Thinking of comming back... few questions.

I played LOTR when it first released.  I remember liking it, especially the book quests that give you bonus stats.  For some reason or another I left.  It might have been because I was still heavily playing either WoW or FFXI.

I'm thinking of coming back for the next 4-7 months until FFXIV is released.  Will it be possible to level a character to max level in that time period and experience much of the game, including the expansions?  I threw away the box and will likely get the digital copy of the game.  I will have to start playing from scratch.

I remember enjoying the combat and many aspects of the game....

My best estimate for leveling 1 to 65 is 200-250 hours, depending on how much you explore, if you do crafting, and how much rested XP you play with.  So you can work out the math on whether or not you can make it in 4-7 months based on how much you play :)

Hmm... So 3 hours a day (21 hours a week), will be around ~3 months.....

    that's not too bad.....

But with wife and son, and a career.. it will be difficult to play 3 hours a day.   But then again, if I'm enjoying the game at any level and there are enough people who are also playing 1 - 65.... it doesn't matter if I reach end game.

But, is there enough content and "fun factor" from 1 - 65, or is the game best enjoyed at 65+?

Having a family is quite usual in the game, which is one of the best aspects of the game.

There is more than enough content to level from 1 to 65 on completely separate paths (except for a short period aroundlevels 10 to 15 that for some reason has to be done in Breeland). In my experience there are more than enough people around for small fellowship quests.

On my (European)  server, there are also many roleplayers who are having level-independent fun playing music, telliing stories and riddles. Those characters will never reach the end game...

End level content is like many other games: plenty to do. The main difference with some other games is that the raids and instances are generally somewhat more casual-friendly. There are also quite a number of instances that can be completed by normal players in (far) less than an hour. There is some gear-gated raid content, but it isn't really hard to obtain the required armor pieces, even for casual players (it can be done in 3-man and 6-man instances). It's not like you have to grind the same tier of raid instances over and over again to be able to proceed to the next tier, etcetera.

In other words: yes, I think it might work!

Didn't want to make my own thread about this, so I will post here. Got a few questions aswell.

Last time I played was just before Siege of Mirkwood was released. I had a level 57 warden, and an alt minstrel (which I would love to level to the maximum).

So, I know basically all the quests from 1-50, as I have leveled other characters aswell. How about skirmishes? Are they avalaible even if I dont own SoM. Ive heard that they are a good way to level (at least a warden), and can get alot of XP in an hour, just by farming them.

Also, have they added anything to the 1-50 leveling on SoM release? I remember the Bree and Ered Luin change, but anything on e.g. North Downs?

Yea you can do a limited number of skimishes even if you dont have SoM (2/day?)

Lone lands had a revamp in SoM and North downs was supposed to get a revamp in Book 1 but it was postponed so there will be a revamp on the entire Volume 1 epic quests instead making the scaleable for 1-4 people.

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

I left LOTRO because Turbine made a Huge Nerf in order to release the Lorthrien map. Anyway, I like Turbine's games. But the game market has big changes as well, mmorpg lifetime is getting shorter and shorter. I'd like to see Turbine's next mmo instead of returning to LOTRO.

If you use all of your destiny points on the xp bonus, a few months might get you maxed out in time before you decide on whether to continue in the end game or go FFXIV.

Hmm, 4-7 months to grind in LOTRO to max level for what purpose? For fun lol? Sounds like a borefest to me. My suggestion is to find a good free online game (Guild Wars comes to mind) or buy afew new single player games and take a break from MMORPGs until the one your waiting for comes out.

    Just my 2cents :-)

My two cents...LOTRO is fun enough, and worth a try.  I've rediscovered it myself after trying over a year ago.  Dropped WoW since then, and Aion has turned out to disappoint due mostly to the owners.

I've tried a number of other MMOs (sorry to say but Guild Wars was one of the most disappointing for me), and this one seems to have enough extras to dig into for a good while.  I may still end up on FF when it comes out...and may end up on Star Wars even later, but I can only count on what is available now...and LOTRO seems to be it.

Really if you have any experience with lotro you can lvl 1-65 in a month at 3hr a day or less I just did it as a captain just quest grinding it out. 4-7 months is ridiculous for any game to take that long.... now if you want to be traited and all that nonsense or do all the books then yes but just getting to 65 shouldn’t take a month or maby alittle over that. but not 4-7 Crazyness.....

Hey guys. So I figured I'd reply to this instead of making a new thread given I'm thinking about "coming back" as well. I played the game at launch and got to like level 10, and ended up leaving since I couldn't convince any of my WoW friends to play this. It's obviously been awhile and I'm looking for an MMO for my girlfriend and me. She loves the Lord of the Rings books and this would clearly be something she's interested in. So here are some questions:

What do I need to purchase for her to play the game? Should I just start over again or reactivate my old account? What would I need to buy if I only have the original game, and is leveling as a pair a good idea? Is there some sort of recruit a friend?

    Thanks in advance!

Not positive about the recruit a friend thing , but i just went back with an all new account got to 10 and im playing the orcs now its still fun and somewhat populated I play on vilya but there is one other populated server. when its dead I just play the unlimited free WAR trial wich is only to lvl 10 but its pretty much always populated for pvp. But yeah if your just getting back into it and need someone to group with let me know I usually play creeps but I can grp and help out on either side. either way GL

-You need a game key.  I believe for $20 you can get all the expansions with a 30-day trial (might be $40 not sure).

Should I just start over again or reactivate my old account?

-I don't see why you shouldn't reactivate?  They often have returning player weekends where people with a prior sub can play for free so you can do that and get a feel for the game again before you commit.  For $20 I believe you can get both MoM and SoM, might be $40 though.

What would I need to buy if I only have the original game?

-If you want to get past 50 you'll need the expansions (see above).

Is leveling as a pair a good idea?

-More often than not you can do small fellowship quests with 2 people (especially at lower levels) and it makes those solo kill X mob and the like quests that much faster.

With the release of skirmishes (where you get a +25% XP bonus for kills), leveling has gotten very easy. In fact, many people think it's too easy to level, expecially the Mirkwood content (60-65). Personally, I have always felt it was just about right. It used to admittedly slow a bit at about level 30 until the high 40's (whenever you decide to go to Eregion, the area right before Moria).

I have been leveling a guardian with skirmishes (at 37 right now, have leveled him since 30, when you can start skirmishes, this way). This is insanely fast for the time put in. I play him just for the 3 skirmishes I have at the moment, maybe 40 minutes to an hour or so a day. If I was questing for 2 more hours a day I'd easily be near 50 or so, opening at least one more skirmish, I believe thievery and mischief is 45, Ford of Bruinen may be 50.

We have a couple in my Kin who have leveled from 1 to 65 since the second or third week of January. Granted, they play together about 4 or 5 hours a day, so I couldn't see more than 2 months or so at 3 hours a day, expeciallyt if you are just focued on leveling.

My last piece of advice is don't roll a first charactor as a Hobbit....the Shire is certainly a slower zone to level in than the Bree-lands or Erud Luin (Man and Elves/dwarves starting areas), with more non-combat type quests.

However, The Shire looks best, has the most fun quests, Hobbits are the only race exclusive to Middle-Earth and Hobbit RP outclasses all other RP (at least on Laurelin).
