's bid to have plunger in game citing they are too overpower even if made a raid item!!!)

All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.

    Voted yes.

I can have fun both with pve and pvp, but pvp is not a needed feature to have fun, and pve is not a needed feature to have fun.

When i start a game i try to get it as it is and not as i would it should be.

    Voted Yes.

I play CS:S and Battlefield for PvP. I don't see any point in MMO PvP unless the game is built around it (like EVE for example)

I've enjoyed PvP in various games but I would play a PvE MMO if it were good enough.  At the moment I'm bored with games I've played in the past and I haven't found anything to keep my interest for very long, with or without PvP.

  • jadan2000jadan2000 Member UncommonPosts: 508

definately. my first mmo, ffxi, solidified my views on that. PVE players are a different type of player from pvp. The pve atmosphere is alot more mature from what i have seen.

For those who want to try out such a game- either play FFXI (I don't suggest this however), or wait for FFXIV to come out.

No PvP means much better PvE experience altogether- if you like co-operative gameplay, there's no better thing than all out PvE game!

Whether it has PvP or not isn't such a huge issue, what is important is having PvP that is balanced, has a reason to be there & isn't 1 dimensional.

The quality of a game is more important than any 1 single feature, MMO's need to be complicated & broad in their scope in order to appeal to the audience they are aiming at.

Personally I think PvP is a whole metric ton harder to develop well & get right & it has not ever been done in a way that ties into the gameworld seamlessly & yet doesn't negatively impact those who don't want it, I have ideas on how that could be done but I doubt there is technology to allow for it.

Ideally there should be no PvE & PvP style games, an MMO should allow for both styles of game to work & exist together in the same game under specific conditions, PvP hasn't been intelligently interwoven within a game yet in my view, & won't be for years.

I abhor pvp in fantasy mmo settings. Just a personal preference i suppose.

When i feel like pvping i load up the new cod and break out my machine gun. mmmmmmmmmmmmm it feels good!!

So should we see more of these games that are a mess, trying to implement other features to the game well? I'd much rather see a PvE only game, until a correct way to implement PvP has been found. No need for PvP to ruin the PvE side of the game if it can't be implemented correctly.

    I voted yes.

I don't pvp in mmo's all that often to begin with.  I prefer fps and rts for that, where the playing level is even.  FPS are easy to jump in and out of and rts I typically play with friends so the commitment to build up isn't wasted on someone who will likely be a poor sport.

In mmo's, the main purpose of play is pve, and, if teaming, to play through the story content and be heroes (or villains if it calls for it.)  PvP doesn't often contribute that much to it other than sating the appetites of a few with virtual bloodlust.  The one real exception to this, in my experience, was Dark Age of Camelot's RVR which impacted globally impacted players' effectiveness as well as accessibility to certain areas (darkness falls).  So, I guess in the end, I have no interest in pvp in game where it is merely tacked onto it (e.g. City of Heroes pvp.)  As it stands, that's my attitude towards crafting too -- if it's a token feature thrown in without significant implications for the entire game, just skip it.
