Yeah I agree, by the time they understand they need to fix a trial to make the subs go up this game will be outdated and people already moved on to more intressting games.
this isn't a wow clone. IE, not a game that you play for a month and move on to another....Darkfall grabs you and holds on. You realise after the first month everything that you have been missing in the recent crop of crap MMORPGs, and wonder why you didn't realise it sooner.

^^ Wow, you really want to be with those people.
Crap MMORPGs? Oh, that's right.. the ones with literally 100x the subscription number of Darkfall. I'd be incredibly surprised if Darkfall ever bypassed the 10k mark on subs. Really.
When asian MMORPG grinds destroy your subscription base, then that speak volumes about the quality of THIS crap MMORPG.
From what I've read on Google, a Trial was planned on Jan. 22nd. Well, that day has come and gone. I admit, FFA PVP just sounds retarded, but I'd be willing to give anything a try. As they say, you never know until you try! Though, the community is pretty adamant about their game. Refusing to let anyone who has any distaste for PvP into their game. They rabidly patrol it's borders, looking to attack at wary travelers.
I always thought fresh blood in a game was a good thing, but I guess dogs will be dogs.
Yup.
Funny, that those who are arguing against a trial don't mention that part.
DarkFall's Devs thought a Trial was a good idea for DarkFall for 6-8 years (as well as ALL it's fans). They haven't said one way or the other since release... yet some fans claim it's a bad idea.

Sub numbers and "popularity" do not indicate quality. Take Budweiser and McDonald's as examples of pure crap that sells.
AV is making a profit, we're having fun, and personally I don't give a flying fuck if DF gets a million subs, or stays at it's cozy level, as long as the game continues to exist.
Some of you seem to have the attitude that DF needs to prove something to you....but it doesn't. It's meant for people who enjoy FFA PVP sandbox gaming. Those people will buy the game if they want to play it. Those who don't.....won't....and that's fine. We didn't want to hear you cry any way.

Hehe, yeah, we're playing and they aren't. They should blame themselves. Personally I don't need a trial. And it looks like this game has more noobs than it should have anyway. I can't find enough mines - those bastards have emptied them all!

Cairn is fucking COVERED with them....I mean it's nuts how much metal is down here.
Of course, it's also covered in mobs with PHAT loot, and good PVP.

I guess they know better than the Devs.
Fans will claim anything that makes DF look better. Really its just oblivion and shadowbanes deformed crack baby.
Well I personally couldn't wait any longer for a free trial, I was going insane trying to decide if buying it was the right decision or not. But I did it...it's done, and admittedly I'm a bit scared. I now have to grow a new set of balls. *faint*
Im not willing to risk $50 on a questionable MMO. Thats just the way it is. Devs of all MMOs just need to accept that their customers want to try before they buy. If they want money, theyll do it. If the dont, they wont. Till then I have other MMOs where my money will go.
After having read the 213284 thread on free trials (exaggerated of course), a thought occurred to me; AV has never really done things "by the book" or at least, in a manner that many people would have expected. Why not do trials differently too? Take a page from their "release". X number of people could buy the game then a while later Y more people could buy it etc, etc. So, why not do the same with trials, but also tie it to a buddy system?
This would address the excellent point made earlier about the potential server load issues while allowing loyal players to bring in people who are presumably friends of theirs that might not be comfortable spending money without trying the game out first.
Not sure how they would determine the buddy system, but I could imagine something like everyone can invite one buddy the first time around. This would give them idea of acceptance rate and would, at most, double the server population which, while significant, might still be manageable.
Relating to the method of trial, I don't think a trial island approach would do the game justice and I don't think that, with a referral program, it would be required.
Anyway, it's all just academic discussion at this point, but some good ideas floating around.

Absolutely.
Except there are no other MMOs where my money will go. In fact that's related to the very reason I won't get Darkfall without trying it: I've been burned too many times in the past to take the chance.
Contrary to what some of you believe, I'm telling you right now that there's no such thing as "growing into" an MMO. You either like the concept right off the bat and it keeps you playing, or you don't like the concept, you stick around for a bit hoping you will, then you quit out of boredom.
So a 10-Day trial would be the best way to get fence-sitters and cynical MMO vets like me (and I'm a UO and Shadowbane alumni) to take the plunge. The game's got to feel good to me. It's got to feel right.
A typical $50 game is a game. An MMO is a hobby, an investment. I don't buy a big train set until I play around with some exhibits and smaller ones.
For those of you waiting for a trial, consider this.
First, I jumped in without a trial and it's the best game I've played since SWG pre-cu.
Second, if you wait for a free trial you're going to have a LOT of competition for mobs and resources once the trial starts.
So why not take a chance? If you've done the research and think it's your style of game, why not get a head start before the trial? Trust me, you WANT to get a head start in this game and will wish you had if you wait!

Just to play Devils advocate here : I got tired of waiting for a trial as well, not only popped down 50 for myself, but also for my brother. We both love the game , we both think the game has a tremendous amount of potential ... but we both stopped playing after 3 weeks.
The PvE grind is intense : The skilling up isn't as horrid as people make it out to be, the intense part comes in when you find out your limited to a small section of "beginer" mobs for literally a month or two. Grinding is fine, just give me the opportunity to grind more than the same 5-6 mob types. In addition to this the PvE AI is horrid , some people hail it as the second coming.... but in truth all the mobs do is run around with their heads cut off.... there is none of this " The mobs actually sneak up on you, coordinate attacks, and retreats" nonsense. The people who spout the previous are seeing what they want to see, the AI simply does erratic things from time to time, and when they are low life.. run off at warp speed. There are also a ton of "higher skill level" players farming bugged mobs for huge gains... glitching into walls.. etc etc.
The PvP is wonderful .... it takes awhile to get into it, to learn the intricacies but it really is a good system. Is it clunky? Yeah.. its clunky as hell ... but it still requires total player skill. The world is gorgeous, tons to see .... if there was a point other than just seeing it.
Like I said .. a ton of potential, they just need a few more months of working things out and I might come back and stay. Hold out for the free trial folks ... Adventurine is a business, they are fools if they don't pursue new customers.

I mean, you yourself said you were somehow "limited" to n00b spawns, right? As for the "farming bugged mobs for huge gains", I havn't seen this in months. If you do, report the fuckers. Sounds like you guys shoulda got into a decent clan away from n00b lands, and seen a bit more of the game.
I'm not going to claim the game is perfect....but it's still the best thing out right now as far as FFA PVP Sandbox gameplay.

For the most part I do not agree:
1. if you play any MMO for lets say a max of 80 hours and you still do not like the game then you really should move on. So at most that is two months of play. You get one month free so that is at most an extra $17 dollars with tax.
2. try treating a friend to dinner and a few drinks at the bar for ONE NIGHT and you will find you have spent as much or more. outside of counting match sticks or watching TV MMO gaming must be one of the cheapest hobbies in the history of mankind.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
- okay okay... read some of this content replies here and i agree on a trial would be nice... mostly cause of the 50£ is a lot of money if your not sure like wether or not its worth that much...
- on the other hand everyone talks about a 7-10-14 day trial fair enought there... the biggest con is still the commitment and the fear of hacking/misuse of the game, and all is talking about a free trial ??
I suggest it be a payed trial ? like 14 days for 5£ ? it will at least take off some of thouse wanting to abuse the it all at some extend and i woud gladly pay a little to just have a try... it looks damn awsome but i fear of how the game really is for ME.
Lets be honest... we dont give a damn about others oppinions when it all gets down to buttom line its your own decision that counts. So my honest opinion would be nice to have a little less payed trial maybe ?? if not free then at least that ? This way i could find out i wanted the game after all and leave with just a minor payment instead of 50£ for something that just wasnt me after all ???

1. I havent read much of the posts but I really doubt that a $50 barrier is going to decrease or increase the amount of hackers into the game to be completely honest. Most MMO players are around the age of 34 from what I have read and in that age bracket $50 really isnt such a high price you have to consider a second mortage.
2. To be completely frank AV would offer a free trail if they needed to, the fact that they havent pretty much suggests that they do not need or want to right now. I think that should answer any question about real popularity of this game based on the expectations of the developers which was to always keep it a nitch game.

well they might want to consider doing something because Earthrise is coming soon and its pretty much the same as far as politics go "ffa pvp with full loot" and extensive crafting system just in a non fantasy futuristic environment so I can can see a little competition for subscribers to this little niche of the mmo world

1. Anyone who has much experience with games should know that a game is not a game until its actually out. What is on paper doesn’t stand for much. Mortal Online is a perfect example of people getting excited about what was on paper but once they experienced the code it was very different.
2. Although FFA PvP seems to be what everyone mentions about Darkfall and what I commonly see forgotten is the entire empire building aspect of the game. We are talking major sieges with ships, warhulks, cannons, politics etc. Why people over look that stuff is beyond me.
p.s I know of a few DF players who came back from Mortal Online beta very disapointed

This. There is so much to DF other than just ganking and looting. A lot of people can't see past it though.
As for Earthrise......yeah, more games in this vein are a good thing. BUT.....I think I remember hearing something shitty about a slow combat system?? I'll keep an eye on it, anyway.

In fallout can a clan build a city and ships and have other clans bring 100's of people in to take it over?

Has a Fallout MMO been released yet? I'd say it's a hard guess as to how it will roll out until they design and flesh it out fully.
As to Fallout world (not Fallout offline by Bethesda) itself, it has the ability to have amazing PvP. Limited useable world resources, little clean water, radiated food and water, scavenging, and looting salvage. It has a lot of potential. Player-made cities would fit into the lore nicely. Build one next to some clean water (for example), and another faction will likely want the resources. It would be fighting for more than just to own the city, but whatever resources are there. Building weapons, vehicles, for good siege warfare would be very doable in the lore of Fallout.
Everything that is built is from scrounging up resources and cobbling something together, while fighting to maintain your control and/or use of the resources. Man it has some potential and that would be some sweet PvP mixed with crafting if done right.

so you mean to say the answer is no.
What people seem to not understand is that the city seige system of darkfall was a major bullet point feature for the game years before it was released. I am 99% confident that if a game on paper had major plans of doing something similar they would have mentioned it by now.
Thanks you answer is no

I might be mistaken, but I think your question would have been better directed at Earthrise. I don't think many details at all have been provided for the Fallout MMO (except the bits about Mastheads involvement). As I understand it, Earthrise is the more imminent release whereas the Fallout MMO or V13 (whatever it is actually referred to as) doesn't have a date due to some litigation over the license among other things. There is probably someone much closer to the details that could elaborate though.

Enough said.
Yup.
Funny, that those who are arguing against a trial don't mention that part.
DarkFall's Devs thought a Trial was a good idea for DarkFall for 6-8 years (as well as ALL it's fans). They haven't said one way or the other since release... yet some fans claim it's a bad idea.
I guess they know better than the Devs.
this isn't a wow clone. IE, not a game that you play for a month and move on to another....Darkfall grabs you and holds on. You realise after the first month everything that you have been missing in the recent crop of crap MMORPGs, and wonder why you didn't realise it sooner.
The more you play, the better it gets. You don't play this one half asleep, yawning your way from one solo quest to another....you play wide awake, on the edge of your seat.

Yup.

"Censorship is never over for those who have experienced it. It is a brand on the imagination that affects the individual who has suffered it, forever." - Noam Chomsky
Sounds like you guys shoulda got into a decent clan away from n00b lands, and seen a bit more of the game.
I'm not going to claim the game is perfect....but it's still the best thing out right now as far as FFA PVP Sandbox gameplay.
Absolutely.

Well was just my thought on the topic....

Ok let me put it more directly then
In fallout can a clan build a city and ships and have other clans bring 100's of people in to take it over?
sweet jesus!
