I have been trying for a few months now to find a decent MMORPG that has a very fast paced and fluid pvp system.
I am currently playing allods online which is alright for PVE but seems that the way they have the combat system going that PVP will be alot of standing right next to each other and basically runescaping it out on each other.
Games that I found pvp to be fast paced and interesting were Knights Online and Risk Your Life.
I currently play wow, and I enjoy the pvp in that when it comes to battleground matches and open pvp. It's very fast paced and fluid and involves strategy and moving around and not just simple hack and slash, toe to toe type combat.
Anyone have any suggestions for games that are currently like this? I would prefer a rather new game so I can jump in and grind quickly to become competitive in a few months. Older games already have people max level with a ton of kills already on their belt and enjoy fresh starts.
I'm open to playing games that are in open beta or recently released.
Thank you all in advance.

Darkfall is your best bet, I would say. The PvP is definitely intense and skill requiring, but it's not fast paced in the same way as WoW is. In WoW you just wait half a minute to respawn and you are back to the action. In Darkfall you have to travel a lot and death penalty is much more noticeable. But when you get in a good siege, it's very chaotic and fast paced.
EVE is the other top PvP game, but it's the game of the patient. I find it fast paced though, much more than twitch games, for some reason. I have to work with my brain faster, rather than aiming with mouse. In that sense fast paced. Like real-time strategy games, where you have to make decisions fast and figure out the most efficient way.
Dragonica, while I don't know much about it, it has very fast combat. You might wanna watch some Youtube videos of that. I can't think of anything else. Perhaps Global Agenda?
Waiting on Xsyon & betaing stuff
you wont find any
the gaming companies dont dare to make pvp games these days and only tries to cater the casual players since thats the largest playerbase
casual players tend to buy the game, play a couple of months then leave which is perfect for the gamedevelopers
there havent been a top notch pvp mmo since daoc
yep, waiting for global agenda for the time being. Hopefully it delivers.
Right now I'm just playing a MMOFPS called Mercenary Wars to get my fast action fix.
I don't mind running back a bit, but I always found penalties for pvp pretty ridiculous and undeserving. I am also waiting to see if Mortal Online becomes for polished in the next few months.
This is pretty much the case. Every time someone starts a thread asking for suggestions on what pvp games to play, people ALWAYS respond with EVE and Darkfall. Crappy old WAR also usually gets a mention too, not because its good but because there isnt much else around. There are of course plenty of pve games with optional pvp gameplay added as a sidedish but none of them are particularly good. Failing that people just tell you to go and play an fps even if its not what you are after.
Fortunately though Global Agenda recently got added to the pvp pile which doesnt seem to be a bad game and there are other games with a pvp focus in the pipeline. About bloody time! DAoC had very good pvp for its time and I always thought it was strange that more mmos didnt follow in its footsteps. It always struck me as a bit odd that so many mmos have taken the single player style approach of pitting the players against the computer. Seems like a waste of the internets potential to me.
if you want a good PvP game, try a shooter. if you want a good MMORPG PvP game, try another planet.
True. If the OP is a "safe-zone" heavy player such as some that have poster that likes 3rd person, lobby-system, Team Fortress 2 type shooters, where the world isnt a persistent, open, mmorpg environment, the OP will like Global Agenda.
Otherwise, if the OP is the type that can appreciate more open-world, massively multiplayer, player-centric and driven, skill-centric achievement mmorpgs, the 2 best that center on the player as the central role for all or most facets of game-play are Darkfall and EVE.

I was under the impression that the AvA portion of the game was all about players fighting over and taking control of sections of a larger world map, with the option to build things in each sector which remained there (and had an effect on other sections of the map) until other players destroyed them. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the stuff I read about the game but that sounds pretty persistent to me.
I dont really know what you mean by a "safe zone" heavy player though.

Talking of "safe zones" isnt a large portion of EVE's gameworld comprised of zones (which cuts back on the "open world" aspect) in which players are safe from other players. I thought pvp was also only allowed in certain areas of the game.
I'm not sure why an open-world game = skill-centric achievements (thats a very odd description by the way) while a game divided into instances does not. Why does one type of game require more player skill than another?
I agree though that open-world games rely more on the players for interesting and exciting things to happen.......which is precisely why multiplayer games that are divided into sections and have more controlled and focused gameplay tend to be more fun to play (open to personal opinion of course). They eliminate the more boring aspects of mmos. Running around a big empty landscape looking for something to do might be more realistic but it certainly isnt a great deal of fun (again open to personal opinion). Some times people want to just log into a game and start having fun straight away, rather than spending hours of their time looking for the entertainment and hoping that something decent happens before bed time.
Also if a multiplayer game takes place in a more controlled and restricted environment then it can help to promote fair and balanced gameplay. Granted fair & balanced does not really = realistic but then realistic does not always = fun. One thing I do like about Global Agendas instanced team battles is that it eliminates the possibility of zerg battles (some like this, some dont) and yet still allows players to make strategic decisions and form into squads and make cordinated attacks on bases. Thats based on what I read anyway. For all I know it might actually be rubbish lol
Regardless of whether one type of game is set in a big open game world and another takes place in instanced areas that are all part of a larger game map that can change, any type of mmo that allows players to fully interact with and effect/change the game for each other is a step in the right direction in my opinion. I dont care if an mmo takes place in an open world or an instanced one as long as its fun to play.
PvE games with a PvP side offering are fine but it would be nice to have more options to choose from if I wanted to play a PvP focused mmo. We currently still dont have that but it does seem to be getting a bit better.
Fallen Earth. Nuff said. All sorts of crazy zoning involved in PvP. Should be just to your liking.
It's open-world and everything. Missions aren't required at all. Crafting could be, or you could support a poor soul that devoted himself to crafting only to find out that nothing ever breaks.
Check out the MUD I'm making!
You could try out Regnum Online. This is a Realm vs Realm pvp f2p game from an indie studio. The graphics are alright, but the gameplay is excellent. Combat takes place in a territory called the war zone where three realms fight over objectives.
Level cap is 50, but you can be effective in the war zone at level 30+. Leveling up is through quests until about level 35, then grinding (at level 45 the grind can get bad, but nothing like Korean games etc.).
The only MMO with good fast paced PvP right now is Guildwars. It is rather old but grinding is minimum in it, it still have a lot more player compared to most MMOs. It have no monthly fees or cash-shop.
Upcoming Guildwars 2 will be great but until then it is the only fast paced PvP game I can recommend. If you like FPS styled combat you can also have a look on Darkfall.
