I usually enjoy casters the most, played a mage in WoW, BW in WAR, Sorc and Summoner in Aion, but my favorite caster class was my Runekeeper in LOTRO. I just loved the variety it had, I could nuke with direct damage with lightning (and remain almost completely mobile!) or go the DoT route with fire, preferred build for raids and longer fights, or on top of all that I could be a healer too. And the atunement system was a great mechanic to keep all those roles in check.
I loved my beastlord and bard in EQ1! No other classes in any other games could even come close to them. Especially my Vahshir bard. Song twist, kitting, buffing and some melee fun all into one. So much fun and take good skills to play one. Talk about unique class!, Both beastlord and bard are the best.
an Alchemist from EQOA, it was a caster type, they made potions they threw at mobs. they also wore leather and casted direct dmg and short range AoE nukes. was primarily an AoE class, could dish out more dmg than any other class just for the fact that throwing potions was considered melee type and you could chain cast nukes while you auto threw potions (potions being the bulk of thier dmg). due to an odd mechanic in the game where shooting a bow or throwing took 10% of your mana per throw made playing the class more difficult, wich made them a rarity. taht and the fact you had to stock up on potions before you went out there. they didn't take any ingreadients you basicly just conjoured them.
they drank poisons to regen mana and the drink had a HUGE mana tick like from empty to full in maybe 3 seconds. but if not careful you could kill yourself because they blew through mana so fast the dmg from the drinks could add up and get exp debt from it. since throwing pots was a % based factor even tho they was a caster you'd try for as low of mana as possible so your drinks filled for more of a % per tick. and would shoot for as high of a natural health regen as possible.they had "Master Classes" in teh game where you specialize your class to a certain way and also changed your class. the 2 master classes ALcs could be was "Transmuter" wich gave 2 specialized abilities one was a potion you threw at a mob and turned them into a rat wich was a massive debuff, the debuff reduced the mobs total HP,dex, agi and forget what else. the other transmuter ability was a tradable pill wich was a buff that turned you into an ogre inc HP,str, dex agi i think. the other master class was "Metabolist" they had a VERY nice passive buff gave HP,natural hp regen, poison resist and disease resist, other ability was a pill you could spam that was a Heal, hit for 650x2 when you first take it then 650 HoT.
they also made tradable cure potions for pioson or disease, made tradable arcane resistance potions as well, and breath under water potions. also had snares that once specced for it in the mastery tree would also tick for dmg with it on. also had an ability in the mastery tree that made a gem that would give 3000 hp and mana to a target but had an hour recast on it and the gem had 3 charges. also in the mastery tree they could sumon a clockwork companion that i believe buffed the alc forget what but if the alc blew the pet up it gave the entire gorup a big chunk of mana regen.
was a very backwards class but made them unique and fun to play.
Well, lets see... Favourite class ever? RANGER in DDO. Or wizard, but lets start with Ranger...
First of all, my Ranger serves as an melee combatant in the party, wielding two longswords. Very offensive, lots of fast attacks and quite high armour, weaker than barbarians and paladins and such, but still able to take more than a few blows if someone gets through my defense.
Very high dexterity, high strenght and medium wisdom and then the only downside; weak constitution.
Arrows + ray-type spells (one's which fire like arrows, or fireballs etc) can be dodged manually with tumbling (read: Rolling to the side)
In melee I tend to take defensive action from mobs which logically you don't want to get hit by (Giants etc. I always, always dodge out of the way before leaping back into combat)
When not engaging in melee, I can heal quite well with wands + ranger spells, though this drains my spell points instantly and I require a cleric to recharge them back to me if possible.
High spot, listen and search skills... Can spot traps without any trouble if rogue isn't in the front.
But yeah, when a warrior with a shield and sword or a two handed weapon attacks four times, I've thrown eight attacks with those two swords. Then race; Elf has good and bad sides. Higher dex, weaker constitution.
Favoured enemies: Undead, Giants, Aberrations
My ranger requires a lot of active maneuvering in combat, and I only have ONE skill in quickbar what I use in addition to "default" attacks, that skill is Trip, and I use it every 30 seconds. Logically, this gives me a chance to trip any and all mobs which make sense (No, you can't trip a ghost, but humanoids tend to fall quite easily when we count in the high strenght from my ranger.)
Edit: Forgot to add in, My Ranger can protect people from elements, increase armour of friendlies by granting them barkskin and then I always have one buff on myself; Ram's Might which gives me increased strenght. Then there's different heal spells, but I only keep one with me and use that as emergency heal (Quite handy when the main healer falls and you have to get him up fast. Or when main healer is healing someone, and another char gets wounded, then I throw a heal almost by reflex if it is needed.)
What about an usual mmorpg, like those wow's and warhammer onlines etc. Well, in WAR I loved the high elven Swordmaster most. The lore behind the character class is just awesome, the armours are nicely designed and then it at least had the combo system (1,2,3,4, if 4 fails 6, if 4 succeeds 5, if fighting a melee 7 after 3, if we want more defense 8 after 3... Yeah, it got boring, like all those mmorpgs did for me, but that's how it worked.)
I prefer the "archer" or whatever equivalent there is, as long as it's not some gender locked female archer class that is basically naked *cough* many asian F2Ps *cough*. Sometimes there's the pet like in Guild Wars or World of Warcraft, but I personally dislike them, I prefer a stronger archer (because adding a pet means a lot of balancing attention) than being pet-dependent. Anyway, the way Guild Wars had interruption mechanics felt great (and I hope to have that sort of gameplay again in GW2 - timing interrupts, paying attention at all targets, trying to calculate when the foe will be casting). I believe all MMOs should have that kind of depth in skill casting/interrupting. In Aion there's the kiting challenge against enemies, and the knockbacks are cool. In World of Warcraft you have the DPS machine (oh wait, almost any class can do that), but tracking and traps are certainly very welcome along with your personal tank for PvE.
I enjoyed every class in FFXI,but two classes needed a little more love ,the DarkKnight and the Paladin.
To show how brilliant Square Enix is ,they covered pretty much every aspect.
The Archer was great,i did not agree with the nerf but it was great. The nerf was implemented to keep RNG from melee and building tp faster, they seem o forget that a rngr in close can be quickly killed,i know i died a lot.In FFXI the Ranger could be VERY powerful and sill had some cool abilities to compliment his power.Plus of course the added sub class system gave it even more diversity.RNGR also had tracking.
Interuption mechanics were also built into FFXI,from stuns,to sleeps,to plain old spell casting interruption via any attack. The dleay timing of weapons in FFXI combat also gave you that feel for timing spells and attacks.
Kiting was a VERY skilled part of FFXI,pretty much a Redmage specialty but it was possible on other classes.
IN FFXI you were not JUST a DPS,you had to THINK and balance your player depending on your group. If you did not have accuracy food and no enfeebels or dispels, then you would need to sacrifice dps for more accuracy, after all the most amazing dps is useless if you are missing all the time.
YEP EVERY class in FFXI utilized some skill and fun to play it,except maybe Warrior,it was maybe the simplest as most everyone went with duo mode axe main, all out dps gear.Even the Monk had some cool ideas that gave it some fun diversity,it actually had more going than the Warrior. However even the warrior could be loaded to be a decent Ranger or Tank type class, and FFXI's ability to macro change gear and weapons, made for some real diversity in every class.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
For me the it's the Anti-paladin = Shadow Knight, Death Knight, Blood Knight, Evil Paladin, Black Guard, Warrior Necros. Does matter what you call it, it's ususally the class i look for first and gravitate to it.
I play it for the Tank aspect. I play it for the dots, drains, and leeching. I play it for the melee/armor competency. I play for the undead pets accompany it. I play for the lore that usally comes: consumed with hate, revenge, seeking underworld power, rage, anger for strength.
This is usually a very hard class for games to get right, so when it isnt present i usually go towards a Necro-type. Something with the dots, drains and pets. In EQ i have a SK. In WoW i played a Warlock up to the DK release, but it wasn't all i was looking for.
For me it depends on the game, the art design and how the class feels.
I would normally say I go for mages that can blow things up. However, similiar classes in other games have left me flat and I found that I gravitated toward melee classes.
Lineage 2: Spellhowler with my Destroyer Sub. I say sub because I could never get into the orc destroyer but my dark elf swinging a huge battle blade really did it for me.
Guild Wars. Loved my Necro hands down. Mesmer too which was my main but I found that i kept going to my necro.
LOTRO; Elf Guardian. just love how it plays and its survivability
Aion. My sorcerer.
Warhammer. Love my Swordmaster. The look, how it fights.
EQ 2. I just love the Shadow Knight Class in that game.
Vanguard: Dark Knight
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
As said before it really depends on the game. I'll just limit mine to one though.
My ranger in Guild Wars is great. I love the versatility of the class (to be honest, almost all of the classes in that game had lots of versatility). I could have an interrupt build, a degen build, an aoe build, a trap build, a pet build, a melee scythe build, and so much more on that class. I thought the Mesmer was the most unique class I've seen in a game but I could never get into playing it.
While I've put more time into my WOW Shaman than any other character, I think my GW Mesmer was probably my favorite class. I enjoyed the theme of control, interrupts, and the non-typical way it dealt damage.

the hunter from wow and the summoner from hgl (yes that hgl) because you get to effectively be in two places at once (or more if you are a summoner) and use guns
Its sort of a dark paladin, your a tanker, sword/mace and shield, using plate armor, instead of healing your drain life, stunign with stun shield, and to finish off your have a summon, a Dark Panther who gives a great damage while ou tank mobs, one of the funnies classes i have played.
Lots of fun played with this one, both in PVE as PVP.
now: GW2 (11 80s). Dark Souls 2. future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord. "Bro, do your even fractal?" Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
Two-way tie, for me. It's either Creature Handler from Star Wars: Galaxies, or a Granter/Fire Tanker from City of Heroes.
Creature Handler was the best pet class I'd ever played, especially when combined with Ranger. I used to track down creatures I was interested in, find nests with babies in them, sneak up to the nest (being very careful not to get detected by the adults), tame the baby, then get out of there. I loved finding really uncommon creatures, and I loved training mounts that nobody else used because they weren't "tough enough." It was just an all-around good time.
The Granite/Fire Tanker from City of Heroes, at least with the skills I chose to use, was huge fun. It wasn't that great on the way to the top, but once I was there, it was non-stop mayhem. Granite makes you darned near invulnerable to everything, but it makes you as slow as molasses in January. I used to find a group of 10 or more mobs standing close to one another, put Granite up (encasing myself in stone), then teleport right into the middle of them. As soon as I materialized, I'd unleash all of my fire area attacks in what looked like an explosion. I called it "telebombing," and it was supremely satisfying.
I'd have to definitely say Healer in DAoC because it combined my two favorite roles, healer and crowd control. I thought it was very different from any class I had ever played and it was the only class I took all the way to 50.
Followed closely behind would be the Elven Oracle in L2.

Druid in Shadowbane
they'e all the same, but that alchemist sounds interesting and AC2 had some original rather than rehashed DnD classes.

Guild Wars 2 is my religion
Probably the GW mesmer
I also liked the captain from LotRO
paladin on WoW. best tank class i've seen so far. i love tanking btw >>.
My Bear Shaman in Age of Conan.
It combined wild barbarism, two handed hammers, bears and healing - all of my favourite things - in its style.
Combined with the ability to play a healer that was genuinely good a melee combat makes it the perfect class for me.
Guild Wars Dervish. Robes + Scythes + High Damage = General Awesomeness.

Enchanters from EQ ftw. This was so good no game dared repeat it.
After that, masterminds from COX. But thats more due to the pets being very cool.
i like being whatever i want whenever i want.
