EQ II is definitely a solid game... now. Just be glad you didn't play at release. In my opinion EQ II became a decent game after about 1.5 years. It took SOE that long to remove all the "idiotic" features that the game released with. Features like Group Debt, Must be online to sell from your store, Locked encounters where if you did 99.9% of the damage to a mob and someone came along and threw a heal on you, you got NO XP for the kill. Grouped mobs where you must kill all the mobs in the group before you got any XP...kill 3 mobs, leave the 4th at 1% health and run away, no XP for you! Zones that were not accessable until you did teadious quests. And many other stupidities--yeah, I got no grudge or anything about all that
I just subscribed today after playing the 14 day trial and I'm having a great time. The crafting is just awesome!
I just wish I could figure out how to download the full game so I wouldnt have to stream the whole thing.

I'm gathering resources like heck. How do you craft? I have yet to figure that out.
Been awhile sinc eive been on, so cant remember exaclty where or what theyre called, but theres basically underground areas which contain some NPCs that sell a few materials and recipe books, as well as all the tools (forges, desks, ovens, etc) for doing the actual crafting. I believe you can find it on the map or minimap somehow, if not, look for something that looks like a set of doubledoors leading down a stairway into the ground.

What you're gonna wanna do (as said above me) is to find in whatever city you're in the tradeskill instance...which looks like wooden cellar doors and zone you in to a two level zone. Depending on what you're crafting, you have to use the correct tool...woodworking table, tailoring station thing, forge, etc... just have the components, the recipes (bought from the guy next to the cellar doors outside the zone, or found) and the correct type of fuel.
EQII is awesome when it comes to crafting...if you sell on the market/auctionhouse, just set a fair price, set the economy back in to an enjoyable one.
EQ2 is good right now, it released really badly and still have a bad name since then but I havn't found something better yet.
They have upgraded the graphics and added multi-core support which makes the game look pretty nice (with exception for cloth and leather armor, they still look bad).
Hi Not sure if u found youre answer but download the "Station Launcher" from sonyonline. Then you will get the hole client and you wont get the long downloads when zoning. Regards Walder. ps make sure you pick the right language = UK English and not US English or you will get wrong servers if you play from EU.
I found my old desert of flames disk and let it patch over night. thanks for the reply.

I played EQ2 for many years and it has come a long long way. I will be resubing after a long break when I get the new x-pack in the mail All the other games I have played have never held there own to this game, gratzs on starting up OP.
Glad to hear you're liking it. I know I really enjoyed coming back in 2008 when they offered The Living Legacy. I'm looking forward to coming back again as soon as I get my new rig in the next few months, especially since the next GU will offer Halas as a new starting area.

basicly they are in all city
and its very well explained check alakazham eq2 they got the crafting info!
crafting is one of the top in my view its not mindless if you dont pay attention you might scrap a lot of mat
in most game you press start and go eat ,if you do that here.you might as well give your mat to a poor bloke lol!
